Yemeni families and professionals have lived in the UAE for decades, and many apply for UK visit visas to see relatives, attend graduations, travel for medical care or take a holiday. The UK treats Yemen as a visa required nationality, and decision makers look carefully at where an applicant lives, how they earn money and why they will go home. This guide walks through the process for a Yemeni citizen with a UAE residence permit and highlights the points where files tend to weaken.
Most visitors apply for a Standard Visitor visa, which covers tourism, family visits and many short business activities. You complete the form on the official UK government website and pay the fee shown there. Fees and visa durations are set by the UK government and change, so check the current figures before you pay. Our United Kingdom visa page gives the service overview, and the visa cost calculator helps you budget.
After the form you book a biometric appointment at the UK visa application centre that serves the UAE. You give fingerprints and a photograph, and you upload or hand over your supporting documents as instructed. Keep your reference number safe, because you will need it to track the case. Our guide to tracking a UK visa application from the UAE explains what each status means.
Processing times vary by season and by case. Do not buy flights until the passport comes back with the visa, and read the vignette carefully on receipt. Similar guides for other nationalities, such as Iraqi, Jordanian and Nepali citizens, follow the same steps.
The UK does not publish a rigid checklist for visitors, but it expects you to prove identity, residence, funds and purpose. For a Yemeni citizen living in the UAE, the most useful documents are these.
| Evidence | What it shows | Tip |
|---|---|---|
| Passport and old passports | Identity and travel history | Include previous passports that contain UK, Schengen or US visas |
| UAE residence permit and Emirates ID | Lawful residence and the right to return | Make sure the permit is valid well beyond your return date |
| Employment letter and payslips | Stable income and a reason to go back | Dates and job title should match the application |
| Bank statements | Funds for the trip | Show a normal pattern, avoid unexplained deposits |
| Trip plan and accommodation | A genuine visit | Provide dates, address and who pays for what |
| Family documents | Ties to the UAE | Marriage and birth certificates, with translations where needed |
Our guide to UK visa bank statement requirements explains how many months to show and what the caseworker looks for. If you are visiting family in the UK, a short invitation letter from your host helps, but it never replaces your own evidence of ties and funds. For general paperwork help, our document checklist generator builds a list that fits your situation.
The UK refuses visitor applications when the caseworker is not satisfied about genuine visitor intent, or about funds, or when documents appear unreliable. For applicants living outside their country of nationality, the most frequent weakness is a thin explanation of ties to the UAE: a recent job, a short lease, no family living with you, or a bank account that suddenly fills up. Another is an inconsistent story about the purpose of the trip. A third is a previous refusal that was not declared honestly. All of this is covered in our post on why UK visit visas are refused from Dubai and how to reapply.
If you have been refused anywhere, tell the truth on the form and read what to do after a refusal. A Schengen refusal can also raise questions in later UK applications, as discussed in how a Schengen refusal affects UK and US visas, and you should understand how refusals affect future applications in general.
A Standard Visitor visa allows a stay of up to six months at a time, but you should only request the dates you genuinely need. Longer validity visas exist, yet each entry must still be a genuine visit. The UK is not part of the Schengen area, so a UK visa does not let you enter Europe, and you can compare it with our passport travel index when planning a multi country trip. If you plan to visit Ireland as well, check its separate requirements on our Ireland visa page. If you hold or plan to apply for other visas, our US visa page explains that process as well.

Yes. Yemeni passport holders need a visa before travelling to the UK, even for a short visit, and a UAE residence permit does not change that.
Yes, if you are lawfully resident in the UAE. You apply online and attend biometrics at the UK visa application centre that serves the UAE.
There is no single official figure. The caseworker wants to see that you can pay for the trip and your commitments at home, so show a normal, explainable pattern of income and savings.
A previous visa that you used correctly shows that you respect the rules, so it supports your case, but every application is decided separately.
Read the refusal reasons, correct the real weakness, and reapply only when something material has changed. Do not resubmit the same file.
