Quick answer: Tanzanian citizens need a Schengen visa for short stays. If you live in the UAE you apply here, through the visa centre or consulate of the country where you will spend the most nights. The strongest files show stable UAE work or business, a bank history that matches your salary and a simple trip plan with a clear return. Start with the document checklist generator.

Tanzanians in the UAE come from Dar es Salaam, Arusha, Dodoma and Zanzibar, and work in hospitality, retail, logistics, beauty, security and small business. Europe trips usually mean a holiday, a family event, a conference or a short course. This guide covers what a Tanzanian passport holder living in the Emirates needs to know, written around how UAE visa centres actually work.

Who can apply in the UAE with a Tanzanian passport

You can apply here if you are a legal UAE resident with a valid residence visa and Emirates ID. Consulates ask for proof that you live in the country where you apply, and they want to see that your residence will still be valid after you return. If your residence visa is close to expiry, renew it first. Our guide to residence visa validity for Schengen shows the margin to aim for.

Your passport should be valid for at least three months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen area, be less than ten years old and have free pages. If you also plan to renew a Tanzanian passport, do that before you apply, not during.

Your destination decides the centre

A Tanzanian applicant applies to the country with the longest stay, or to the first entry country when stays are equal. Then the logistics follow that country. A few verified examples for UAE residents:

DestinationPractical point
FranceNo visa centre in Dubai. VFS lists Abu Dhabi for the whole UAE.
SpainUses BLS International, not VFS: I Rise Tower in Barsha Heights (Tecom), Dubai, and Tamouh Tower on Al Reem Island, Abu Dhabi.
ItalyThe Dubai centre serves only Dubai and the Northern Emirates.
GermanyRuns a waitlist and splits Dubai and Northern Emirates from Abu Dhabi and Al Ain.

If you plan several trips in a year, think about entry type and validity from the start. Our guide to multiple entry Schengen visas explains how consulates decide, and the 90/180 day calculator keeps you inside the limit.

What a convincing Tanzanian file contains

Income and employment

Bring an employer letter and NOC that name your role, salary and approved dates, plus three to six months of payslips or salary credits. The wording matters, so see the employment letter and NOC guide. Business owners and freelancers should read the trade licence guide and the freelancer guide.

Funds that tell a believable story

Money sent from family or lump sums paid in just before the application can raise questions. Show where funds came from. Our guide to bank statements and balances explains what looks normal. If your income is limited, read the sponsor route and the sponsor letter guide before you rely on someone else’s money.

A plan with proof

Write a short cover letter, match your itinerary to your leave, and prepare accommodation proof. Insurance must meet the Schengen minimum, see the insurance guide.

After you submit

You give fingerprints at your first application. Read what happens at biometrics so you are ready. Standard decisions can take up to 15 calendar days and sometimes longer, so keep flights flexible. Follow progress with our tracking and passport collection guide.

If a refusal arrives, read the reason before you act. The codes are explained in our refusal code guide. Weak ties are the most common issue, covered in refused for weak ties.

Frequently asked questions

Can Tanzanian citizens apply for a Schengen visa in the UAE?

Yes, if you are a legal UAE resident with a valid residence visa and Emirates ID. Tanzanian passport holders need a visa for short Schengen stays.

Which country should I apply to?

The country where you will spend the most nights. If the stay is split equally, apply to the country of first entry.

Is there one Schengen visa centre for the UAE?

No. The centre depends on the country, and in some cases on your emirate. France, Spain, Italy and Germany all work differently.

What is the most common problem in a Tanzanian file?

Unexplained funds and weak proof of your life in the UAE. Consistent salary records, an employer letter and a clear itinerary solve most of it.

Does Visa Doctor charge for the first consultation?

No. The first consultation is free, and we tell you honestly where you stand before you pay anything.
