Residents of Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah apply for most travel visas at centres in Dubai, because several embassies group the Northern Emirates with Dubai; Germany and Italy say so explicitly. The main exception is France, which takes every UAE application at VFS Global in Abu Dhabi, and the UK also runs optional paid premium centres in Sharjah and Ajman. Visa Doctor is licensed by Sharjah Publishing City Free Zone and works from Dubai Sports City, so we prepare Northern Emirates files remotely or at our Dubai office.
Visa Doctor FZC (licence 4417571.01) is a visa documentation agency that helps UAE residents with outbound travel visas only. We do not handle UAE residence visas, Emirates ID, golden visas or business setup. This page sets out where Northern Emirates residents apply for the destinations we are asked about most, with an official source for each.

Dubai or Abu Dhabi: how the rules split for the Northern Emirates
Most Northern Emirates residents will apply in Dubai, but the reason differs by country, and it is worth knowing which rule applies to you before you book.
- Germany groups you with Dubai by residence. The German Consulate General says applicants residing in Dubai and the Northern Emirates submit at VFS Global in Dubai, and applicants residing in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain submit in Abu Dhabi. All German visa decisions in the UAE are made by the Consulate General in Dubai.
- Italy looks at the emirate that issued your residence visa. The Italian Embassy in Abu Dhabi says its BLS centre accepts only holders of a UAE visa issued by the Government of Abu Dhabi, and advises residents of Dubai and the Northern Emirates to contact the Consulate General in Dubai, which works through VFS Global in Dubai.
- France sends everyone to Abu Dhabi. France-Visas says all French visa applications in the UAE are handled exclusively by the consular section in Abu Dhabi and lodged at the VFS Global centre there. From Ras Al Khaimah or Fujairah that is a long round trip, so plan a full day.
- The United States lets you compare two posts. The US Mission asks applicants to book at the US Embassy or Consulate in their country of residence or nationality, so a Sharjah resident can compare the Dubai and Abu Dhabi calendars.
For Schengen trips, the country you apply to depends on your main destination, not on the easiest centre to reach. Our guide to the Schengen main destination rule explains how that is decided.
UK premium centres in Sharjah and Ajman
VFS Global lists two UK Premium Application Centres in the Northern Emirates. They are optional, paid alternatives to the standard UK centres in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
- Sharjah: 3rd Floor, Regus Building, near Mega Mall, Al Qasimia. Open on Tuesdays, 10:00 to 17:00. The fee is AED 658, paid online when you book and before you attend.
- Ajman: at the Radisson Blu, on the days shown in the VFS schedule, 11:00 to 14:00.
VFS Global states that choosing a Premium Application Centre has no bearing on the outcome of a visa application, which is decided by UK Visas and Immigration, and does not expedite processing. Customers who do not want the premium centre can book at a standard UK Visa Application Centre instead. Our UK visa documents guide covers what the file itself needs.
US visa interviews for Sharjah and Northern Emirates residents
The US Mission says the Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the Consulate General in Dubai release nonimmigrant interview appointments every Friday morning between 07:30 and 11:30, except on US and UAE holidays, and that existing appointment holders can log in at any time to look for an earlier date.B1/B2 and student visa appointments are available in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
For the Dubai consulate, the Mission gives the address as the corner of Al Seef Road and Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Road. There is no parking at the consulate, the nearest metro station in walking distance is BurJuman, and taxis can drop you at the consular entrance on Al Seef Road. Bags of any size, laptops and tablets are not allowed, and children of all ages must attend in person. See our US appointment scheduling guide for how the calendar works.
Our Sharjah licence and our Dubai office
Visa Doctor FZC holds a trade licence from Sharjah Publishing City Free Zone, licence 4417571.01. Our office, and the place where clients can meet us, is Office 311, Stadium Point, Dubai Sports City, Dubai. We do not have a walk-in office in Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah or Fujairah, and we would rather say so here than let you drive to an address that does not exist. You can read more about Visa Doctor, including who founded the company.
How we work with Northern Emirates clients
Almost everything can be done without a trip to our office:
- Send your documents. Passport, residence visa, Emirates ID, travel dates and any previous refusals, by WhatsApp or email.
- We confirm the right centre. Dubai, Abu Dhabi or a premium centre, based on your destination, your residence and the rule each embassy publishes.
- We prepare the file. Forms, cover letter, checklist and a review of bank statements, employment letters and bookings. See our document preparation service.
- We book the appointment. At the earliest date we can reach, and at a time that works for the drive from your emirate.
- You attend in person. Fingerprints and photos are taken from you directly at the centre or embassy, so you attend yourself. We tell you exactly what to bring.
- We follow up. We help you track the application and respond to any request for further documents.
What we do not do: attend your appointment for you, promise a result, or influence a consulate. The decision belongs to the embassy or consulate. For our full list of destinations, see visa services in Dubai.

Frequently asked questions
Is there a visa application centre in Sharjah?
The UK runs a Premium Application Centre in Sharjah, on the 3rd floor of the Regus building near Mega Mall in Al Qasimia, open on Tuesdays. It carries an AED 658 fee paid online, and the standard UK centres are in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. For most other countries, Sharjah residents apply in Dubai.
Where do Sharjah residents apply for a French visa?
At VFS Global in Abu Dhabi. France-Visas says all French visa applications in the UAE are handled by the consular section in Abu Dhabi, and it names Sharjah, Ajman, Fujairah, Umm Al Quwain and Ras Al Khaimah among the emirates the Abu Dhabi centre serves.
Where do Northern Emirates residents apply for an Italy visa?
Through the Italian Consulate General in Dubai, which works with VFS Global in Dubai. The BLS centre in Abu Dhabi accepts only holders of residence visas issued by the Government of Abu Dhabi.
Do Ajman and Ras Al Khaimah residents apply for a German visa in Dubai?
Yes. The German Consulate General says applicants residing in Dubai and the Northern Emirates submit at VFS Global in Dubai, while Abu Dhabi and Al Ain residents use the Abu Dhabi centre.
Where do Sharjah residents attend a US visa interview?
At the US Consulate General in Dubai or the US Embassy in Abu Dhabi, both part of the US Mission to the UAE. On 17 September 2026 the next available B1/B2 interview was about 11.5 months in Dubai and 12.5 months in Abu Dhabi, and for students about 5 months in Dubai and 0.5 month in Abu Dhabi.
Is Visa Doctor based in Sharjah?
Our trade licence is issued by Sharjah Publishing City Free Zone (licence 4417571.01), but our office is in Dubai: Office 311, Stadium Point, Dubai Sports City. We do not have a walk-in office in Sharjah or the other Northern Emirates, and we handle most files remotely.
Does the Sharjah premium centre speed up a UK visa?
No. VFS Global states that choosing a Premium Application Centre has no bearing on the outcome and does not expedite processing. It only changes where and how you submit your application.
What happens if you cannot book my appointment in the agreed time?
If we agree in writing to book your appointment within a stated time frame and we do not secure it within that time, or the appointment is not made at all, we refund our service fee in full. The refund is tied to scheduling only. It never depends on the visa decision, which belongs to the embassy or consulate, and government and visa centre fees are paid to those bodies, not to us.
