JulIreland is one of the most misunderstood destinations for UAE residents. Almost everything people assume, that a Schengen visa covers it, that a UK visa always covers it, that you can rush it, is wrong. Here is the complete, accurate guide.
The single biggest mistake: assuming Schengen covers Ireland
Ireland is in the European Union but not in Schengen. It sits in the Common Travel Area with the UK and runs its own immigration system. So:
- A Schengen visa will not get you into Dublin.
- An Irish visa will not get you into France, Italy or Spain.
- A trip covering Ireland and mainland Europe requires two separate applications. Plan both timelines.

How to apply from Dubai, step by step
- AVATS, complete the Irish immigration online application, then print and sign the summary sheet.
- Pay the fee, approximately EUR 60 (single entry) or EUR 100 (multiple entry), plus the VFS service charge.
- Book VFS, submit your passport and documents in Dubai or Abu Dhabi.
- Decision, VFS forwards your file to the Embassy of Ireland in Abu Dhabi.
- Collect your passport.
Processing time and the “urgent Ireland visa” myth
Short-stay Irish visas commonly take 4 to 8 weeks from the date the Embassy receives a complete file, and longer in summer or if they ask for more documents.
Ireland does not sell priority, express or fast-track processing to applicants in the UAE. It simply does not exist. If an agency offers you an “urgent Irish visa,” they are either misleading you or planning to submit something they should not. - Passport (valid well past your return) and previous passports.
- UAE residence visa and Emirates ID.
- Signed AVATS summary and a compliant photo, verify with our photo checker.
- Bank statements (usually 6 months, stamped) and salary certificate / NOC.

What causes Irish refusals
Ireland assesses finances and ties. The recurring self-inflicted error is a large, unexplained deposit landing shortly before you apply, it reads as borrowed money staged for the application. Consistent salary credits are far more persuasive. The other common failure is a weak or missing letter of application.
