Quick answer: You do not apply for a Spain visa at an embassy in Dubai. The Embassy of Spain is in Abu Dhabi and decides visas, while BLS International runs the Spain visa application centres in Dubai (Barsha Heights) and Abu Dhabi (Al Reem Island). You must book your own BLS appointment on the official BLS website, because bookings made by agents or other third parties are not accepted at the centre. This guide covers the practical side of booking, and what to do when no slot shows. Visa Doctor is not an embassy, consulate or visa centre.

Spain embassy Dubai: who does what

Searches for “Spain embassy Dubai” usually mean one of three things: where to submit a visa file, where the embassy is, or how to get a date. They are handled by different bodies.

  • Embassy of Spain, Abu Dhabi: the Spanish mission that decides Spain visa applications from the UAE. The EU consular protection directory lists the Abu Dhabi embassy as Spain’s representation in the UAE, and it does not list a Spanish consulate in Dubai.
  • BLS International: the external service provider that receives applications, takes biometrics and returns passports at its visa application centres. BLS says it has no role in approving or rejecting applications.
  • You: the applicant, who must book the appointment personally.

Addresses and hours

Embassy of Spain in Abu Dhabi

Nº 96 Al Ladeem Street, Al Nahyan Commercial Buildings, P.O. Box 46474, Abu Dhabi. The embassy’s website lists the telephone as +971 2 407 9000 and a visa section email of emb.abudhabi.vis@maec.es. For routine applications you will deal with BLS rather than the embassy counter.

BLS Spain visa application centres

  • Dubai: BLS International Spain Visa Application Centre, I Rise Tower, 27th Floor, Office C-13, Barsha Heights (Tecom), Dubai. BLS also lists a premium lounge in the same tower, 9th Floor, Office C3.
  • Abu Dhabi: BLS International Spain Visa Application Centre, Office 1311, Tamouh Tower, 13th Floor, Marina Square, Al Reem Island, Abu Dhabi.
  • Hours at both: Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 17:00. Application submission is 09:00 to 15:00, and passport collection only is 15:00 to 17:00. The centres are closed on Saturday, Sunday and embassy holidays.

How to book your BLS Spain appointment

This is the part that has changed most. BLS announced a new appointment system in late July 2026, and its official site now states that applicants must book their own appointments directly, without third parties or intermediaries. The system checks during booking that the applicant is booking for themselves, and appointments made through intermediaries are not accepted at the centre. Our earlier post explains the change in detail: BLS stops travel agents booking Spain visa appointments.

  • Step 1. Open the official BLS Spain UAE website at uae.blsspainvisa.com and use its Book Appointment link. Do not use search adverts or messaging groups.
  • Step 2. Register with your own name, passport number and contact details.
  • Step 3. Choose Dubai or Abu Dhabi, your visa category and an available date.
  • Step 4. Save your confirmation and bring it with your passport and documents. The BLS site states that appointments made through its website are free of charge.

Three rules are worth knowing before you click. BLS states that once an appointment is booked, rescheduling is not available: you must cancel the existing appointment and book a new one. It also states that the fees paid online while booking are non-refundable, including after cancellations and no-shows. And spouses of EEA and EU citizens must now schedule appointments rather than walk in. Our guide to walk-in Schengen appointments for EU family members has more.

What to do when no slots are showing

Empty calendars are the most common complaint, and it is where people are most exposed to scams. These steps are all within the rules.

Work out your real deadline

The European Commission says to apply at least 15 days before travel and no earlier than six months in advance. BLS’s tourist visa page advises submitting at least three weeks before travel. If your trip is close, you may need to move your travel date rather than your visa strategy.

Check the official site, and read its banner

BLS uses a notice area on its homepage for operational announcements. Look at it before assuming the system is broken, and use only the official website. We could not find a published schedule for when new slots are released, so be careful with anyone who claims to know one.

Do not cancel a booked slot to try for a better one

Because the only way to change a date is to cancel and rebook, cancelling first can leave you with nothing, and the online BLS fee is not refunded. Treat a booked date as your date unless you truly cannot attend.

Never buy a slot

BLS warns applicants not to buy appointments from third parties, calling it a fraudulent practice, and says its staff never ask for payment to obtain or expedite an appointment. Since the booking is tied to your passport details and checked at booking, a slot sold by someone else is also likely to be refused at the door. Report suspected fraud to antifraud@blsinternational.com. For context on the wider news, see what the Algiers investigation means for UAE applicants.

Do not switch country just to find a date

Schengen visas are meant to be lodged with the state of your main destination. If you are visiting more than one country, read which Schengen country to apply to before changing your plans.

Documents BLS expects for a tourist visa

BLS lists these for a tourist visa from the UAE: a passport with at least two blank pages, the completed application form, a recent photograph, proof of financial means, proof of accommodation, your itinerary and travel insurance. The insurance certificate is mandatory and must cover medical evacuation and repatriation with minimum cover of 30,000 euros. Employer NOCs and salary certificates must be signed and include the signatory’s full name, position and Emirates ID number.

BLS lists a Spain visa fee of AED 388 for most nationalities and a BLS service charge of AED 73 including VAT, payable at the time of application and non-refundable. These are official charges, not agency fees, and they can change, so check the BLS page.

After you apply

BLS’s FAQ says applications typically receive a decision within 15 working days, and complex cases can take up to 45 days. Collect your passport with your receipt and acceptance proof, or send an authorised representative with an authorisation letter and ID copy. BLS also says applicants who applied through its Dubai centres can appeal to the embassy after a rejection letter, once they submit the new requirements, without a prior appointment.

Common mistakes

  • Letting an agent book for you. The appointment will not be accepted.
  • Paying for an appointment. Official booking is free.
  • Booking before documents are ready. A missed document can cost the slot and a repeat fee.
  • An NOC without the signatory’s name, position and Emirates ID number.
  • Buying flights first. Confirm your timing before paying for non-refundable travel.

How Visa Doctor helps

Visa Doctor is a licensed Dubai visa documentation and appointment agency. We are not an embassy, consulate or visa centre. Under the BLS rules above we cannot log in and book your slot for you. What we can do is prepare and check your whole file against the current BLS checklist, explain what to expect, and guide you while you book it yourself, so the slot you win is not wasted. We never promise an outcome, because Spain decides every application. Read our Spain visa from Dubai guide, or see our visa services.

Sources and last checked

Last checked: October 2026, against the BLS Spain UAE website (home, contact, tourist visa and FAQ pages), the Embassy of Spain in Abu Dhabi website, the EU consular protection directory and the European Commission’s Schengen visa application page. We did not find a published slot release schedule, so none is stated here.

This guide is part of our embassies, consulates and visa centres in Dubai and Abu Dhabi hub, which lists every country guide in one place.
