To get a Germany visa appointment in Dubai or Abu Dhabi, register on the VFS Global waitlist for Germany as soon as your plans are fixed. When the German visa section releases slots, VFS emails waitlisted applicants in chronological order, and each invitation is valid for 24 hours. Residents of Dubai and the Northern Emirates submit at VFS Global Dubai; residents of Abu Dhabi and Al Ain submit at VFS Global Abu Dhabi. The German Consulate General in Dubai decides every application in the UAE. You can apply up to 6 months before travel, the visa fee is EUR 90 paid in dirhams, and the German missions say processing can take up to 15 days.
VFS is blunt about peak season: between May and September it is highly unlikely to book a Germany appointment without registering on the waitlist first, because remaining slots are released only after every waitlisted applicant has been offered one. - Up to 6 months before travel. Register on the waitlist the day you know your dates.
- Validity
- Up to 90 days in any 180-day period across the Schengen area. Multiple-entry visas of 1, 2 and then up to 5 years are available to travellers who used earlier visas lawfully.
How to book a Germany visa appointment in the UAE, step by step
- Confirm Germany is your main destination, meaning the country where you spend the longest part of the trip.
- Register on the waitlist on the VFS Global Germany UAE page. The German Missions ask applicants to register as soon as possible.
- Watch your inbox, including spam. When the visa section releases new slots you receive an email notification. The link is valid for 24 hours only, so act the same day.
- Book under the correct category. Germany separates Short Stay (tourism and family visits) from Business (meetings or trade fairs connected to your profession). If you book the wrong category you will not be allowed to submit on the day and will be asked to book again.
- Book at the right centre. An Abu Dhabi appointment cannot be moved to Dubai or the other way round. Each person needs a separate appointment and a separate application.
- Fill the Videx form for a short stay on videx.diplo.de, print it and bring it, together with the printed appointment letter.
- Attend in person with the documents on the German checklist for your purpose, give fingerprints and a photo, and pay the visa fee.
- Track and collect. You receive an email when the decision is back at the centre. Collect the passport with your receipt and Emirates ID, or pay for courier return.
Waitlist bookings cannot be rescheduled. If you need a different date you have to register on the waitlist again and go through the same process. Appointments can be cancelled up to 3 days before; a new booking then needs a new service fee payment.
No Germany appointments available? What works and what does not
Germany is one of the most requested Schengen destinations from the UAE, and the waitlist is the system, not a backup. Refreshing the booking page in peak season without being registered is close to pointless.
- Register first, then prepare. Your place in the queue is chronological, so the date you register matters more than how often you check.
- Have the whole file ready so you can accept the 24-hour invitation immediately.
- Plan outside the peak. VFS names May to September as the period when booking without the waitlist is highly unlikely.
- Family of EU citizens. Spouses of German or EU citizens, and parents of minor German or EU citizens, who live in the UAE may walk in to a visa centre without a prior appointment. See walk-in appointments for EU family members.
- Genuine emergencies. The EU Visa Code allows a consulate to accept an application without an appointment, or give one immediately, in justified cases of urgency. Contact the consulate with evidence.
- What does not work: paying anyone for a guaranteed date, booking a Business slot for a holiday because it was free, or applying to Germany when it is not your main destination.

What is a Germany Schengen visa?
A Germany Schengen visa is the uniform short-stay visa (type C). It allows up to 90 days in any 180-day period in Germany and the other Schengen states for tourism, visits, business, medical treatment, sport or culture. UAE citizens do not need a visa for short stays; most expatriate nationalities living in the UAE do.
Germany business visa from the UAE
Book the Business category and follow the German checklist for business, trade fairs and congresses: an invitation from the German company or organiser, a letter from your UAE employer confirming your position and the purpose of the trip, and proof of who pays the costs, in addition to the standard documents below.
Germany visa documents checklist for UAE residents, by profile
The Germany checklist for your visa category is the final word, and missions update it without notice. This table is the standard Schengen file that UAE residents submit, arranged by who you are, so you can see what applies to you before you book.
- Every applicant
- Passport issued in the last 10 years, valid at least 3 months after you leave the Schengen area, with 2 blank pages; the Videx application form, printed and signed; one recent ICAO standard photo; UAE residence visa and Emirates ID; travel medical insurance of at least EUR 30,000 valid for the whole Schengen area and the whole trip; flight reservation and hotel booking (or an invitation letter); personal bank statements for the period your checklist states, stamped by the bank; a cover letter explaining the trip.
- Employed
- Employer NOC or salary certificate on company letterhead stating your position, salary, start date and approved leave dates, signed with the signatory’s full name and position; recent payslips if your checklist asks for them; the bank statement should show the salary arriving each month.
- Business owner or self-employed
- UAE trade licence, proof that you own or partly own the company (for example the memorandum of association or partner list), company bank statements and your personal bank statements; a letter on company letterhead explaining the trip.
- Dependant spouse or child (sponsored)
- Sponsor’s NOC with a copy of the sponsor’s passport and UAE residence visa, the sponsor’s employment letter or trade licence, the sponsor’s bank statements, and the marriage or birth certificate. Children under 18 need consent from both parents, and a parent who is not travelling signs an authorisation.
- Business travellers
- Invitation from the German host or trade fair registration, employer letter stating position and trip purpose, and who covers the costs.

Germany visa processing time from the UAE
The German Missions state that processing can take up to 15 days. The EU Visa Code allows 15 calendar days from a complete application, extendable to 45 days when further scrutiny is needed. The real delay for most UAE applicants is the waitlist before the appointment, not the decision after it.

Common Germany visa refusal reasons and how to fix them
The grounds for refusing a Schengen visa are the same for every member state and are listed in Article 32 of the EU Visa Code. The refusal letter ticks the ground that applied and explains how to appeal. These are the ones we see most often in UAE files, and what prevents each one.

Germany adds one practical trap: an appointment booked under the wrong category is not accepted on the day, which costs you both the slot and the service fee. Check the category before you pay.
Applying to the wrong country is a separate problem: you must apply to your main destination, the country where you spend the most nights, or the country you enter first if the nights are equal.
