We secure appointments from 7 days, with your documents prepared and checked beforehand so the slot holds. The appointment is what we arrange. The visa decision belongs to the consulate.

Planning a trip to Hungary from Dubai or anywhere in the UAE? Visa Doctor makes your Hungary Schengen visa application simple, fast and stress-free. Our visa consultants in Dubai prepare and check every document, book the appointment and brief you before you submit at the visa application centre. Budapest is a popular short break for UAE residents, for the thermal baths, the Danube and the Christmas markets, and Hungarian universities draw a steady student flow from the Emirates. Hungary also asks for one document in a longer form than almost any other Schengen state, which is where most files come unstuck.

What is a Hungary Schengen Visa?

A Hungary Schengen visa is a short-stay Type C visa allowing UAE residents to enter Hungary and travel freely across all 29 Schengen Area member countries. It is required for non-GCC nationals living in the UAE who want to visit Hungary for tourism, business, medical travel, family or other short stays. UAE passport holders are visa-exempt for up to 90 days in any 180-day period, so this page is written for expatriate residents of Dubai, Abu Dhabi and the northern emirates.

Hungary has a reputation in this market as an easy Schengen visa. The published figures say otherwise, and it is worth knowing before you apply. On the European Commission’s 2025 consulate figures, Hungary’s Abu Dhabi post received 10,424 short-stay applications, issued 6,691 and refused 3,636, a refusal rate of 35.2% against a UAE-wide average of 23.9%. It is the busiest Central European mission in the Emirates and one of the stricter ones.

That combination of high volume and high refusal is what an easy-visa reputation produces: it attracts applications where Hungary is not really the destination, and the consulate refuses them. The fee is not refunded.

Hungary Visa Key Details

  • 📌 Entries: single, double or multiple entry, at the consulate’s discretion
  • 📌 Hungary visa fee: AED 389 for a standard adult short-stay visa, AED 195 for children aged 6 to 12
  • 📌 Service fee: AED 117.78 including taxes at VFS Global
  • 📌 Long-stay category: AED 476, with a AED 172.80 service fee

  • 📌 Document language: English or Hungarian only

Hungary publishes its visa fee in dirhams only. The statutory Schengen fee has been EUR 90 since 11 June 2024 and certainly applies, but that euro figure comes from the Visa Code rather than from the Hungarian mission’s own schedule. We confirm the current figure before you pay.

Types of Hungary Visas Available from the UAE

Tourist visa: the main route for UAE residents visiting Budapest and the rest of Hungary for sightseeing, the thermal baths, the Danube towns or the Christmas markets. Up to 90 days in any 180-day period.

Business visa: for professionals attending meetings, conferences or trade events. An invitation letter from the Hungarian host company is required alongside the standard documents and your UAE employer’s letter.

Visit visa for family and friends: for residents staying with a host in Hungary, supported by an invitation letter.

Medical treatment visa: Hungary receives a genuine flow of dental and medical travellers from the UAE, supported by a confirmed appointment or treatment plan from the Hungarian clinic and evidence of funding.

Student and long-stay categories: for UAE residents enrolled at a Hungarian university. These are national visas rather than short-stay Schengen visas, priced at AED 476 with a AED 172.80 service fee.

Airport transit visa: required only for certain nationalities transiting a Hungarian airport without entering the Schengen Area.

Where UAE Residents Apply for a Hungary Visa

Hungary works through VFS Global, and unusually for this market the mission publishes the centre addresses itself. Applications may be submitted in Abu Dhabi at The Mall, World Trade Centre, Level B2, or in Dubai at Wafi Mall, 1st Floor, Phase 5 Horus, Umm Hurair 2. Those two are worth trusting precisely because they come from an official Hungarian page: several other governments still publish the superseded Wafi Phase 2 Falcon address after VFS relocated within the mall in March 2025.

There is no split by emirate. The Hungarian consular section’s jurisdiction covers the complete territory of the United Arab Emirates, so residents of Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah may lodge in Abu Dhabi and the reverse, with the decision taken at the embassy in Abu Dhabi in every case. You must be a UAE citizen or resident to apply here at all.

