Planning a trip to Iceland from Dubai or anywhere in the UAE? Visa Doctor makes your Iceland Schengen visa application simple, fast and stress-free. Our Dubai consultants prepare your documents, complete the online stage and book the appointment. Iceland is a bucket-list destination for UAE residents: the Northern Lights between September and March, the Blue Lagoon and South Coast, and the Ring Road in summer. It is also the one Schengen application from the Emirates that leaves the country before it is decided, which changes both the cost and the timeline.

What is an Iceland Schengen Visa?
An Iceland Schengen visa is a short-stay Type C visa allowing UAE residents to enter Iceland and travel freely across all 29 Schengen Area member countries. It is required for non-GCC nationals living in the UAE visiting for tourism, business, family or other short stays. UAE passport holders are visa-exempt for up to 90 days in any 180-day period, so this page is for the expatriate residents of Dubai and the wider UAE.
The difference from every other Schengen country is where the decision happens. Iceland has no diplomatic mission anywhere in the UAE and, contrary to what most applicants assume, is not represented here by Denmark or Norway either. You submit at VFS Global in Dubai or Abu Dhabi and your file is couriered to the Embassy of Iceland in New Delhi, which decides it. Iceland’s government portal lists both cities and names New Delhi as the deciding authority.
That is not an oddity of the UAE: Iceland operates only four visa-deciding consulates in the world, in Beijing, New Delhi, London and Washington DC. The Nordic representation pattern people expect is real but applies elsewhere, with Denmark representing Iceland in Riyadh, Tel Aviv, Tehran and Ankara and Norway in Amman and Beirut.

- 📌 Logistic fee: EUR 12, about AED 51.33, covering the courier to New Delhi and back
- 📌 Total for an adult: roughly AED 548, more than any other Schengen application from the Emirates
- 📌 Where you submit: VFS Global in Dubai or Abu Dhabi
- 📌 Where it is decided: the Embassy of Iceland in New Delhi
- 📌 Processing time: 15 days from the embassy’s receipt of the file, extendable to 30 and up to 60 exceptionally; VFS states overall processing has extended to 45 days

