Quick answer: China has an Embassy in Abu Dhabi and a Consulate-General in Dubai (Umm Hurair 1, Bur Dubai), but ordinary passport holders apply through the Chinese Visa Application Service Center at WAFI Mall, Umm Hurair 2, not at the consulate itself. The Dubai centre accepts applications Monday to Friday, with submission from 9:00 to 15:00. Applications start online, and the centre’s own procedure says that once your online review is complete you submit your papers at the centre without a separate appointment. The consulate has also exempted short-term visa applicants from fingerprints until the end of 2026. Visa Doctor helps with document preparation and booking steps, but we are not the embassy or the visa centre and cannot promise a visa.

China embassy Dubai: the offices and what each does

There is no Chinese embassy in Dubai. The embassy is in Abu Dhabi and the consulate-general is in Dubai. For a normal tourist or business visa you will use neither building. You will use the visa centre.

Consulate-General of China in Dubai

The consulate’s website lists its address as 8th Street, Umm Hurair 1, Bur Dubai, with a telephone number of 00971 4 394 4733. The consulate covers Dubai and the northern emirates. It states that applicants for diplomatic, official or courtesy visas should submit applications directly to the consulate, while ordinary passport holders use the visa centre.

Embassy of China, Abu Dhabi

The embassy is at Plot No. 26, Sector W-22, Al Khallej Al Arabi Street, Abu Dhabi. Its consular enquiry hotline changed on 22 June 2026 to +971 2 448 1907, and its consular email is abu-dhabi@csm.mfa.gov.cn. Its office hours page lists Monday to Friday, 8:30 to 13:00, and says the embassy closes on UAE and Chinese holidays.

Chinese Visa Application Service Center, Dubai

This is the place most applicants visit. The centre’s contact page gives the address as WAFI Mall, Umm Hurair 2, Dubai (it lists the ground floor, Phase 5, Horus, Unit 548, while the consulate’s site describes a different wing of the same mall, so check the centre’s page for the exact entrance before you travel). The listed hours are Monday to Friday, closed on Saturday, Sunday and public holidays. Applications are accepted from 9:00 to 15:00 and collection runs from 9:00 to 16:00. Telephone +971 4 379 5381, email dubai@visaforchina.org. A consulate notice also lists a hotline of +971 4 371 1711.

How the Dubai application process works

The centre handles ordinary passports only. Its own procedure page describes a two stage process:

  • Online application. Create an account on the Dubai visa centre portal, complete the form, upload your passport, photo and supporting documents, and submit. Online payment was not available at the time of the notice, so you pay at the centre.
  • Online review. The centre checks your upload and either asks you to correct something or marks the application as approved for submission. Approved here means ready to submit. It does not mean your visa is granted.
  • Bring everything to the centre. Once you have the “Visa Application Certificate” email, take it and your originals to the centre. The procedure states that no onsite appointment is needed after you receive that email.

The consulate also announced appointment free submission from 20 November 2023, and warned that Mondays, Tuesdays and Friday afternoons are busy. The Chinese embassy in the UAE introduced a China Online Visa Processing System from 30 June 2025 (consular.mfa.gov.cn/VISA), so the exact online route can change. Follow the route shown on the Dubai visa centre homepage on the day you apply.

Biometrics and fingerprints

The Dubai consulate states that from 19 December 2025 to 31 December 2026, fingerprint collection is exempted for all short-term visa applicants staying no longer than 180 days. Fingerprints are still required for categories that need a residence permit after arrival, such as Z, X1, D, J1, Q1 and S1 visas. Because this is a time limited exemption, check the consulate’s visa notices if your application falls near or after the end of 2026.

Do you need a visa at all?

Some UAE residents can skip the visa centre. The embassy’s notice on the unilateral visa free policy lists countries whose ordinary passport holders can enter China without a visa for business, tourism, family visits, transit or exchanges for up to 30 days until 31 December 2026. The list includes France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain and many others, and Sweden from 10 November 2025. If your passport is not on the list, you need a visa. Always read the notice itself, because lists and conditions are revised. If your plan includes Hong Kong or Macau, those are separate systems, and our Hong Kong visa page covers them.

Documents to prepare

The Chinese consulate’s visa guidance lists the main document for a tourist (L) visa as round trip air tickets and hotel bookings, or an invitation letter from a travel agency or an individual in China that includes the traveller’s details, itinerary and the inviter’s details and ID copy. Business (M) visas need a business invitation, such as a trade fair or partner letter. Family visit categories need proof of relationship and the Chinese or permanent resident host’s documents. In practice, UAE residents usually prepare:

  • A passport with at least six months of validity. The centre warns that shorter validity risks refusal or entry problems, and it recommends applying about three months before travel.
  • The completed and printed online form with the confirmation page signed.
  • A recent photo that meets the centre’s rules.
  • Your UAE residence visa and Emirates ID, with copies.
  • Round trip flights, hotel bookings and a clear itinerary, or an invitation letter if you are visiting someone.
  • Employment or income evidence if the centre or consulate asks for it for your category.

What to bring to the visa centre

  • The Visa Application Certificate email printout, if you were issued one, with the signed form.
  • Your original passport and printed supporting documents.
  • Cash or the payment method the centre currently accepts, because online payment was not available at the time of the notice.

The centre’s security rules are strict. It does not allow cameras, laptops or other battery operated gadgets inside, does not permit bags apart from a plastic bag for your papers, and does not allow friends or relatives to accompany applicants. There is no facility to store prohibited items, so arrange that before you arrive.

Common mistakes

  • Going to the consulate in Umm Hurair 1 to apply. Ordinary applications go to the visa centre.
  • Treating the online “approved” status as visa approval. It only means the centre will accept your papers.
  • Arriving after the 15:00 submission cut off or on a public holiday.
  • Choosing the wrong visa category, for example a tourist visa for a business meeting.
  • Leaving too little passport validity or applying right before an Eid or national day closure. The centre has warned that collection dates move after UAE public holidays.
  • Bringing a bag, laptop or phone case full of items the centre will not store.

How Visa Doctor helps

Visa Doctor is a licensed Dubai visa documentation and appointment agency (licence 4417571.01). We are not the Chinese Embassy, the Consulate-General or the Chinese Visa Application Service Center, and we are not a government body. We cannot grant a visa. We help you decide whether you need one, choose the right category, prepare and cross-check the online form and documents, and organise the submission steps so you arrive ready. See our pages on China visas from Dubai, Japan and China visas from Dubai, visa document preparation and visa appointment booking.