Appointments are mandatory for every consular service, with appeals the only walk-in exception, and the consular telephone window is narrow: enquiries are taken from 13:00 to 14:00, Monday to Friday.

Apply to Hungary only if Hungary is genuinely your main destination: you apply where you will spend the most nights, and where they split evenly, to the country you enter first. Hungary named on an itinerary mostly spent in Austria, Germany or Italy is the most likely single driver of that 35.2%.

Hungary Visa Requirements from Dubai

The following documents are generally required for a Hungary tourist or short-stay Schengen visa application from the UAE:

  • ✅ Valid passport, at least six months beyond your travel dates, with two blank pages
  • ✅ Completed and signed Schengen visa application form
  • ✅ Recent passport-sized photographs, white background, 35x45mm
  • ✅ Valid UAE residence visa and Emirates ID copy
  • Six months of personal bank statements, original and stamped by the bank
  • ✅ Employment letter on company letterhead, plus a separate leave certificate or no objection letter
  • ✅ Travel medical insurance covering the whole Schengen Area, minimum EUR 30,000 of cover
  • ✅ Confirmed return flight reservation
  • ✅ Hotel reservations or proof of accommodation for the whole stay
  • ✅ Proof of civil status, such as a marriage or birth certificate
  • ✅ All documents in English or Hungarian only

Additional Documents for Specific Categories

  • Employed applicants: salary slips, employment contract and the leave certificate or NOC Hungary asks for on top of the employment letter
  • Self-employed and business owners: trade licence, company bank statements and registration documents, translated if the originals are in Arabic
  • Students: enrolment letter and NOC from your UAE institution, plus proof of sponsorship
  • Retired applicants: pension statements or other proof of income with bank statements
  • Business travellers: invitation letter from the Hungarian host company
  • Medical travellers: confirmed appointment or treatment plan from the Hungarian clinic and evidence of funding

The bank statement is the single most useful item here. Hungary requires an original, bank-stamped personal statement covering the last six months, where most Schengen missions in the UAE ask for three, so anyone reusing a folder prepared for another country will be short and will not discover it until the counter. A printed PDF from the banking app does not satisfy it, and six-month statements are not always issued same day. The English or Hungarian rule bites the same way: an Arabic-only trade licence will not be accepted.

How to Get a Hungary Schengen Tourist Visa from Dubai (Step-by-Step)

A Hungary visa application from Dubai turns on preparation, because the document list is longer than most. This is how we run it.

1
Contact Visa Doctor: Reach our Dubai team by phone, WhatsApp or the contact form for a free assessment, including whether Hungary is the right consulate for your itinerary.
2
Personalised Document Checklist: Your consultant issues a checklist matched to your profile, employed, self-employed, student or retired, with the six-month statement and the leave certificate flagged up front.
3
Order the Six-Month Bank Statement: We start this first, because it is the item most likely to delay you. It must be original and bank-stamped, not downloaded from the app.
4
Document Preparation: We prepare the whole file, including the cover letter, EUR 30,000 travel medical insurance, flight reservations and hotel bookings, and arrange translation where needed.
5
Book Your Visa Appointment: We secure the earliest slot at VFS Global in Dubai or Abu Dhabi. Because the Hungarian jurisdiction covers the whole UAE, we can take whichever centre opens first.
6
Attend Your Appointment: You submit the file and give biometrics, fingerprints and a photograph. We brief you beforehand on what to expect at the centre.
7
Pay the Fee and Track: The AED 389 visa fee and the AED 117.78 VFS service fee are paid at the centre on the day. We provide the tracking reference and monitor progress.
8
Collect Your Passport: Collect your passport from the centre once the decision is issued, or take the courier option where it is offered.

Hungary Visa Processing Time from the UAE

The embassy states 15 days, extendable to 30 days in some cases and to 60 days exceptionally where additional documents are required. That is the Visa Code standard and it is the figure to plan against. The VFS one-pager states a minimum of 15 calendar days, which is consistent with it.

