Planning a trip to South Korea from Dubai or anywhere in the UAE? Visa Doctor prepares Korean visa applications for UAE residents from start to finish, including the part most people underestimate: getting an appointment at the Korean mission at all. Korea is a long-haul favourite out of the Emirates, with Seoul’s palaces and Myeongdong shopping, Busan’s beaches and film festival, the temples of Gyeongju and the volcanic coastline of Jeju all within a two-week itinerary. Whether you are travelling for tourism, business, a family visit or study, our Dubai-based consultants will tell you whether you need a K-ETA or a full visa, and prepare the documents the Consulate General in Dubai actually asks for.

Do You Need a South Korea Visa or a K-ETA?

There are two completely different routes into Korea, and which one applies to you depends on your passport, not on your UAE residence.

If you hold a passport from a country on Korea’s visa-waiver list, you do not need a visa for a short visit. UAE nationals travel visa-free for up to 90 days. What you do need is a K-ETA, Korea’s electronic travel authorisation, applied for online before you fly. Korea has temporarily exempted 22 countries from the K-ETA requirement through to the end of 2026, but the UAE is not one of them, so Emirati passport holders still need to apply.

If you hold a passport that is not on the waiver list, which covers the majority of UAE expatriates, including Indian, Pakistani, Filipino, Egyptian, Bangladeshi, Sri Lankan and Nigerian nationals, you need a real visa. For a short holiday that is the C-3-9 short-term tourist visa, applied for in person at the Korean mission in the UAE. A K-ETA is not an alternative to it.

South Korea Visa Key Details

  • 📌 Fee, single entry up to 90 days: AED 160

Types of South Korea Visas Available from the UAE

C-3-9 short-term tourist visa: the standard route for a UAE resident holidaying in Korea for up to 90 days. Single entry, self-sponsored, and the category most of our Dubai clients apply under.

C-3-4 short-term business visa: for meetings, negotiations, conferences and market visits. It needs an invitation letter from the Korean company and that company’s business registration certificate on top of the tourist document set.

C-3-2 short-term group tourism visa: for organised groups travelling on a fixed itinerary. Korea has waived the processing fee on this category for nationals of several Asian countries as part of its tourism push, though whether the waiver reaches applicants filing from the UAE rather than from home is worth confirming with the consulate.

Multiple-entry short-stay visa: issued at the mission’s discretion rather than on request, at AED 360, and reported to run for up to five years for applicants with a strong travel history. Be sceptical of any agency that promises one. There is no special five-year scheme for GCC residents; the multiple-entry visa Korea recently expanded on generous terms is for Chinese nationals.

Student visas (D-2 and D-4): for degree study and language courses respectively, issued once your Korean institution has obtained a certificate of admission or a visa issuance confirmation number.

Work visas (E series): employer-sponsored, arranged before travel through the Korean employer and immigration.

K-ETA: not a visa. It is a travel authorisation for people who already qualify for visa-free entry, and it must be approved before you board.

Where UAE Residents Apply for a South Korea Visa

Korea handles UAE applications through its own missions. There is no Korea Visa Application Centre in the Emirates, no VFS or BLS partner, and no accredited agency that can submit on your behalf, whatever a Dubai shopfront may advertise. You attend in person.

Consulate General of the Republic of Korea, Dubai covers Dubai and the northern emirates, including Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah. It sits at Villa 12, Street 29b, Jumeirah 2, off Al Wasl Road. The Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Abu Dhabi covers Abu Dhabi and Al Ain.

The appointment system is the real bottleneck, and it is the single thing most applicants get wrong. Tourist visa appointments are booked online through Korea’s overseas portal at g4k.go.kr, and slots are released in two bands: appointments for the 1st to the 15th of a month open on the 16th of the previous month at 8:30am, and appointments for the 16th to the end of the month open on the 1st of that month at 8:30am. Miss the release, and you are waiting a fortnight for the next one. Non-tourist categories are arranged by email with the consulate instead.

Two further practicalities. The fee is exact cash only, and your original passport is retained for the whole processing period, so do not plan other travel while your Korean application is open. The fee is not refunded if the visa is refused.

