Short answer: Abu Dhabi residents apply for most travel visas in Abu Dhabi: the US Embassy interviews in the capital, VFS Global runs centres at The Mall, World Trade Centre, and BLS International runs the Italy and Spain centres. Italy and Germany send Abu Dhabi residents to Abu Dhabi rather than Dubai, and France takes every UAE application there.

Last checked: 25 September 2026, against France-Visas (United Arab Emirates).

Visa Doctor prepares your file and books your appointment remotely from our Dubai office; we do not have an office in Abu Dhabi, and you attend the appointment yourself.

Visa Doctor is a licensed visa documentation agency (Visa Doctor FZC, Sharjah Publishing City Free Zone licence 4417571.01) that helps UAE residents with outbound travel visas. We do not handle UAE residence visas, Emirates ID, golden visas or business setup. This page lists where Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Al Dhafra residents apply for the destinations people ask us about most, with the official source for each.

Why the emirate on your residence visa matters

Visa rules in the UAE are split by emirate, but countries do not all split them the same way. Italy and Germany both state which applicants each centre accepts, so book at the centre for your own jurisdiction.

  • Italy looks at the emirate that issued your residence visa. The Italian Embassy says BLS International in Abu Dhabi accepts Schengen, business and tourist applications only from holders of a UAE visa issued by the Government of Abu Dhabi. If you live in Abu Dhabi but your residence visa was issued in Dubai, the Embassy points you to the Consulate General in Dubai, which works through VFS Global in Dubai.
  • Germany looks at where you reside. The German Consulate General says applicants residing in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain submit at VFS Global in Abu Dhabi, and applicants residing in Dubai and the Northern Emirates submit at VFS Global in Dubai.
  • France has one centre for the whole country. France-Visas says all French visa applications in the UAE are handled exclusively by the consular section in Abu Dhabi and lodged at the VFS Global centre in Abu Dhabi, including for residents of Dubai and the northern emirates.
  • The United States does not split by emirate. The US Mission asks applicants to book at the US Embassy or Consulate in their country of residence or nationality, so UAE residents can compare the Abu Dhabi and Dubai calendars.

Before you book, check which emirate issued your residence visa and where you actually live, and compare both with the rule for your destination. For Schengen trips, the country you apply to is decided by the main destination rule, explained in our guide to the Schengen main destination rule.

US visas for Abu Dhabi residents

The US Embassy in Abu Dhabi interviews visa applicants directly; there is no separate visa centre for the interview. The US Mission says both the Embassy and the Consulate General in Dubai release nonimmigrant interview appointments every Friday morning between 07:30 and 11:30, except on US and UAE holidays, and that existing appointment holders can log in at any time to look for an earlier date.B1/B2 and student visa appointments are available in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

Practical points from the Embassy: there is no parking on the Embassy grounds, but there is paid public parking nearby, including along Al Safarat Street. Bags of any size and laptops are not allowed, and there is storage only for small items such as phones. Since 1 September 2025 children of all ages must attend in person, and a visit can last up to three hours. Our US visa page covers B1/B2 files, and our interview preparation guide covers what the officer asks.

Appointments at The Mall, World Trade Centre

Several VFS Global centres are listed at the same address, Level B2 (Lower Ground), The Mall, World Trade Centre, on Khalifa Bin Zayed the 1st Street (Airport Road). The UK, France and Germany centres all give this address. A few practical points:

  • Check the exact centre name on your appointment letter, because different countries use different counters and checklists.
  • Submission hours end earlier than opening hours. France lists submission from 09:00 to 16:00 and Germany from 09:00 to 15:00, Monday to Friday, with shorter hours during Ramadan.
  • Paid extras are optional. The Italian Embassy says the additional services offered by BLS, including the premium lounge, are not mandatory for submitting an application.
  • Book early for France. France-Visas advises booking at least three months before departure for a short-stay visa.

Our guide to what happens at a VFS biometrics appointment describes the visit step by step; the process in Abu Dhabi is the same.

How Visa Doctor works with Abu Dhabi clients

We want to be clear about this: Visa Doctor does not have an office in Abu Dhabi. Our only office is Office 311, Stadium Point, Dubai Sports City, Dubai. Most of our Abu Dhabi clients never need to visit it, because the work happens by WhatsApp, phone and email, and the appointment itself happens in Abu Dhabi.

  1. Send your documents. Passport, residence visa, Emirates ID, travel dates and any previous refusals, by WhatsApp or email.
  2. We confirm the right centre. We check your destination, your residence visa emirate and the main destination rule, and tell you which embassy or centre you belong to.
  3. We prepare the file. Application forms, cover letter, checklist and a review of bank statements, employment letters and bookings. See our document preparation service.
  4. We book the appointment. At the Abu Dhabi centre wherever the rules allow it, at the earliest date we can reach.
  5. You attend in person. As a general rule applicants appear in person so fingerprints and a photo can be taken, and commercial intermediaries cannot give fingerprints on your behalf. We tell you exactly what to bring.
  6. We follow up. We help you track the application and prepare for collection or any request for further documents.

What we do not do: attend your appointment for you, promise a result, or influence a consulate. The decision belongs to the embassy or consulate. For Dubai-based services and our full list of destinations, see visa services in Dubai.

Is the US visa wait shorter in Abu Dhabi than in Dubai?

For students it was on 17 September 2026: about 0.5 month in Abu Dhabi against about 5 months in Dubai for F, M and J visas. For B1/B2 visitor visas it was about 12.5 months in Abu Dhabi and 11.5 months in Dubai. The figures change often, so check them before you book.

What happens if you cannot book my appointment in the agreed time?

If we agree in writing to book your appointment within a stated time frame and we do not secure it within that time, or the appointment is not made at all, we refund our service fee in full. The refund is tied to scheduling only. It never depends on the visa decision, which belongs to the embassy or consulate, and government and visa centre fees are paid to those bodies, not to us.
