Planning a trip to the United Kingdom from Dubai? From the historic streets of London and the stunning Scottish Highlands to the charming countryside of the Cotswolds and the vibrant culture of Manchester, the UK offers something for every traveller. Visa Doctor provides expert UK visa application support for UAE residents and helps you navigate the UKVI (UK Visas and Immigration) process with confidence from our Dubai office.
🇬🇧 In this guide:
Most UAE residents apply for a UK Standard Visitor visa online on GOV.UK, pay the £135 fee, then give fingerprints and a photo at the UK visa application centre run by VFS Global in Dubai or Abu Dhabi. GOV.UK publishes a standard of 3 weeks for a decision, counted from your appointment, and successful applicants now receive an eVisa instead of a sticker in the passport.

What you receive
Whether you need a visa depends on your passport, not your UAE residence. Emirati citizens do not need a visitor visa: they apply for an electronic travel authorisation (ETA). Many other nationalities living in the UAE need a Standard Visitor visa for tourism, family visits or business meetings. Check your passport on GOV.UK or in our guide to which nationalities need a UK visa.
Visa Doctor prepares and checks your file and books the appointment. The decision belongs to UKVI.
The UK visa application centres in the UAE are run by VFS Global, one in Dubai and one in Abu Dhabi. GOV.UK lists these addresses:
UK visas are not handled by TLScontact in the UAE. You choose the centre inside your online application, and you can only book an appointment once you have applied. At the appointment you prove your identity with your passport, give your fingerprints and a photo, and hand over your supporting documents.
To apply for a UK Standard Visitor Visa, the following documents are generally required:
A 6-month UK Standard Visitor visa costs £135. If you visit the UK often, you can apply for a long-term visitor visa instead. Each visit is still limited to 6 months.
Standard Visitor visa
Standard Visitor visa for medical reasons
2-year long-term Standard Visitor visa
5-year long-term Standard Visitor visa
10-year long-term Standard Visitor visa
UKVI may give you a shorter visa than the one you asked for, and the fee is not refunded if that happens or if the application is refused.
GOV.UK says you will usually get a decision in about 3 weeks, counted from when you have applied online, proved your identity and provided your documents. Where it is offered, the priority service costs £500 extra and usually gives a decision in about 5 working days, and super priority costs £1,000 extra and usually gives a decision by the end of the next working day. Neither service changes how your application is assessed, and the wait for an appointment comes on top. Our UK priority and super priority visa guide explains both services for applicants in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Our urgent UK visa guide explains when paying for speed makes sense.
Weak proof of funds, an unclear reason for the trip and documents that do not match each other are the most common reasons UK visitor applications run into trouble. A file that clearly shows your ties to the UAE and a realistic travel plan gives the caseworker nothing to query.
Since 1 July 2026, UKVI no longer puts a visa sticker in the passport of successful new applicants. You receive an eVisa, a digital record of your permission that you view in your UKVI account. A sticker visa you already hold stays valid until it expires.
Before you travel, sign in to your UKVI account and check that your details are correct and that the passport you will travel on is linked to it. Our UK eVisa guide explains the account step by step.
A UK visa appointment in Dubai or Abu Dhabi is a biometrics appointment at the VFS Global centre, booked only after you have submitted the online application on GOV.UK and paid the fee. There is no separate consulate interview for a normal visitor application.
If you cannot find a suitable slot, check both centres and look again regularly, because new appointments are added. A faster decision service shortens the decision, not the wait for an appointment. Our urgent UK visa guide explains priority and super priority, and our UK visit visa processing time page shows the official figures.
A first application carries more weight on the documents, because there is no UK travel history to lean on. Caseworkers look for three things: a clear reason for the trip, enough money to pay for it without strain, and a life in the UAE you will return to.
Previous travel to the UK, the US, Canada or the Schengen area helps, so include copies of old visas. Our UK visa documents and financial requirements and UK bank statement guides go into detail.
A refusal letter explains the reasons. Read UK visitor visa refusal reasons and how to reapply after a refusal.
Apply online for a Standard Visitor visa on GOV.UK, pay the £135 fee and book an appointment at VFS Global in Dubai or Abu Dhabi. Bring your passport and documents that show your funds, your ties to the UAE and your travel plans. GOV.UK publishes a standard of 3 weeks for a decision, counted from your appointment.
Submit your online application on GOV.UK first, then book a biometrics appointment at the VFS Global centre in Dubai (Wafi Mall) or Abu Dhabi (The Mall, World Trade Centre) through the link in your application. You cannot book before you have applied.
GOV.UK says you will usually get a decision in about 3 weeks once you have applied, attended your appointment and provided your documents. Where they are offered, priority (£500 extra) usually gives a decision in about 5 working days and super priority (£1,000 extra) by the end of the next working day. Allow extra time for the appointment itself. We recommend applying at least 4 to 6 weeks before your travel date.
Yes. The UK Standard Visitor Visa covers short-term business activities such as meetings and conferences, in addition to tourism, so most UAE-based business travellers do not need a separate business visa category.
Yes. A 10-year multiple entry Standard Visitor Visa is available and allows unlimited visits to the UK, each for up to 6 months. The fee is £1,128. UKVI may issue a shorter visa than the one you ask for, and the fee is not refunded if it does.
There is no official minimum amount, but UKVI looks for evidence that you can comfortably cover all your costs in the UK. The amount varies depending on your planned length of stay and accommodation arrangements.

Where is the UK visa application centre in Dubai?
The UK visa application centre in Dubai is run by VFS Global at Wafi Mall, 3rd Floor, Falcon, Phase 2, Umm Hurair 2. There is a second VFS Global centre in Abu Dhabi at The Mall, World Trade Centre. You book your appointment after you have completed your online application on GOV.UK.
Do UAE citizens need a UK visa?
No. Emirati citizens apply for a UK electronic travel authorisation (ETA), which costs £20, instead of a visitor visa. Other nationalities living in the UAE follow the rules for their own passport. See UK ETA or visa for GCC nationals.
Will I get a sticker in my passport?
Not if you applied successfully after 1 July 2026. You receive an eVisa, a digital record you view in your UKVI account, and you get your passport back at the appointment. A sticker visa you already hold stays valid until it expires. Our UK eVisa guide explains the account.
What happens if you cannot book my appointment in the agreed time?
If we agree in writing to book your appointment within a stated time frame and we do not secure it within that time, or the appointment is not made at all, we refund our service fee in full. The refund is tied to scheduling only. It never depends on the visa decision, which belongs to the embassy or consulate, and government and visa centre fees are paid to those bodies, not to us.
