Do Nigerians need a UK visa when they live in the UAE?
Yes. The requirement to hold a UK visa is tied to your nationality, not your country of residence. A Nigerian citizen who lives and works in Dubai on a UAE residence visa still needs to apply for entry clearance before travelling to the United Kingdom. The good news is that applying from the UAE is often smoother than applying from Nigeria, because a UAE residence visa, a stable Gulf salary and an Emirates ID are exactly the kind of evidence a UK caseworker wants to see. Why Nigerians cannot use the UK ETA
The UK introduced its Electronic Travel Authorisation and eVisa system, and from early 2026 many nationalities need an ETA rather than a full visa. Nigeria is not on the ETA list. The ETA is only for nationalities that do not need a visa to visit the UK; Nigeria remains a visa-required country, alongside India, Pakistan, China and others. So a Nigerian traveller must apply for a Standard Visitor visa, attend biometrics, and wait for a decision — the ETA short-cut is simply not available. If anyone tells you a Nigerian can travel to the UK on just an ETA, that information is wrong and could lead to being refused boarding in Dubai.
Which UK visa do you need?

From 8 April 2026 the UK 6-month Standard Visitor visa fee is £135; longer-validity visitor visas (2, 5 and 10 years) cost more. There is no Immigration Health Surcharge for a standard visit visa. On top of the government fee you pay the VFS service charge in the UAE, and any optional add-ons such as priority processing or a premium lounge. Applying step by step from Dubai
You complete the application on the UK government website, pay online, then book a biometrics appointment at a VFS Global UK visa centre in the UAE.
