It only changes when you are seen for your interview. It does not change how your case is reviewed once you are in front of a consular officer, and it does not improve your chances of approval. How to request an expedited appointment

The process is set out by the US Embassy Abu Dhabi and US Consulate General Dubai and works the same way for both posts.

1. Book a regular non immigrant visa appointment for the closest available date, even if that date is weeks or months away. You cannot request an expedite without first having a scheduled appointment on the books.
2. Sign into your visa scheduling account, click Continue, then select “Request Expedite” and follow the prompts.
3. In the request, state the exact date and purpose of your travel, and explain clearly why the standard appointment date does not work.
4. If your situation involves a denied ESTA or a US Customs and Border Protection message, attach a copy of that correspondence, since it directly supports certain expedite categories.

There is no separate fee to submit the request itself beyond the visa application fee you already pay to book the regular appointment.

What counts as a genuine emergency

Reasons that are usually considered

• A medical emergency involving the applicant or an immediate family member, particularly one requiring treatment in the United States.
• The death or funeral of an immediate family member in the United States.
• Urgent, time sensitive business travel where the date cannot reasonably be moved.
• A university or program start date that falls before the next available appointment slot.

Reasons that are usually not accepted

• Holidays, tourism, weddings, or general family visits, even when flights or hotels are already booked.
• Wanting to travel sooner simply because the wait feels long.
• A trip planned around a date you have not yet purchased tickets for.
