How Much Does Argentine Citizenship Cost?

The government has published the contribution for each family member. These totals use the $350,000 contribution route.

One adult
$350,000
Couple
$450,000
Couple and one child under 18
$475,000
Couple and two children under 18
$500,000
Couple, one unmarried child aged 18 to 25 and one child under 18
$575,000

Not included: government background check and processing fees (not yet published), legal translations and apostilles, bank transfer costs, and advisory or agent fees. We will publish our own fee in writing before we accept any client.

The bond route: $800,000 in a special government bond. Reports say it is held for seven years without interest, but this is not confirmed. Family amounts for the bond route have not been confirmed either.

Is the Argentina Citizenship Contribution Refundable?

  • Contribution route: the announced contribution from $350,000 goes to the National Treasury and is non refundable.
  • Bond route: $800,000 in a government security for the main applicant. Reports say a seven year term and no interest, but the final terms are not published, so it is not confirmed whether the principal is returned. Dependants make separate contributions, which are non refundable.
  • Fees: government and professional fees are not refundable, including if an application is refused.

Official terms can change, and fees are not refundable. Confirm the current rules on the government site before you pay anything.

How to Apply for Argentina Citizenship by Investment

  1. Prepare the file. The official document list has not been published. Expect passport copies, police certificates from every country you have lived in, and proof of where the funds come from.
  2. Agency review. The Agency for Citizenship by Investment Programs checks the investment and your background and recommends approval or refusal.
  3. Decision. The National Directorate of Migration decides within 30 business days of the recommendation.
  4. Payment. You pay the contribution or subscribe to the bond. The exact order of payment has not been published.
  5. Citizenship and passport. Once citizenship is granted you apply for the Argentine passport. Whether you must visit in person for biometrics or an oath is not confirmed.

It is also not yet confirmed whether applicants must use an accredited agent. The government cancelled its master agent tender in April 2026, and agent accreditation criteria are still to be published.

Do You Need to Live in Argentina?

No residence requirement has been announced. Normal naturalisation in Argentina needs two years of legal residence, and the investment programme waives that requirement. One consultancy says an in person biometric visit is needed, but the government has not said so. If you are asked to travel, we will tell you here.

Tax: Argentina has reportedly changed its tax code so that citizens naturalised under the programme do not automatically become Argentine tax residents. Confirm this with a tax adviser before you apply.

What Does an Argentine Passport Give You?

  • Schengen Area: visa free entry for up to 90 days in any 180 days. You do not need to apply for a Schengen visa for short visits.
  • United Kingdom: visa free, but you need the online travel permission (ETA) before you travel.
  • United States: you still need a visa. Argentina is not in the ESTA visa waiver programme.
  • South America: visa free travel and easy entry to neighbouring countries, including those in the Mercosur trade area (Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay and others), subject to the entry conditions in force.
  • Total: sources count about 168 to 170 destinations. The number changes over time.

Visa free means you can enter without applying for a visa. It is not residency, and it does not let you live or work in Europe.

Argentina Citizenship by Investment Risks: Read This Before You Register

  • Not open yet. There is no portal, opening date or published agent rules.
  • Legal challenge. The programme rests on an emergency decree, not a law passed by Congress. Courts ruled against parts of Decree 366/2025 in individual cases in June 2026. The matter has reached the Supreme Court, and bills to repeal the programme were filed in August and October 2026.
  • EU scrutiny. The EU has asked five Caribbean countries to close their citizenship programmes by 1 June 2028 or risk losing Schengen visa free access. Analysts expect Argentina to face similar scrutiny. There is no EU decision on Argentina. Citizenship already granted would not be removed, but visa free access could be.
  • Home country rules. Some countries do not allow dual citizenship. Check yours before you apply.
  • Cost changes. Fees and amounts may change before applications open.

Argentina Citizenship by Investment: Frequently Asked Questions

How much does Argentine citizenship by investment cost?

One adult pays a $350,000 non refundable contribution, or invests $800,000 in a special government bond. A spouse or an unmarried child aged 18 to 25 without children adds $100,000, and each child under 18 adds $25,000. A couple with two children under 18 pays $500,000 on the contribution route. Government background check fees, government processing fees and advisory fees are extra and have not been published yet.

Is Argentina citizenship by investment open for applications?

Not yet. The government announced the programme on 2 October 2026 and expects applications to open in the fourth quarter of 2026. No portal, opening date or agent rules have been published.

Do I have to live in Argentina to get citizenship?

No residence requirement has been announced. Normal naturalisation needs two years of legal residence, and the programme waives that. One consultancy says an in person biometric visit may be needed, but the government has not confirmed it. We will update this page when the rules are published.

Can I travel to the Schengen Area without a visa with an Argentine passport?

Yes. Argentine citizens can enter the Schengen Area without a visa for up to 90 days in any 180 days. This is visa free travel only. It does not give the right to live or work in Europe. The EU can change visa free access, so read the risks section before you decide.

Can I travel to the USA or UK with an Argentine passport?

Argentine citizens need a US visa, and they are not eligible for ESTA. For the UK they need the online travel permission (ETA) before they fly.

Can I keep my current nationality?

Argentina does not require you to give up another nationality. Your home country decides whether you can hold two. For example, India does not allow dual citizenship, so check your own rules before you apply.

Could the Argentina programme be cancelled?

It could be challenged. The programme rests on an emergency decree rather than a law passed by Congress. Courts ruled against parts of Decree 366/2025 in individual cases in June 2026, the matter has reached the Supreme Court, and bills to repeal the programme were filed in August and October 2026. We will report any change here.

How long will it take?

The National Directorate of Migration has 30 business days to decide after the agency recommends the application. The total time depends on the government background checks and has not been published. One industry firm estimates the first citizenships in early to mid 2027, which is an estimate and not an official date.

Is Argentina better than a Caribbean passport?

It depends on what you need. Argentina is expected to cost more, is not open yet and faces legal challenges. Caribbean passports are available now, but the EU has asked five Caribbean countries to close their programmes by 1 June 2028 or risk losing Schengen visa free access. A Schengen residence permit avoids that risk, but it is a residence card and not a passport.

Does it cost anything to join the Argentina waiting list?

No. Joining the Visa Doctor waiting list is free and carries no obligation. We will message you when the official rules are published, and we will give you our fee in writing before you pay anything.

Is Visa Doctor licensed to handle citizenship by investment applications?

Visa Doctor FZC holds a UAE trade licence (4417571.01) that covers immigration services. We are not a government authorised agent for any programme. Argentina has not yet published its rules for agents, so applications cannot be filed yet. We give our fee in writing before you pay anything.
