Schengen Visa from Dubai for UAE Residents: 2026 Requirements and Appointments

To get a Schengen visa from Dubai, you apply to the consulate of your main destination, the Schengen country where you will spend the most nights, through its official visa centre in the UAE. For most countries that is VFS Global in Dubai or Abu Dhabi; Spain uses BLS International, Italy splits between VFS Global in Dubai and BLS in Abu Dhabi, and France accepts applications only at VFS Global in Abu Dhabi. You need a passport issued in the last 10 years and valid 3 months beyond your return, a valid UAE residence visa and Emirates ID, travel insurance of at least EUR 30,000, proof of funds, bookings and a reason to return. The visa fee is EUR 90 for adults, applications open 6 months before travel, and the standard decision time is 15 calendar days.

Most expatriate residents of the UAE, depending on nationality. UAE citizens travel visa-free for short stays.

What it allows

Up to 90 days in any 180-day period across all 29 Schengen countries, for tourism, family visits or business.

At the consulate of your main destination, through its visa centre in the UAE. Country by country: where each Schengen country takes applications.

Visa fee

EUR 90 for adults, EUR 45 for children aged 6 to under 12, free under 6 (EU Visa Code, Article 16). Charged in dirhams; each mission sets the AED amount, for example AED 388 at BLS Spain and AED 386 at BLS Italy Abu Dhabi.

Service fee

Charged by the visa centre on top of the visa fee: EUR 30.33 at VFS France, AED 73 at BLS Spain, EUR 16.80 at BLS Italy Abu Dhabi.

Processing time

15 calendar days as a rule, extendable to 45 (Visa Code, Article 23). Some missions publish longer averages: the Netherlands states 25 calendar days, and BLS says Spain’s minimum is 3 weeks.

When to apply

No earlier than 6 months and, as a rule, no later than 15 calendar days before the trip (Visa Code, Article 9). France asks for the appointment at least 3 months before departure.

Validity

Single, double or multiple entry. Multiple-entry visas step up to 1, 2 and then 5 years for travellers who used earlier visas lawfully (Visa Code, Article 24).

Insurance

At least EUR 30,000, covering the whole Schengen area and the whole stay (Visa Code, Article 15).

Which country do you apply to?

You apply to the country where you will spend the longest time. If the stays are equal, you apply to the country you enter first. The EU also expects you to apply at the consulate responsible for the place you legally live, which for UAE residents means applying from the UAE, not from your home country. Choosing a country only because it has appointments is a common reason for refusal, and some missions, such as Switzerland, state that they will not accept an application whose main destination is another country.

How to apply for a Schengen visa from Dubai, step by step

1. Fix your itinerary and work out your main destination.
2. Check your passport and residence visa. The passport must have been issued in the last 10 years, be valid 3 months after you leave the Schengen area and have 2 blank pages. Your UAE residence should be valid well beyond your return; Switzerland, for example, requires at least one month.
3. Complete the application form required by that country, online where the mission uses an online system (France-Visas for France, Videx for Germany, the Dutch consular portal for the Netherlands).
4. Book the appointment with the official visa centre, or register on its waitlist if the calendar is full. See the appointment guide.
5. Prepare the documents for your profile (table below) and a cover letter.
6. Attend in person, give fingerprints and a photo unless you are under 12 or gave them within the last 59 months, and pay the visa and service fees.
7. Track the application and collect the passport, or choose courier return.

These are the Schengen visa requirements for UAE residents, arranged by profile. The Schengen missions in the UAE use broadly unified document lists, with small differences, so always finish with the checklist of your destination country.

Every applicant

Passport issued in the last 10 years, valid at least 3 months after you leave the Schengen area, with 2 blank pages; the application form for your destination country, completed and signed; one recent ICAO standard photo; UAE residence visa and Emirates ID; travel medical insurance of at least EUR 30,000 valid for the whole Schengen area and the whole trip; flight reservation and hotel booking (or an invitation letter); personal bank statements for the period your checklist states, stamped by the bank; a cover letter explaining the trip.

Employed

Employer NOC or salary certificate on company letterhead stating your position, salary, start date and approved leave dates, signed with the signatory’s full name and position; recent payslips if your checklist asks for them; the bank statement should show the salary arriving each month.

Business owner or self-employed

UAE trade licence, proof that you own or partly own the company (for example the memorandum of association or partner list), company bank statements and your personal bank statements; a letter on company letterhead explaining the trip.

Dependant spouse or child (sponsored)

Sponsor’s NOC with a copy of the sponsor’s passport and UAE residence visa, the sponsor’s employment letter or trade licence, the sponsor’s bank statements, and the marriage or birth certificate. Children under 18 need consent from both parents, and a parent who is not travelling signs an authorisation.

Students in the UAE

Enrolment letter and NOC from the school or university, the sponsor’s documents and bank statements, and a letter showing the trip falls in the holidays.

Retired or not working

Proof of pension or other income, bank statements showing regular funds, and proof of your UAE residence status.

Schengen visa fees and processing time from Dubai

The visa fee is set by EU law in euros and collected in dirhams at the mission’s exchange rate, so the AED figure differs slightly by country and changes over time. The service fee belongs to the visa centre and is paid on top.

How long is a Schengen visa valid?

A Schengen visa lets you stay up to 90 days in any 180-day period, and the dates printed on it are the limit. Under Article 24 of the Visa Code, a traveller who meets the entry conditions can receive a multiple-entry visa valid for 1 year after obtaining and lawfully using three visas within the previous two years, then 2 years after lawfully using a 1-year visa, then 5 years after lawfully using a 2-year visa, unless the passport expires sooner.

Choosing a Schengen visa agent in Dubai

A Schengen visa agent in Dubai can prepare and check your file, complete forms, book or help you book the appointment, write the cover letter and arrange the flight and hotel reservations that embassies expect. The EU Visa Code expressly allows accredited commercial intermediaries to lodge applications. What no agent can do is influence the decision, create appointments that the consulate has not released, or skip the rules of a visa centre.

• Check the licence. A real agency shows its UAE trade licence number. Ours is 4417571.01.
• Ask what they will not do. An honest agent tells you that nobody can guarantee approval or sell a slot.
• Check they know the provider rules. BLS requires Spain applicants to book their own appointments, and the Swiss Embassy states it has no agreement with any agency for lodging applications. An agent who ignores this is a red flag.
• Ask for the fee in writing and what happens if the appointment cannot be booked in the agreed time.
