Quick answer: Premium and prime time services are real and can be worth paying for, but only for comfort and convenience, not for availability. They do not create appointment slots, they do not speed up the consulate decision, and they do not improve your chances of approval. If someone is selling you a paid service on the promise of a guaranteed date or a faster outcome, that is a warning sign.

What these services actually are

VFS offers optional paid extras in the UAE, marketed as a faster, more convenient and more comfortable application experience. Depending on the country these can include premium lounge handling, prime time appointments outside standard hours, document collection or courier return, form filling assistance, and SMS updates. For France in the UAE, for example, there are collection from home style options alongside premium services.

What they genuinely give you

  • A calmer, quicker visit. Shorter waiting, dedicated counters, a more comfortable environment.
  • Out of hours slots in some cases. Prime time can mean appointment windows outside the normal working day, useful if you cannot take leave.
  • Logistics handled. Courier return of the passport saves a second trip, which genuinely matters if your centre is in another emirate. For France that is Abu Dhabi, so this is worth real money to a Dubai resident.
  • Fewer avoidable errors where assistance is included.

What they absolutely do not do

  • They do not create appointment availability. The consulate decides how many slots exist. Paying more does not add capacity to a full calendar.
  • They do not speed up the decision. Processing can take up to 15 days, and longer in busy periods, regardless of what you paid the service provider.
  • They do not raise your approval chances. The consulate assesses your documents and circumstances. A premium lounge is invisible to that assessment.
  • They are not a fast track visa. There is no paid queue jump on the decision itself.

So should you pay?

Our honest view, case by case:

Probably worth it if: your centre is in a different emirate and courier return saves you a full second day; you genuinely cannot attend during standard working hours; you are travelling with elderly parents or small children and the waiting environment matters; or the time saved is worth more to you than the fee.

Probably not worth it if: you are buying it because you think it improves approval odds or gets an earlier appointment. It does neither. Spend that money and energy on getting the documents right instead, because that is what actually decides the outcome.

The scam to watch for

There is a meaningful difference between an official paid service from the visa application centre and a third party promising a guaranteed appointment date for cash. The first is legitimate. The second usually is not, because if a slot does not exist, nobody can sell it to you. Be especially careful with anyone guaranteeing approval, which no honest provider can promise, since only the consulate decides.

Frequently asked questions

Does VFS premium get me an earlier appointment?

No. Premium and prime time services improve comfort and convenience. They do not create appointment slots. The consulate controls how many appointments exist.

Does paying for premium speed up my visa decision?

No. Processing times are set by the consulate, typically up to 15 days and longer in busy periods, regardless of the service tier you paid the centre.

Does premium service improve my chances of approval?

No. The consulate assesses your documents and circumstances. The service level you bought at the centre plays no part in the decision.

When is premium actually worth paying for?

When it saves you real time or a second trip, for example courier passport return when your centre is in another emirate, or out of hours slots if you cannot take leave.

Someone offered me a guaranteed appointment date for a fee. Is that legitimate?

Treat it with strong suspicion. Official paid services from the visa centre are legitimate. A third party guaranteeing a specific date, or guaranteeing approval, is not something anyone can honestly deliver.
