Quick answer: the Czech Republic, officially Czechia, accepts Schengen visa applications from UAE residents at VFS Global visa application centres in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, but using VFS is voluntary. VFS Global’s own Czech page says the applicant’s decision to apply through VFS is voluntary and that applicants have the right to visit the embassy directly. In practice the embassy accepts direct applications only from named categories, such as family members of EU citizens. The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Abu Dhabi decides every application; there is no Czech consulate in Dubai.
People search for “Czech Republic” while official sources increasingly say “Czechia”. Both mean the same country, and the visa is the same. Czechia is the official short name, and our own page on the Czechia visa from Dubai uses the official short name.
Three parties are involved. The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Abu Dhabi examines the file and makes the decision. VFS Global operates the Czech Visa Application Centres in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, where you submit documents and give fingerprints and a photograph. And you, who must choose between two lawful routes: the visa centre, or a direct application at the embassy if you are in one of the eligible groups.
Last checked: 2 October 2026, against the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Abu Dhabi visa pages and the VFS Global Czech Republic UAE page. Fees, hours and procedures change, so confirm them on the booking page.
VFS Global’s Czech page advises submitting at the Czech Republic Visa Application Centre in Dubai or Abu Dhabi. In Dubai, VFS runs its large joint Schengen centre in Wafi Mall, Umm Hurair 2, moved within the mall to Phase 5 Horus, first floor, in March 2025. In Abu Dhabi the VFS centres operate at The Mall, World Trade Centre, Level B2. The text of the Czech pages we could read did not give a street address for either centre, so use the address on your booking confirmation.
The embassy itself is at Marina Village, Villa A-09, Breakwater, Abu Dhabi. It receives the public by appointment from Monday to Friday, 10:00 to 15:00, and visa collection takes place on Mondays and Thursdays from 14:00 to 15:00. Those collection hours apply to applications lodged at the embassy, which is a different matter from collecting a passport at VFS.
The embassy’s visa page says applicants submit Schengen applications at visa centres. Only family members of EU citizens, holders of diplomatic or service passports, members of official delegations, and persons travelling in urgent humanitarian situations may apply directly at the consulate. To apply directly you schedule an appointment by emailing the embassy’s consular address, AbuDhabi.Consulate@mzv.gov.cz.
This is a real difference from most Schengen countries in the UAE, where the visa centre is the only route. The rule that matters is that “voluntary” does not mean “open to everyone”: if you are not in a named category, you use VFS. If you are a family member of an EU citizen, you should not need to pay a commercial service fee, so read the embassy page before you book.
Apply to Czechia if it is where you will spend the longest part of the trip, or the first country you enter if stays are equal. The “approachable consulate” reputation does not change the rule. Our guide on which Schengen country has the fastest appointment explains why applying to a different country for speed leads to refusals.
The VFS Czech page states that you must apply in person for biometric enrolment and that travel insurance is mandatory for all Schengen countries. Use our Schengen visa documents checklist for the standard file, and the Czech embassy checklist for your category as the final word.
Choose Dubai or Abu Dhabi and your visa category. Book one appointment per applicant. VFS states that you can submit no earlier than six months and generally no later than 15 days before your journey.
Take the printed form, the appointment letter and the full file. Fees are paid in dirhams.
On 2 October 2026 the VFS Global Czech page listed, for most short-term visa categories, a visa fee of AED 385, AED 192 for children aged 6 to 12 and no fee under 6, plus a VFS service fee of AED 111.19. VFS says all fees are non-refundable, and that fees charged by the embassy or VFS are based on the current exchange rate and may change without notice. The embassy states that visa fees are collected on submission by card or in cash in dirhams. We cite these amounts as listed on that date; check the live page before you pay.
VFS Global’s Czech page states that a decision is taken within 15 calendar days, which may in individual cases be extended to 30 days and, exceptionally, 60 days. That is the published rule, not a promise for your file. Add the appointment wait and a margin for extra document requests, as the embassy holds your passport until it decides. Our guide on how far in advance to book a Schengen appointment in Dubai gives a sensible timeline.
Our guide to what happens at a VFS biometrics appointment in Dubai describes a typical visit. Leave large bags and laptops at home, since VFS centres commonly restrict them, and follow any instruction on your appointment letter.
The embassy runs separate processes for long-stay national visas and employment visas. Our Czechia visa page covers the categories, and the embassy’s page is the place to check how appointments for those are requested, because for some categories the embassy takes requests by email with a prescribed subject line, and capacity can be small. Do not assume the short-stay booking steps apply.
The embassy decides how many appointments exist; VFS operates the booking page. Use the whole six month window and check at different times of day for cancellations. Our guide on no Schengen appointments available in Dubai lists the legitimate options, how the VFS waitlist works explains waitlists where a country offers one, and whether VFS Prime Time is worth it covers the paid out-of-hours slots.
We are not VFS or the Czech embassy, and we cannot promise an appointment or a visa. An agency can check your main destination, build a consistent file and watch the calendar for you; see visa appointment booking in Dubai. If you qualify for the direct embassy route, you may not need an agency or VFS for the submission at all.
This guide is part of our embassies, consulates and visa centres in Dubai and Abu Dhabi hub, which lists every country guide in one place.
Both refer to the same country. Czechia is the official short name, but the visa is the same Schengen short-stay visa whichever name you search.
Yes. VFS runs Czech Republic Visa Application Centres in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, although its own page says using VFS is voluntary.
Only if you fall within the categories the embassy names: family members of EU citizens, holders of diplomatic or service passports, official delegations, and urgent humanitarian cases. Others use the visa centre.
No. The Embassy of the Czech Republic is in Abu Dhabi, at Marina Village, Villa A-09, Breakwater, and it decides all UAE applications.
The VFS Czech page listed AED 111.19 on 2 October 2026, alongside a visa fee of AED 385 for most short-term categories. Fees follow the exchange rate and can change.
VFS states a decision within 15 calendar days, extendable to 30 and exceptionally to 60. Treat that as the published rule and apply well in advance.
