UK Visit Visa Fees Went Up in April 2026: What UAE Residents Pay Now

What actually changed on 8 April 2026

The UK Home Office increased almost every immigration and nationality fee on 8 April 2026, and visit visas were part of that round. This was not a one-off. UK visa fees have gone up nearly every year since 2022, usually in April, and the Home Office frames each increase as bringing fees closer to the “real cost” of running the visa system. For UAE residents applying to visit the UK, the practical effect is simple: the application itself now costs more, on top of whatever VFS Global service fees you pay in Dubai or Abu Dhabi.

This fee increase is separate from the UK Electronic Travel Authorisation, or ETA, which also rose in the same update, from £16 to £20. The ETA is only for visa-exempt nationalities who do not need a full visit visa. If you are reading this because you were quoted a visa fee, not an ETA fee, you are looking at the numbers below.

Here is what changed for the visa categories that UAE residents apply for most often. All figures are the UK government fee only, in pounds sterling, and do not include the VFS Global service charge, courier fee, or any optional Prime Time or Premium Lounge add-ons you choose at the Dubai or Abu Dhabi centre.

Most UAE residents applying to visit the UK from Dubai are on the standard six month route, since that covers a single trip or several short trips within the visa’s validity. The two and five year options only make financial sense if you expect to travel to the UK repeatedly over that period, since you pay the full multi-year fee up front rather than per trip.

Why the fee keeps rising

The UK Home Office does not tie visa fees to inflation on a fixed schedule the way some Schengen states do. Instead it reviews the immigration and nationality fee schedule roughly once a year and adjusts routes it considers underpriced relative to the cost of running the system, including staff, IT platforms, and overseas visa application centres like the ones VFS Global runs in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Visit visas, work visas, student visas, and settlement routes were all part of the 8 April 2026 round, with the biggest percentage increases falling on settlement and citizenship applications rather than visit visas.

None of this is optional or negotiable, and no agency, including ours, can get you a lower government fee. What we can do is make sure you are not paying the government fee twice because a first attempt was refused over a document issue, or an avoidable mistake in the form.

What this means if you are applying from the UAE right now

If you hold an Emirates ID and UAE residence visa and are planning a UK trip, three things are worth knowing before you start the application.

You pay in your local currency, at the exchange rate on the day

The Home Office publishes fees in pounds sterling, but you pay the sterling equivalent in AED through the online application system, converted at the rate in effect when you pay. A weaker pound relative to the dirham can partly offset a fee increase, and a stronger pound makes it feel worse than the sterling number suggests. Either way, budget slightly above the raw sterling figure.

The government fee is only part of the total cost

On top of the £135 to £903 government fee, VFS Global in Dubai or Abu Dhabi charges its own service fee for processing your biometrics and passport handling, and courier return of your passport is usually a separate optional charge. Optional Prime Time appointments outside normal hours, or a Premium Lounge slot, add further cost. None of these VFS fees changed on 8 April 2026, since they are set by VFS Global, not the UK government, but they still make up a meaningful share of what you actually pay at the counter.

An existing visa or ETA is not affected

If you already hold a valid UK visit visa or ETA issued before 8 April 2026, it remains valid for its full original period. The new fee only applies when you submit a fresh application, whether that is your first UK visa or a renewal after your current one expires.

Should you apply before your trip is confirmed, to lock in a lower fee

Applying earlier does not lock in a lower fee retroactively, since the fee that applies is whichever is in force on the date you actually submit and pay. What earlier application does help with is appointment availability and processing time. UK visit visa decisions from Dubai typically take a number of weeks, and rushing an application close to a travel date increases the chance of an avoidable error that leads to a request for more documents or a refusal, both of which cost you time and, in the case of a refusal, mean paying the fee again to reapply.
