In 2026 the government fee for a standard short visitor visa, for a UAE resident who needs one, is EUR 90 for the Schengen area, £135 for the UK, USD 185 for the US, CAD 100 plus CAD 85 for biometrics for Canada, AUD 250 for Australia and about JPY 15,000 for Japan, while the Chinese Consulate General in Dubai charges AED 102 for a single entry visa for most nationalities. These are the official government fees only, and visa centre service charges, insurance and, for longer UK stays, the health surcharge are paid on top.

Whether you need a visa at all depends on your passport, not on your UAE residence. Several of these countries let certain nationalities travel visa free or with an electronic authorisation instead; the UK and Canada sections below list the fees for those authorisations.

The EUR 90 and EUR 45 fees were set by Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2024/1415, which amended the EU Visa Code and has applied since 11 June 2024. The waivers listed are the mandatory ones in Article 16(4) of the Visa Code; consulates may also waive or reduce the fee in other cases. Where a visa centre such as VFS Global or BLS collects the application, Article 17(4) caps its service fee at half the standard visa fee, so EUR 45, with limited exceptions for countries where the state has no consulate. The Home Office fee table for 8 October 2026 lists no change to any of these amounts. Student and work visas of more than six months usually also carry the Immigration Health Surcharge, £1,035 a year for most applicants and £776 a year for students and applicants under 18. Public Law 119-21, approved on 4 July 2025, created a separate visa integrity fee of at least USD 250, payable by nonimmigrant visa applicants at the time a visa is issued and adjusted for inflation from fiscal year 2026. The State Department’s fee page did not list it when we checked on 23 September 2026, so it is not in the table above; confirm the current position before you pay. The Ministry says fees are paid in the local currency of the country where the embassy or consulate issuing the visa is located, so applicants in the UAE pay the dirham equivalent. Fees can differ or be waived depending on nationality and purpose, and no fee is charged if a visa is not issued.

The consulate says these reduced fees apply until 31 December 2026, that an express service costs AED 90 more per visa, and that payment is by Visa or Mastercard only. Its notice also lists separate rates for Romanian, Argentine, Brazilian and Panamanian citizens.
What these fees do not include
- Service fees charged by visa application centres, which are separate from the government fee.
- Travel medical insurance, which is compulsory for a Schengen visa.
- The UK Immigration Health Surcharge on longer student, work and family visas.
- Optional premium services, such as UK priority processing or centre lounges.
- Translation, attestation, photographs and courier costs.
Paying a fee, to a government or to an agency, pays for an application to be considered. It does not buy or promise an approval.
Methodology
- We took each fee from the issuing government’s own website or legislation and recorded the currency in which that government publishes it. We did not convert currencies, because consulates set their own local currency rates and change them from time to time.
- Where a government publishes fees for many categories, we show the categories most requested by UAE residents: visitor, student and main work routes.
- UK fees come from the Home Office fee table effective 8 April 2026, cross checked against the table effective 8 October 2026. US fees come from the State Department fee page and the ICE SEVIS page. Canadian fees come from the IRCC fee list. Australian charges come from the compiled Migration Regulations in force from 1 July 2026, because the Home Affairs visa pages load their prices from a calculator rather than printing them. Japanese fees come from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs notice dated 24 June 2026. Chinese fees come from the fee table attached to the Dubai consulate notice of 26 December 2025.

The Schengen visa fee is EUR 90 for adults and EUR 45 for children aged 6 to 11, and children under 6 pay nothing. The visa centre’s service fee is charged on top and is capped by the EU Visa Code at half the standard visa fee, EUR 45, with limited exceptions.
How much is a UK visit visa from Dubai in 2026?
A Standard Visitor visa for up to 6 months costs £135 from 8 April 2026. Long-term visitor visas cost £506 for 2 years, £903 for 5 years and £1,128 for 10 years. Priority processing costs £500 extra and super priority £1,000 extra.
How much is a US visa fee in the UAE?
The US government fee for a B1/B2 visitor visa is USD 185, the same as for F and M student visas. Petition based work visas cost USD 205. F and M students also pay a USD 350 SEVIS fee. A separate USD 250 visa integrity fee exists in US law but was not listed on the State Department fee page on 23 September 2026.
Did Japan raise its visa fees in 2026?
Yes. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan says that from 1 July 2026 the fee is about JPY 15,000 for a single entry visa and about JPY 30,000 for a multiple entry visa, paid in the local currency of the country where you apply. No fee is charged if the visa is not issued.
Are visa fees refunded if the visa is refused?
Usually not. The EU Visa Code says the Schengen visa fee is not refundable except in narrow cases, and GOV.UK says the UK application fee is not refunded if an application is refused. Japan is an exception: its Ministry of Foreign Affairs says no fee is charged if a visa is not issued.
