Our visa consultants in Dubai handle every stage, from building the document file to confirming where Slovak applications are actually being accepted this month. Slovakia is compact and good value: the High Tatras for skiing and hiking, Bratislava and the Danube corridor an hour from Vienna, and an automotive manufacturing base that brings business travellers from the Gulf. Whether you travel for tourism, business, family or study, our team will tell you what a Slovak file needs.

What is a Slovakia Schengen Visa?

A Slovakia Schengen visa is a short-stay Type C visa that lets UAE residents enter Slovakia and travel freely across all 29 Schengen Area member countries. It is required for non-GCC nationals living in the UAE. UAE passport holders are exempt for up to 90 days in any 180-day period, so this page is for the expatriate residents of Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and the Northern Emirates who do apply.

One rule matters more here than on almost any other Schengen application from the Emirates. A Schengen visa is issued by one country and used across the whole area, but you do not choose which: you apply where you will spend the most nights, and where nights split evenly, to the country you enter first. Slovakia enforces that at the counter rather than at the decision stage. Its own checklist states that the application will not be accepted unless the main destination is Slovakia. An itinerary that is mostly Vienna or Prague with two nights in Bratislava is not a weak Slovak application; it is one the counter can decline to take in.

Slovakia Visa Key Details

  • 📌 Visa type: Schengen Short-Stay Visa (Type C)
  • 📌 Maximum stay: up to 90 days within any 180-day period
  • 📌 Entries: single, double or multiple; 383 of the 737 visas issued in the UAE in 2025 were multiple entry, about 52 per cent
  • 📌 Slovakia visa fee: EUR 90, published as AED 380, for adults; EUR 45 or AED 190 for children aged 6 to 12; free for under-6s
  • 📌 Service fee: AED 70.71 including VAT at BLS International, cash only and non-refundable
  • 📌 Slovakia visa application centre: Abu Dhabi only, mid-handover from BLS International to VFS Global
  • 📌 Processing time: 15 calendar days from receipt of a complete file, extendable to 45
  • 📌 Earliest you can lodge: six months before travel
  • 📌 Travel medical insurance: minimum EUR 30,000 of Schengen-wide cover
  • 📌 Main destination: must be Slovakia, and it is checked at intake

Two published figures are wrong. A VFS Slovakia one-pager shows AED 325, the old EUR 80 fee superseded on 11 June 2024. Its checklist caps lodging at ninety days; the Visa Code has allowed six months since 2020.

Types of Slovakia Visas Available from the UAE

Tourist visa (Type C): the standard route for sightseeing, skiing in the High Tatras or a Danube city break. Up to 90 days in any 180-day period, and only where Slovakia is the main destination.

Business visa (Type C): for meetings, factory visits, trade events or negotiations. An invitation from the Slovak host company is normally required alongside the standard Schengen file; Slovakia’s automotive and engineering sector generates most of this traffic from the Gulf.

Visiting family or friends: supported by an invitation from the host in Slovakia. Where it has been verified by the Slovak Police Department, the applicant is one of the few categories allowed to attend without a pre-booked appointment.

Student and short-course visa: a Type C visa covers courses, exchanges and summer schools inside the 90-day limit. A full programme needs a national D visa.

National D visa and residence permits: these cannot be lodged through a visa application centre at all. They must be submitted in person at the Slovak embassy in Abu Dhabi, at least thirty days before travel, with every document translated into Slovak by an official translator. Budget weeks for the translations alone.

Family members of EU citizens: a facilitated route, fee waived.

Where UAE Residents Apply for a Slovakia Visa

Slovakia is represented in the Emirates by its embassy in Abu Dhabi, and there is no Dubai submission point. Whether you live in Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman or Ras Al Khaimah, plan on travelling to Abu Dhabi for documents and biometrics. There is no jurisdiction split by emirate, because there is one point of intake.

Which point that is right now is genuinely unsettled. The embassy names two providers on the same page, BLS International and VFS Global, because a handover is in progress. VFS won a five-year global mandate for Slovak visas in November 2025 with roll-out from January 2026, and the UAE was named among the highest-volume markets.

The outgoing provider carries two notices at once. BLS says its Abu Dhabi centre has been temporarily relocated to Tamouh Tower on Al Reem Island, and separately that, on instructions from the embassy, all visa submission appointments are postponed until further notice. Its own contact page still lists a different address at Wafra Square Building in Najmat. Confirm by telephone which centre is accepting Slovak files before you book anything. Trade coverage put Slovak appointment waits in the UAE at roughly six weeks, expected to fall to three to five days once VFS counters open.

The embassy accepts applications directly only in cases of special consideration, and warns of a wait of several weeks. Walk-ins without an appointment are permitted only for holders of a police-verified invitation and for family members of EU citizens. Fees at the centre are cash only.

  • ✅ Valid UAE residence visa and Emirates ID
  • ✅ Recent personal bank statements showing sufficient funds
  • ✅ NOC or leave letter from your employer or sponsor, on letterhead

How to Get a Slovakia Schengen Tourist Visa from Dubai (Step-by-Step)

Applying for a Slovakia visa from Dubai is straightforward once two things are settled: where the file is accepted this month, and whether Slovakia holds most of your nights.