South Korea Visa Requirements from Dubai

The Consulate General in Dubai publishes its own list for the C-3-9 short-term tourist visa. It is stricter than most, and the details matter:

  • ✅ Application form completed as an e-form at visa.go.kr and printed out. A handwritten form is not the accepted route
  • ✅ Passport valid for at least six months from your travel date
  • ✅ Emirates ID, original and copy
  • ✅ UAE residence visa copy, valid at least six months from the date of application, marked no exception
  • ✅ Original bank statement covering the last three months, stamped by the bank, issued within the last two weeks. Statements printed from an app or online banking are not accepted
  • ✅ No Objection Letter from your UAE visa sponsor stating the purpose of the visit and your full name, passport number, nationality, position and salary, with authorised signatory details
  • ✅ Detailed day-by-day schedule of stay in Korea
  • ✅ Confirmed hotel bookings for the whole trip
  • ✅ Confirmed round-trip ticket

Additional Documents for Specific Categories

  • Nationals of 33 listed countries: copies of previous UAE visas proving the most recent two years of continuous UAE residency. The list includes India, Pakistan, the Philippines, Egypt, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Nigeria, Vietnam, Indonesia, China, Iran, Iraq and others. If you have been in the UAE for under two years and hold one of these passports, this is the requirement most likely to stop your application
  • Golden visa, partner visa and self-sponsored residents: not exempt from the NOC requirement. You must still submit a letter setting out the detailed purpose of the visit, and where an individual rather than a company is your sponsor, attach that sponsor’s passport copy
  • Business travellers (C-3-4): invitation letter from the Korean company and its business registration certificate, in addition to the tourist set
  • Students: certificate of admission from the Korean institution, or the visa issuance confirmation number obtained by the school

The consulate reserves the right to request further documents where it considers them necessary, which is why a file that anticipates the obvious follow-up questions is worth preparing properly.

How to Get a South Korea Tourist Visa from Dubai (Step-by-Step)

The Korean process rewards preparation and punishes improvisation. This is the order we run it in.

1
Contact Visa Doctor: Tell us your nationality, how long you have held UAE residence and your travel dates. That determines immediately whether you need a K-ETA, a C-3-9 visa, or nothing at all.
2
Check the Two-Year Residency Rule: If your passport is on Korea’s 33-country list, we establish first whether you can evidence two continuous years of UAE residence. There is no point booking an appointment before that question is answered.
3
Complete the Online Application Form: We prepare the e-form at Korea’s visa portal, print it and check it against your documents so that nothing in the form contradicts the paperwork behind it.
4
Secure the Appointment: We watch the release windows on the 1st and the 16th and book your slot the morning it opens. In practice this, not the adjudication, decides how soon you can travel.
5
Prepare the Document File: We arrange the NOC wording with your sponsor, order a correctly stamped bank statement inside the two-week window, and build the day-by-day itinerary, hotel bookings and return ticket into one consistent story.
6
Attend the Mission in Person: You attend on the confirmed date with the exact cash fee and your original passport. We brief you on what will be asked and what to hand over in which order.
7
Wait Out Processing: The consulate states seven calendar days from submission. Your passport stays with them, so no other travel can be planned during this period.
8
Collect and Prepare to Fly: Once the visa is issued you collect your passport. We then remind you to complete Korea’s electronic arrival card in the three days before you fly, which visa holders are not exempt from.

South Korea Visa Processing Time from the UAE

The Consulate General in Dubai states that visa processing takes seven calendar days from the date you submit. Some UAE reporting has put the practical figure closer to fourteen working days, and neither number is the one that governs your trip.

The binding constraint is the appointment. Slots are released only twice a month, on the 1st and the 16th at 8:30am, and they are taken quickly in the run-up to Korea’s spring cherry blossom season and its autumn foliage season, which are exactly when most UAE residents want to go. Your original passport is then held for the whole processing window, so the appointment date effectively sets the earliest date you can fly.

Plan on four to six weeks from first enquiry to passport in hand, and do not book non-refundable flights before your visa is issued. For visa-free nationals the picture is entirely different: a K-ETA is normally decided within 72 hours, though Korea warns that surges can push it beyond that, and it must be approved before you board rather than on arrival.

Why Choose Visa Doctor for Your South Korea Visa?

