UAE Golden Visa or European Golden Visa: Which One Lets You Travel to Schengen Without a Visa?

Many UAE residents hold a UAE Golden Visa and are surprised to learn they still need a Schengen visa for every trip to Europe. The name is the same, but the two permits do very different things. This guide explains the difference in plain terms, compares the costs and helps you decide which one fits your travel.

What the UAE Golden Visa does

The UAE Golden Visa is a long term UAE residence visa, usually issued for 10 years to investors, entrepreneurs, skilled professionals and their families. It gives you secure residence in the UAE. For Schengen travel it is a strong supporting document, because it shows long, stable ties to the UAE, but the Schengen visa requirement depends on your passport, not your UAE residence. What a European golden visa does

A European golden visa is a residence permit issued by a European country to investors. When the country is in the Schengen Area, the residence card itself lets you travel to the other Schengen countries without a visa for up to 90 days in any 180. You still keep your UAE residence and your own passport.