One correction while you budget: Iceland’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs page still quotes the pre-June 2024 fee of EUR 80 for adults and EUR 40 for children. It is out of date. EUR 90 and EUR 45 are the current Visa Code rates and what VFS charges.
Types of Iceland Visas Available from the UAE
Tourist visa: the main route for UAE residents, covering a Northern Lights week between September and March, a Blue Lagoon and South Coast break, or a summer Ring Road self-drive.
Business visa: for professionals attending meetings, conferences or trade events, supported by an invitation from the Icelandic host and your UAE employer’s letter.
Visit visa for family and friends: for residents staying with a host in Iceland. Where the host covers your costs, the daily funds threshold drops from 8,000 to 4,000 krona.
Cultural, sports and conference visas: for participants in an organised event, supported by the organiser’s confirmation.
Airport transit visa: needed only by certain nationalities transiting Keflavik without entering the Schengen Area.
Long-stay visas and residence permits: for people moving to Iceland to work, study or join family, handled by the Directorate of Immigration on a different track.
Where UAE Residents Apply for an Iceland Visa
You submit at VFS Global in Dubai or Abu Dhabi. Iceland’s government portal names VFS as the submission point for both cities, so residents of Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, Abu Dhabi and Al Ain use whichever centre suits. There is no Icelandic embassy or consulate anywhere in the Emirates to attend instead.
From there your file is couriered to the Embassy of Iceland in New Delhi, which decides it and couriers the passport back. That is what the EUR 12 logistic fee pays for, and why the total is higher than for any neighbouring consulate.
Two rules follow from applying to a non-resident post. An online application must be created and submitted on the Icelandic visa portal before your VFS appointment, with the confirmation printed and brought along; booking VFS first and filling nothing in online means being turned away. And any missing document must be emailed to the mission in PDF only within five calendar days of the appointment, with your name, passport number and application city in the subject line. Miss it and the file is decided incomplete. Five calendar days is not five working days.
Apply to Iceland only if Iceland is genuinely your main destination: you apply where you will spend the most nights, and where they split evenly, to the country you enter first. The exception is the Icelandair stopover, where two or three nights in Reykjavik are bolted onto a longer trip to North America, and there the night count needs checking first.
Iceland Visa Requirements from Dubai
The following are generally required for an Iceland tourist or short-stay Schengen visa application from the UAE:
- ✅ Online application submitted on the Icelandic visa portal, with the confirmation printed
- ✅ Valid passport, at least six months beyond your travel dates, with two blank pages
- ✅ Recent passport photographs, white background, 35x45mm
- ✅ UAE residence permit or Emirates ID, valid at least three months beyond your Schengen departure
- ✅ Bank statements for the last three to six months, clearing the krona-per-day threshold
- ✅ NOC or employment letter on company letterhead
- ✅ Travel medical insurance for the whole Schengen Area, minimum EUR 30,000 cover
- ✅ Confirmed return flight reservation
- ✅ Hotel reservations or proof of accommodation for the stay
- ✅ Proof of civil status, such as a marriage certificate
Additional Documents for Specific Categories
- ✅ Employed applicants: salary slips, employment contract and leave approval
- ✅ Self-employed: trade licence, company bank statements and registration documents
- ✅ Students: enrolment letter and NOC from your UAE institution, plus proof of sponsorship
- ✅ Retired applicants: pension statements or other proof of income
- ✅ Business travellers: invitation from the Icelandic host organisation
- ✅ Sponsored visitors: the host’s invitation and evidence of support, which lowers the daily threshold to 4,000 krona
Iceland does not leave the means-of-subsistence question vague, and this is where applicants and agents alike miscalculate. Funds are assessed at 8,000 Icelandic krona per day in hotel accommodation, or 4,000 krona per day if you are sponsored. Convert it for your own trip length before applying and make sure your balance clears it comfortably rather than exactly.
How to Get an Iceland Schengen Tourist Visa from Dubai (Step-by-Step)
An Iceland application from Dubai has an online stage, a submission stage and a courier stage.
Iceland Visa Processing Time from the UAE
The stated processing time is 15 days from the embassy’s receipt of the file, extendable to 30 days and up to 60 in exceptional cases. VFS adds that overall processing time has been extended up to 45 days.
Read that wording carefully. The 15-day clock starts when New Delhi receives your file, not when you attend VFS in Dubai, so both courier legs sit outside it entirely. Do not plan against 15 days from your appointment: plan against the 45-day figure VFS itself quotes. We recommend applying six to eight weeks before travel, and earlier for the Northern Lights season.
Because UAE files are decided in India, there is no Iceland refusal rate for the UAE to quote, and anyone quoting one is inventing it. What exists is the New Delhi post’s total across every market it serves: in 2025 it received 10,906 applications, issued 8,061 and refused 2,793, a rate of 25.7%, against 5,257 applications and a 16.3% rate in 2024. Volume roughly doubled while the refusal rate rose more than nine points. UAE residents are a minority of that total, so treat it as direction of travel rather than your own odds.
Why Choose Visa Doctor for Your Iceland Visa?
- ⭐ We know where your file goes: Iceland has no UAE mission and is not represented by Denmark or Norway here, so we plan the timeline around New Delhi.
- ⭐ The online stage done first: the portal application and printed confirmation are ready before the appointment, so you are not turned away.
- ⭐ Funds calculated in krona: we convert the 8,000 or 4,000 krona daily benchmark for your actual trip length.
- ⭐ Nothing left to the five-day window: every document is present on the day, so the five calendar day PDF deadline is never needed.
- ⭐ Current fees: Iceland’s ministry page still shows the withdrawn EUR 80 rate; we quote what VFS charges, including the EUR 12 logistic fee.
- ⭐ Transparent pricing: a clear breakdown of the consular, service and logistic fees, insurance and our agency fee.
Frequently Asked Questions, Iceland Visa from Dubai
Do UAE residents need a visa to visit Iceland?
Yes, unless you hold a UAE passport. UAE passport holders travel to Iceland and the wider Schengen Area visa-free for up to 90 days in any 180-day period, while non-GCC nationals residing in Dubai must apply first.
Where is my Iceland visa application actually decided?
At the Embassy of Iceland in New Delhi. Iceland has no mission in the UAE and is not represented here by Denmark or Norway. VFS Global in Dubai and Abu Dhabi collects your file and couriers it to India.
How much does an Iceland visa cost from Dubai?
EUR 90, published as AED 390, for adults and EUR 45 or AED 195 for children aged 6 to 12. On top sit a VFS service fee of EUR 25 and a logistic fee of EUR 12 for the courier to New Delhi and back, taking the total to roughly AED 548. Iceland’s own foreign ministry page still shows the withdrawn EUR 80 fee.
How long does an Iceland visa take from the UAE?
Longer than fifteen days. The fifteen-day period starts when New Delhi receives the file, not when you attend VFS, so both courier legs sit outside it. VFS states overall processing has extended up to forty-five days, which is the figure to plan against.
How much money do I need for an Iceland visa?
Iceland assesses funds at 8,000 Icelandic krona per day where you stay in hotel accommodation, or 4,000 krona per day if you are sponsored. Convert that for your own trip length before applying, because it is frequently miscalculated.
Do I have to apply online before my Iceland visa appointment?
Yes. An online application must be created and submitted on the Icelandic visa portal before your VFS appointment, and the confirmation printed and brought with you.
What happens if a document is missing from my Iceland application?
You have five calendar days from the appointment to email it as a PDF, with your name, passport number and application city in the subject line. After that the file is decided as it stands. Five calendar days is not five working days.
Is there an Iceland refusal rate for the UAE?
No, and anyone quoting one is inventing it. Because UAE files are decided in New Delhi they are counted in that post’s totals: 10,906 applications and a 25.7% refusal rate in 2025, up from 16.3% in 2024.
How long must my UAE residence permit be valid for an Iceland visa?
At least three months beyond your intended departure from the Schengen area. That is a longer runway than many residents expect, so check your Emirates ID expiry before booking flights.
Where is the Iceland visa application centre in the UAE?
VFS Global in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Iceland’s government portal lists both cities as submission points, with no split by emirate, so residents anywhere in the UAE may use whichever centre has an appointment.
