Get your visa photo size right
A wrongly sized or cropped photo is one of the most common avoidable reasons a visa application is rejected at submission. Each country has its own exact specification: Schengen consulates commonly ask for 35 x 45 mm, the US asks for a square photo that is 2 x 2 inches when printed, and a UK visitor visa photo is taken at the visa centre. The table below lists the official sizes. This free tool lets you upload any photo, frame it to the correct proportions, and download it at the right pixel size, ready to print. Your image is processed entirely in your browser and never uploaded anywhere.

Photo tips that pass
Use a plain light background, face the camera squarely with a neutral expression, ensure even lighting with no shadows, and avoid glasses glare or head coverings (except for religious reasons). Then build the rest of your file with the document checklist.
Frequently asked questions
Is my photo uploaded to a server?
No. Everything happens in your browser, your photo never leaves your device and nothing is stored.
Can I use a phone selfie?
You can crop one here, but for best results use a plain background and good lighting. Some consulates require a professional photo.
What size is a Schengen visa photo in the UAE?
Schengen consulates publish their own checklists. The German Missions in the UAE, for example, ask for two recent biometric photos of 35 x 45 mm (3.5 x 4.5 cm), not older than 6 months, with a white background.
What is the US visa photo size?
You upload a digital image with the online application. Printed photos are 2 x 2 inches (51 x 51 mm), with the head between 1 and 1 3/8 inches (22 to 35 mm), and eyeglasses are no longer allowed, according to the US Department of State.
Do I need a photo for a UK visa from Dubai?
Not a printed one for a Standard Visitor visa. GOV.UK says your fingerprints and photo are taken at your visa application centre appointment.
What size is a Japan visa photo in the UAE?
VFS Global’s Japan page for the UAE asks for one 45 x 35 mm colour photo with a plain background, taken no more than 6 months before you apply.
