US Visa (B1/B2) for Filipino Citizens from Dubai: 2026 Guide

Who this guide is for

This is for Filipino citizens who hold a valid UAE residence visa, including OFWs, professionals, and family-visa holders based in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah or the northern emirates, who want to visit the United States for tourism (B2), to see family, or for business meetings and conferences (B1). Applying as a UAE resident is often more straightforward than applying in the Philippines, because you can demonstrate stable Gulf employment, salary transfers into a UAE account, and a residence record the consular officer can verify.

Can Filipino residents of the UAE apply from Dubai or Abu Dhabi?

Yes. US consular posts allow third-country nationals to apply where they are legally resident. As a Filipino with a valid Emirates ID and UAE residence visa, you can schedule your interview at the US Mission in the UAE rather than travelling home. You should be prepared for the officer to ask why you are applying here rather than in the Philippines. The honest, correct answer is simply that you live and work in the UAE, and you should have your residence documents ready to prove it.

Bear in mind that third-country applicants can sometimes face longer interview-slot waits, and the officer holds you to the same standard as any other applicant: you must convince them you will return. Being a long-term, employed UAE resident works strongly in your favour.

Which do you need, B1 or B2?

The B2 category covers tourism, holidays, visiting relatives, and medical treatment. The B1 category covers legitimate short business activity such as meetings, negotiations, conferences and training, but it does not extend to taking up employment. The fees and one change to watch

The core cost is the MRV (Machine Readable Visa) application fee of $185, paid before your interview and non-refundable whether or not the visa is granted. Separately, a $250 Visa Integrity Fee was created by US legislation signed in 2025. As of mid-2026 the State Department had not yet issued full implementation guidance to embassies, so there may still be changes to exactly when and how it will be charged, and to whom. What documents to bring to the interview

US interviews are led by conversation, not paperwork. Strong documents still back up your answers if the officer asks. Bring your Philippine passport, Emirates ID and UAE residence visa, DS-160 confirmation, MRV fee receipt, and your interview appointment letter. Support your ties to the UAE with an employer letter or NOC, and recent salary certificates (bank statements are not required, but keep a few months of UAE statements handy in case the officer asks). The interview: how to prepare

The consular officer decides in minutes, mostly on whether you have convinced them you will return to the UAE and can afford the trip. Answer briefly, truthfully and consistently with your DS-160. If you get 221(g) or a refusal

Not every non-approval is a rejection. A 221(g) means your case is on hold pending more documents or administrative processing, and you are usually told what to submit. A 214(b) refusal means the officer was not satisfied you overcame the presumption of immigrant intent; you can reapply when your circumstances or evidence are stronger, paying the MRV fee again.
