Quick answer: VFS Global runs the Netherlands Schengen visa application centres in the UAE, in both Dubai and Abu Dhabi, and either can be used by UAE residents. You complete the online Schengen form on the Dutch government portal first, book an appointment on the VFS Global Netherlands UAE site, then attend in person with the documents. The decision is made by the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs, not by VFS, and the Dutch government publishes an average Schengen processing time of 25 calendar days, which is longer than many other countries.
The Dutch government’s NetherlandsWorldwide site confirms that you apply “at the VFS Global application centre in Abu Dhabi or Dubai”. Unlike Italy or Germany, no emirate jurisdiction is stated for the Netherlands, so the two centres are presented as alternatives. The Dubai centre sits in the VFS joint Schengen centre at Wafi Mall, Umm Hurair 2, which VFS moved to Phase 5 Horus, first floor, in March 2025. The Abu Dhabi centre is in the joint VFS centre at The Mall, World Trade Centre, Level B2, Khalifa Bin Zayed The 1st Street. Your confirmation letter gives the exact location for your booking, and you should follow that rather than older articles, because several still show the superseded Wafi Phase 2 address.
The same Dutch visa centres also accept short-stay applications for Luxembourg, which NetherlandsWorldwide states explicitly. Our own country page, Netherlands visa from Dubai, covers the document checklist, fees and refusal reasons; this guide focuses on the centre and the booking.

Confirm details on your booking confirmation.
NetherlandsWorldwide tells applicants to avoid unnecessary costs and to book the appointment themselves, and not to make an appointment through an intermediary. We think you should know that before reading any agency page, ours included. The appointment system is open to everyone, and an agency cannot create slots. Where a documentation service genuinely helps is in checking that your file is complete and consistent before you lodge it, which is the part that tends to go wrong, not in the booking itself.
Apply to the Netherlands if it is where you will spend the longest part of the trip, or the first country you enter if stays are equal. A short stop in Amsterdam on a longer trip somewhere else does not qualify. If you are also going to a non-Schengen country such as the UK or the US, VFS advises applying for that visa first. Our guide on which Schengen country has the fastest appointment explains why switching country for convenience goes badly.
Only a form completed online receives a unique code, according to VFS, and a form without that code can cause problems. Print it and keep the code visible.
Book one appointment per person. If you travel as a family or group, say so when booking. You can apply up to six months before the trip and at least 15 days before it, according to NetherlandsWorldwide.
The Dutch guidance says you must appear in person at your appointment, even if you are under 18, and VFS says this applies to babies and children too, with both parents’ consent for minors. Fingerprints and a live photograph are taken. Bring the checklist itself as well as the documents.
You track the application with the code on your receipt. The email that says the passport is ready does not say whether the visa was granted. Collect it at the centre or use courier return.
The Schengen visa fee is EUR 90 for adults under the common rules, and the VFS Netherlands page listed AED 385 for adults, AED 190 for children aged 6 to 12 and no fee under 6 on the day we checked. VFS lists a separate service charge, which was AED 101.33 on the same page. VFS states that the visa fee can only be paid in cash in dirhams or by credit card, and NetherlandsWorldwide says you pay the VFS service costs even if you are exempt from the visa fee. Amounts follow an exchange rate and change, so check at booking.
On processing, VFS gives a shorter figure than the Dutch government. We rely on NetherlandsWorldwide, which publishes an average of 25 calendar days for a Schengen visa, rising to as many as 45 when volumes are high, when more consideration is needed or when documents are requested. These are published averages, not a promise for your file. The practical lesson is to submit at least five to six weeks before departure, and earlier in summer.
Our guide to what happens at a VFS biometrics appointment in Dubai describes the visit in more detail.
If the Dubai calendar is full, the Abu Dhabi centre is the other official option for the Netherlands. Because the Dutch pages do not restrict you by emirate, a Dubai resident can look at both calendars. The trade-off is a drive of roughly 90 minutes each way, and the appointment letter will state the centre you booked. If you take a cancellation slot in Abu Dhabi, make sure you can reach it that day.
The Dutch authorities control how many slots are released; VFS operates the system. Start early and count backwards from your travel date, using the 25 day average as your starting point. Use the whole six month window, check at different times for cancellations, and keep your file ready. VFS has operated a waitlist for several countries in the UAE, and if the Netherlands booking page offers one when you book, our guide to how the VFS waitlist works explains how to use it. If you cannot find a date, what to do when no Schengen appointments are available goes through the options, and how far ahead to book sets out a timeline. A consulate may accept urgent, documented cases without an appointment, at its discretion.
You receive an official letter explaining the decision. VFS notes you have four weeks to object in writing. You can also object if the visa was granted but you disagree with its start date or validity. Read the reasons before you reapply, and see our Schengen documents checklist for the standard file.
We are not VFS or the Dutch Ministry, and we cannot promise an appointment or a decision. If you would like a second pair of eyes on your documents, or someone to watch the calendar while you work, see visa appointment booking in Dubai. Whatever you choose, never pay anyone who claims they can create a date.