1
Contact Visa Doctor: Send us your passport, residence visa and outline itinerary. Our Dubai team assesses eligibility free, starting with whether Slovakia is really your main destination.
2
Confirm the Submission Point: Because Slovak intake is moving from BLS International to VFS Global, we confirm which Abu Dhabi centre is accepting files before anything else is booked.
3
Get a Personalised Checklist: You receive a checklist built around your profile: employed, self-employed, student, retired or visiting family.
4
Prepare the Document File: We organise the complete file: cover letter, insurance, accommodation bookings and an itinerary weighted towards Slovakia.
5
Book the Appointment: We secure the earliest slot at the Slovakia visa application centre in Abu Dhabi, usually the longest part of the process.
6
Attend and Give Biometrics: You attend in Abu Dhabi to submit the file and give biometrics. We brief you beforehand and remind you to carry cash.
7
Pay the Fees: EUR 90 or AED 380 for adults, EUR 45 or AED 190 for children aged 6 to 12, plus the AED 70.71 service fee including VAT. Both are non-refundable and cash only.
8
Track and Collect: We monitor the file with the embassy and tell you when the decision is issued. The passport is collected from the centre or returned by courier.

Slovakia Visa Processing Time from the UAE

The Slovak embassy states fifteen calendar days from the date it receives a complete application, extendable to forty-five. That is the figure to plan against, and it matches the Visa Code.

Three different processing times circulate on Slovak pages aimed at UAE residents. The visa centre’s tourism page says fifteen working days extendable to forty-five, excluding courier time; its homepage says fifteen calendar days extendable to thirty. They cannot all be right, and the embassy’s is the one that matches the law. Courier movement sits on top.

In practice the decision is rarely the slow part; the appointment queue is. With waits reported at around six weeks under the outgoing provider, start six to eight weeks before travel, and earlier for the ski season and summer holidays. You may lodge six months ahead, and there is no advantage in waiting.

Why Choose Visa Doctor for Your Slovakia Visa?

  • We confirm the submission point first: Slovak intake is mid-handover between BLS International and VFS Global, with conflicting addresses in play.
  • We test the main destination rule honestly: Slovakia will not accept a file where it is not the main destination. We count the nights with you before you pay a fee.
  • Correct fees, not legacy ones: we budget from EUR 90 and the AED 70.71 service fee, not the superseded AED 325 still printed on an old one-pager.
  • Realistic assessment: Slovakia refuses 31.5 per cent of UAE applications. We tell you where a file is weak rather than promising an outcome nobody can promise.
  • UAE-based team: our Dubai Sports City office works with UAE residence visas, Emirates IDs and employer letters every day.
  • Transparent pricing: a clear breakdown of the consular fee, service fee, insurance and our own charge, with nothing added later.

Frequently Asked Questions, Slovakia Visa from Dubai

Where do UAE residents submit a Slovakia visa application?

In Abu Dhabi, and the centre is changing hands. The embassy names both BLS International and VFS Global, VFS won a five-year global Slovak mandate in November 2025, and BLS shows submission appointments postponed until further notice while listing two Abu Dhabi addresses. Confirm the submission point by telephone; there is no Slovakia visa application centre in Dubai.

How much is a Slovakia visa from Dubai?

EUR 90, published as AED 380, for adults and EUR 45 or AED 190 for children aged 6 to 12, under-6s free, plus an AED 70.71 service fee including VAT, in cash. Ignore the AED 325 on the older VFS Slovakia one-pager: that is the EUR 80 fee replaced on 11 June 2024.

How long does a Slovakia visa take to process from the UAE?

Fifteen calendar days from the day the embassy receives a complete application, extendable to forty-five. Three different figures circulate on the visa centre’s pages; the embassy’s matches the Visa Code. Courier time sits outside that clock, and the appointment queue is usually the longer wait.

How early can I apply for a Slovakia Schengen visa?

Six months before travel. The Slovak checklist still says ninety days, but that limit was superseded in February 2020 and the checklist’s revision stamp is December 2022.

Will Slovakia refuse my application if I am visiting other Schengen countries too?

It may decline to accept it at all. Slovakia’s checklist states that the application will not be accepted unless the main destination is Slovakia, a counter-level test rather than a decision-stage one. Lodge with the country holding the majority of your nights.

Why does Slovakia refuse so many more applications in the UAE?

Slovakia refused 31.5 per cent of UAE applications in 2025 against a UAE-wide average of 23.9 per cent. Its Abu Dhabi post received 1,110 short-stay applications, issued 737 plus 38 with limited territorial validity and refused 357, on the European Commission’s figures. Slovakia refuses only 9.6 per cent worldwide, so the gap is the applicant mix, not a stricter Slovak stance.

Will I get a multiple-entry Slovakia visa?

There is a reasonable chance if you are approved. Of the 737 visas Slovakia issued from the UAE in 2025, 383 were multiple entry, about 52 per cent, so a file that gets through tends to get a useful visa.

Can I travel to other Schengen countries on a Slovakia visa?

Yes. A Slovakia Schengen visa is valid across all 29 Schengen Area member countries for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. The main destination rule governs where you apply, not where you travel.

Do UAE nationals need a visa for Slovakia?

No. UAE passport holders travel to Slovakia and the wider Schengen Area visa-free for short stays of up to 90 days in any 180-day period. Residents of other nationalities living in Dubai do need one.

How do I apply for a Slovak national D visa from the UAE?

Not through a visa application centre. National D visas and residence permits must be lodged in person at the Slovak embassy in Abu Dhabi at least thirty days before travel, with every document translated into Slovak by an official translator.