  • We answer the K-ETA or visa question first: the two routes have nothing in common in cost, timeline or effort, and getting this wrong wastes weeks.
  • We work the appointment windows: booking on the morning of the 1st or the 16th is the difference between travelling next month and travelling in three months.
  • We know where Korean applications fail: app-printed bank statements, statements older than two weeks, a residence visa inside six months of expiry, and the two-year residency rule for listed nationalities.
  • NOC letters written properly: Korea wants purpose, name, passport number, nationality, position, salary and signatory details. A generic HR letter is not enough.
  • UAE-based team: our Dubai office deals with UAE sponsors, Emirates IDs and local bank branches daily, including for Abu Dhabi and Al Ain applicants who file at the Embassy.
  • Transparent pricing: the consular fee is fixed and payable in cash by you. Our charge is separate, quoted upfront, and there is no hidden centre fee because there is no outsourced centre.

Frequently Asked Questions, South Korea Visa from Dubai

Do UAE residents need a visa to visit South Korea?

It depends on your passport. Nationals of Korea’s visa-waiver countries, including the UAE, travel without a visa and apply for a K-ETA instead. Residents of the UAE holding Indian, Pakistani, Filipino, Egyptian, Bangladeshi, Sri Lankan or Nigerian passports, among many others, need a C-3-9 short-term visa applied for in person at the Korean mission.

Do UAE nationals need a visa for South Korea?

No. Emirati passport holders enter Korea visa-free for up to 90 days. They do, however, still need a K-ETA, because the UAE is not among the 22 countries temporarily exempted from that requirement through the end of 2026.

How much does a South Korea visa cost from Dubai?

The Consulate General in Dubai charges AED 160 for a single-entry visa of 90 days or less, AED 240 for a single entry over 90 days, AED 280 for double entry and AED 360 for multiple entry. Payment is exact cash only, no cards, and the fee is not refunded if the application is refused.

Is there a Korea Visa Application Centre in Dubai?

No. Korea has no visa application centre in the UAE and no outsourced submission partner. Applications go directly to the Consulate General in Dubai for Dubai and the northern emirates, or the Embassy in Abu Dhabi for Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, in person and by appointment.

How do I get an appointment at the Korean consulate in Dubai?

Tourist visa appointments are booked online through Korea’s overseas portal at g4k.go.kr. Slots for the 1st to the 15th of a month are released on the 16th of the previous month at 8:30am, and slots for the 16th to the end of the month are released on the 1st at 8:30am. Walk-ins are not accepted.

How long does a South Korea visa take from the UAE?

The consulate states seven calendar days from submission. In practice the appointment is the limiting factor, so allow four to six weeks from first enquiry to having your passport back, and do not book non-refundable flights first.

What bank statement does Korea accept for a tourist visa?

An original statement covering the last three months, stamped by your bank and issued within the last two weeks. Statements downloaded from a banking app or printed at home are not accepted, and this is one of the most common reasons a Dubai application is turned away at the counter.

Do I need two years of UAE residence to apply for a Korean visa in Dubai?

If you hold a passport from one of the 33 countries on Korea’s list, which includes India, Pakistan, the Philippines, Egypt, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Nigeria, Vietnam, Indonesia and China among others, you must submit copies of previous UAE visas proving the most recent two years of continuous residence. Other nationalities are not asked for it.

What is the K-ETA and how much does it cost?

The K-ETA is Korea’s electronic travel authorisation for visa-free travellers. It costs 10,000 KRW plus a payment fee, is valid for three years or until your passport expires, and is usually decided within 72 hours. It must be approved before you board your flight, and it is not refunded if refused.

Do I need to complete Korea’s electronic arrival card?

Korea made an electronic arrival card mandatory for foreign nationals from 1 January 2026, to be submitted in the three days before arrival, while continuing to accept the paper card in parallel during the transition. K-ETA holders are exempt from the arrival card entirely; visa holders are not.

Can I visit Jeju Island without a Korean visa?

Jeju operates a separate visa-free regime allowing most nationalities up to 30 days, but 23 nationalities are excluded from it, including Pakistani, Egyptian, Bangladeshi, Nigerian and Sri Lankan passport holders. Indian and Filipino nationals are not on the exclusion list, which makes Jeju a genuine option for them.

Does South Korea give five-year visas to GCC residents?

There is no special five-year scheme for GCC nationals or UAE residents. Korea does issue ordinary multiple-entry short-stay visas at AED 360, reported to run up to five years, but they are granted at the mission’s discretion and the criteria are not published. Treat any agency promising a guaranteed five-year Korean visa with caution.
