GOV.UK lists a processing time of 3 weeks for UK visitor, student and skilled work visas applied for from outside the UK, which includes applications made in the UAE, and 12 weeks for partner, parent, child and adult dependent relative visas. Home Office data show that 99.7% of straightforward standard visitor visa applications made worldwide in January to March 2026 were decided within that standard, and applicants who pay £500 for priority or £1,000 for super priority are usually decided within 5 working days or by the end of the next working day.

When the clock starts and stops
- The clock starts when you either attend your visa application centre appointment to give fingerprints and a photograph, or verify your identity and submit your documents through the UK Immigration: ID Check app, if you are told you can use it.
- It stops when UK Visas and Immigration sends a letter or email saying a decision has been made.
- The time spent waiting for a visa application centre appointment in Dubai or Abu Dhabi is not part of the published processing time.
- Applications can take longer if information needs checking, more evidence is needed, an interview is required, or demand is high. GOV.UK says you will be contacted within the processing time if yours will take longer.
- GOV.UK advises that you should not book travel until you have a decision, and that UKVI will not reimburse travel costs if an application is refused or delayed.

Every family member applying together must pay for the faster service separately. GOV.UK says decisions can still take longer where the Home Office needs more information or checks with other departments, and that the fee is not usually refunded in that case.

How often the Home Office meets its standard
The Home Office publishes, each quarter, the share of straightforward applications decided within the service standard. The data are published by route, not by the country where the application was made, so the figures below cover all applications made outside the UK, worldwide. The latest complete cohort is January to March 2026, published on 27 August 2026. The Home Office marks these figures as provisional because of a data issue it is investigating.

Two things stand out. Visitor visas were almost always decided on time, on every service level. Student visas slipped in early 2026, with 85.7% of priority student applications decided within 5 working days compared with 99.0% a year earlier, so students applying close to a course start date should allow more time than the headline figure.

Fees rose on 8 April 2026. The Home Office has already published the next fee table, taking effect on 8 October 2026, and it shows no change to any of the fees below.

Student, work and family visas lasting more than six months usually also carry the Immigration Health Surcharge: £1,035 a year for most applicants and £776 a year for students, their dependants, Youth Mobility Scheme applicants and applicants under 18. What this means for UAE residents
- You can apply for a Standard Visitor visa up to 3 months before you travel, so the 3 week standard leaves room for a decision well before most trips.
- Count the visa application centre appointment separately. The published time only starts once your biometrics are taken.
- If your passport is eligible for an electronic travel authorisation instead of a visa, GOV.UK says you will usually get a decision within a day, though it can take up to 3 working days. It costs £20.

- A faster service buys a faster decision, not a different one. The same rules and the same evidence apply at every service level.
No agency, including Visa Doctor, can influence a Home Office decision or promise an approval. What careful preparation does is reduce the delays GOV.UK itself lists: inaccurate information, missing evidence of funds and documents that need verifying.
Planning a UK trip from the UAE: a realistic timeline
- Up to 3 months before travel: apply online on GOV.UK and pay the fee. You cannot apply earlier than that.
- Straight after applying: book the biometrics appointment at VFS Global in Dubai or Abu Dhabi. Only then does the processing clock start.
- Appointment day: prove your identity, give fingerprints and a photo and hand over your documents. You get your passport back on the same day.
- About 3 weeks later: expect the decision by email. If you applied successfully after 1 July 2026, check your eVisa in your UKVI account before you fly.

- Processing times were copied on 23 September 2026 from GOV.UK’s Visa processing times: applications outside the UK page, last updated 9 September 2026. We show the categories most relevant to UAE residents; the page lists more.
- Performance figures come from table VSI_02 in the Home Office file Visas, status and immigration data: April to June 2026, part of the migration transparency data collection. We used rows with leave type LTE (leave to enter, meaning applications made outside the UK) for January to March 2026, the latest quarter the Home Office reports as a complete cohort, and the same quarter of 2025. The percentage is the Home Office’s own: straightforward applications decided within the service standard, divided by all straightforward applications in that cohort.
- Fees come from the Home Office fee tables published on GOV.UK: 8 April 2026 and 8 October 2026, and from the GOV.UK pages on the Immigration Health Surcharge and faster decisions.
- No UAE breakdown. The Home Office does not publish processing performance by the country where an application was made, so no UAE only figure exists. The published processing times apply to every application made outside the UK.