One other number is in circulation and you may meet it. A VFS tourist visa checklist still online states that approval of visa applications takes fourteen days, which is inconsistent with both the embassy and the Visa Code. Treat the embassy’s 15 to 30 to 60 as authoritative.

Neither the embassy nor VFS publishes an appointment waiting time for Hungary. We recommend applying four to six weeks before travel, and earlier for summer, the Christmas market season and the university intake, when volumes rise sharply at the busiest Central European mission here.

Why Choose Visa Doctor for Your Hungary Visa?

  • We start with the six-month statement: the requirement that catches most UAE applicants is the first thing we put in motion, not the last.
  • Checklists that are current: a September 2021 Hungary checklist demanding a negative PCR test is still hosted on the VFS domain. That requirement no longer exists, and we work from the live version.
  • Language handled: Hungary accepts English or Hungarian only, so we arrange translation of Arabic documents before the appointment rather than after a rejection.
  • Honest destination advice: with more than a third of UAE applications refused, we will say if Hungary is the wrong consulate before you pay a non-refundable fee.
  • Fast appointment access: we secure slots at either VFS centre, since the Hungarian jurisdiction covers the whole UAE.
  • Transparent pricing: a clear breakdown of the AED 389 visa fee, the VFS service fee, insurance and our agency fee.

Frequently Asked Questions, Hungary Visa from Dubai

Do UAE residents need a visa to visit Hungary?

Yes, unless you hold a UAE passport. UAE passport holders travel to Hungary and the wider Schengen Area visa-free for up to 90 days in any 180-day period, while expatriates and other non-GCC nationals residing in Dubai must apply for a Hungary Schengen visa first.

How many months of bank statements does Hungary want?

Six, original and stamped by the bank. Most Schengen missions in the UAE ask for three, which is why this catches applicants reusing a folder prepared for another country. A PDF printed from your banking app does not satisfy it.

How much does a Hungary visa cost from Dubai?

AED 389 for a standard adult short-stay visa and AED 195 for children aged 6 to 12, plus a VFS Global service fee of AED 117.78 including taxes. Hungary publishes these in dirhams only.

Is Hungary an easy Schengen visa to get from Dubai?

No. Hungary refused 35.2% of UAE applications in 2025 on the European Commission’s own consulate figures, against a UAE average of 23.9%. It received 10,424 applications and refused 3,636. The belief that it is lenient attracts speculative applications, which is part of why.

Where is the Hungary visa application centre in Dubai?

VFS Global at Wafi Mall, 1st Floor, Phase 5 Horus, Umm Hurair 2. In Abu Dhabi it is The Mall, World Trade Centre, Level B2. Both come from the Hungarian mission’s own page, which is more reliable than sources still listing the pre-March 2025 Wafi location.

Can I apply for a Hungary visa in Dubai or must I go to Abu Dhabi?

Either. The Hungarian consular section’s jurisdiction covers the complete territory of the UAE, so you may lodge at the VFS centre in Dubai or Abu Dhabi whichever your emirate of residence. The decision is taken at the embassy in Abu Dhabi in both cases.

Do I still need a PCR test for a Hungary visa?

No. A September 2021 checklist still hosted on the VFS site demands a negative PCR test within 72 hours, but that requirement no longer exists and a newer version of the same checklist on the same site omits it. Check the date on any checklist you download.

What language do Hungary visa documents have to be in?

English or Hungarian only. An Arabic-only document, such as a trade licence, will not be accepted, so translation has to be arranged before the appointment rather than after a document is refused at the counter.

How long does a Hungary visa take to process?

Fifteen days, extendable to 30 in some cases and to 60 exceptionally where additional documents are required. A VFS checklist quoting fourteen days is inconsistent with the embassy and the Visa Code.

Do I need an appointment for the Hungarian consular section?

Yes. Appointments are mandatory for every consular service, with appeals the only walk-in exception. The consular section’s telephone enquiry window is also narrow, running from 13:00 to 14:00 Monday to Friday only.
