Quick answer: The US Embassy is in Abu Dhabi and the US Consulate General is in Dubai. Both have a consular section for visa interviews, and you can only enter with a scheduled appointment, so there is no walk-in. You book the interview through the official US visa appointment system for the UAE, not through the embassy gate or by email. The US Mission releases nonimmigrant appointments every Friday morning between 7:30 and 11:30 UAE time. As of the State Department update of 17 September 2026, the next B1/B2 visitor interview was about 11.5 months away in Dubai and 12.5 months away in Abu Dhabi. Visa Doctor is not the embassy and does not issue visas, but we watch the appointment system for earlier slots, with appointments in about 7 working days, agreed in writing, and our service fee refunded if we miss it.
People search for the “US embassy Dubai” all the time, but the embassy is in the capital. Both offices are listed on the US Mission UAE contact page.
The Dubai consulate is what most people mean by the “US embassy in Dubai”. Both offices handle visa interviews, and the two posts publish separate wait times, so compare them before you book.
The consular entrance is on Al Seef Road. The embassy says the nearest walkable metro station is Burjuman, and taxis can drop you at the consular entrance. There is no parking on the grounds and public parking nearby is limited.
There is no parking on the embassy grounds, but the embassy says there is plenty of public paid parking close by. That includes a small lot directly across the street from the consular section entrance and two larger lots further along Al-Safarat Street.
We have not found a published opening time for the visa section on the official pages, so we will not quote one. What matters more: you must not arrive more than 15 minutes before your appointment, and you are let in only at your appointment time. Check the US Mission UAE visa page for the latest notices before you travel.
For visas, the consular sections interview applicants and make the decision. They do not take walk-ins, and an appointment is not something you can arrange at the entrance. Booking and account questions go to the appointment system’s customer service, which the embassy lists for UAE callers on +971 4 205 5981 and by email at support-uae@usvisascheduling.com, Monday to Friday, 9:00 to 17:00 UAE time.
The US Mission also states that nonimmigrant applicants should schedule at the embassy or consulate in their country of residence or nationality. UAE residents will normally apply here, but a person who holds another nationality may have another legitimate option, which we cover in our urgent USA visa from Dubai guide.
If you are a US citizen who needs a passport, a notarial service or emergency help, you do not use the visa system. The mission points American citizens to its US Citizen Services Navigator on ae.usembassy.gov/services, where you choose Abu Dhabi or Dubai and the team replies by email with instructions. Emergency numbers are the same as the office phones above, +971 2 414 2200 for Abu Dhabi and +971 4 309 4000 for Dubai.
This is the part most agency pages skip, so read it carefully.B1/B2 and student visa appointments are available in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.B1/B2 and student visa appointments are available in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The mission’s security alert of 1 August 2026 says limited nonimmigrant visa appointments are available and that all immigrant visa services remain suspended.
In plain terms, the posts are open and releasing nonimmigrant appointments at limited volume, immigrant visa services are stopped, and no resumption date has been published. Check the official visa page and the alerts page before you spend money.
The visa interview appointment is booked through the official US visa appointment system for the UAE, which the embassy links from its visa page (ustraveldocs.com/ae for information and usvisascheduling.com for your account). The order is the same for most visitors.
Nobody at the embassy gate, and no agency, can create an appointment outside this system. Our guide on how to spot a fake visa agent in Dubai explains the warning signs.
The embassy and consulate release nonimmigrant interview appointments every Friday morning between 7:30 and 11:30 UAE time, except on US and UAE holidays. If you already hold an appointment, you can sign in at any time and move to an earlier one if a date has opened. Our guide to rescheduling a US visa appointment in Dubai walks through the steps.
The US Department of State publishes estimated wait times for each post on its Global Visa Wait Times page, which it updates monthly. In the update of 17 September 2026, the next available B1/B2 visitor visa interview was about 11.5 months away in Dubai and about 12.5 months away in Abu Dhabi. The State Department treats these as estimates, not guarantees. We copy each monthly update into our US visa appointment wait time tracker for the UAE, with archived copies of the official page, so you can see how the numbers move.
Everyone who enters must show a photo ID to security. The embassy says you may bring your documents in a folder or envelope, an empty water bottle, and any equipment needed for the care of small children. In practice most applicants carry:
Our US visa interview preparation guide covers the questions.
This is where applicants lose their slot. According to the embassy’s visitor instructions for both Abu Dhabi and Dubai, the following are prohibited and will not be allowed in:
There is storage at the security checkpoint for small electronic items such as mobile phones, but none for bags or larger electronics. If you arrive with a bag or a laptop, you can be refused entry, and the embassy warns it cannot guarantee another appointment soon. Leave bags and laptops at home or in the car.
Since 1 September 2025, children of all ages must attend the interview in every visa category, including renewals, and are no longer covered by the Interview Waiver Program. Parents or legal guardians of applicants under 18 may enter with them, as may a person helping an elderly or disabled applicant. The embassy says a visit can last up to three hours, with no amenities for children.
We are not the embassy, the consulate or the appointment system, and we do not issue visas or decide anything. What we do is watch the official system closely, including the Friday release and the slots that open when other applicants reschedule or cancel, and book the earliest confirmed date we can reach for you. We also prepare your DS-160 and supporting file so a good slot is not wasted.
Our target is an appointment in about 7 working days from the day you instruct us. The timeframe is agreed with you in writing, and our service fee is refunded if we do not secure the appointment in that time. We never promise a visa, because the consular officer decides every case on the day.
