Filipino nationals need a Standard Visitor Visa

For tourism, family visits or business, you apply for the UK Standard Visitor Visa, which permits stays of up to six months. Long-term visitor visas (2, 5 or 10 years) are available for frequent travellers, with each stay still limited to six months. The cheap Electronic Travel Authorisation is not an option for Filipino passport holders.

Applying from the UAE

You complete the application online, pay the fee, and attend a biometrics appointment at a VFS Global centre in Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Sharjah. Your UAE residence visa and Emirates ID establish that you are lawfully based here, which is why you can apply from the Emirates rather than Manila. Make sure your residence visa still has meaningful validity when you apply — a visa expiring within a couple of months weakens your case.

Visiting family in the UK: the sponsorship question

Many Filipino applicants are visiting a sibling, cousin or spouse working in the UK, and that relative offers to cover the costs. This is entirely allowed — but it must be declared and documented. Include the host’s invitation letter, their immigration status, and their bank statements or payslips showing they can genuinely support you. Trying to disguise sponsorship by presenting borrowed funds as your own is the fastest route to a refusal and a credibility finding that follows you into future applications.

The domestic-worker and household-staff situation

If you work in the UAE as a domestic worker, nanny or driver and your employer is taking you to the UK, you may not need a Standard Visitor Visa but rather the appropriate domestic worker route — the requirements and evidence are different, including proof of the existing employment relationship.
