This post exists because the internet is full of misleading advice telling Pakistani travellers they can simply use their UK visa for Ireland. They cannot. Here is the accurate position.
Why the UK-visa shortcut does not apply to you
Ireland operates a Short Stay Visa Waiver Programme that lets certain nationalities travel to Ireland on a UK short-stay visa without a separate Irish visa. The eligible list includes India, China, the Philippines, Türkiye, Saudi Arabia and others, but it does not include Pakistan.
So no matter how valid your UK visit visa is, and no matter that you have landed in London, you still need an Irish visa to enter Ireland. Arriving in Dublin on a UK visa alone will get you refused entry. Full rules: visiting Ireland on a UK visa.
Ireland is not Schengen either
Your Schengen visa does not work for Ireland. Ireland is in the EU but outside the Schengen area, sitting in the Common Travel Area with the UK. A trip covering both Ireland and mainland Europe means two applications.
Applying from the UAE
- Complete the online AVATS application and print the summary.
- Pay the fee, around EUR 60 single entry or EUR 100 multiple entry, plus the VFS charge.
- Submit at VFS Global, Dubai or Abu Dhabi.
- The Embassy of Ireland in Abu Dhabi decides your case.
Budget 4 to 8 weeks, longer in peak periods. Ireland offers no priority or urgent service from the UAE. Start 8 to 10 weeks ahead and do not buy non-refundable tickets.
Documents, and where Pakistani applications fail
- Pakistani passport plus old passports (travel history helps).
- UAE residence visa and Emirates ID with good validity remaining.
- Bank statements6 months, stamped.
- Employment letter / NOC with salary and approved leave, or trade licence.
- Flights, accommodation, day-by-day itinerary.

Pakistani applications are scrutinised closely on funds and intent. The single most common self-inflicted refusal is a large deposit landing days before you apply, it reads as borrowed money. Your UAE residence is your strongest card
Applying as a UAE resident is materially better than applying from Pakistan: a stable job, salary transfers, a tenancy and an ongoing residence visa are exactly the return-intent evidence Irish officers look for. Renew your residence before applying if it is close to expiry.
