For years, Jordanian citizens could travel to the UK visa-free for tourism, business or family visits. That changed in 2024. If you hold a Jordanian passport and live in the UAE, here is exactly what applies in 2026 and how to prepare a strong application from Dubai.
On 10 September 2024, the UK Home Office reinstated the visa requirement for Jordanian citizens through a Statement of Changes to the Immigration Rules. It took effect quickly, with only a short transition window. Today, every Jordanian passport holder must obtain a visa before travelling to the UK. The government cited border-security and immigration-integrity reasons, in line with a wider tightening of entry rules.
For tourism, visiting family, or short business trips, Jordanian nationals need a Standard Visitor Visa, applied for online and followed by a biometrics appointment. For UAE residents, that centre is in Dubai or Abu Dhabi — you do not need to return to Jordan.
| Visa type | Validity | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Standard Visitor Visa | Up to 6 months | Tourism, business, family visits |
| Long-term Visitor Visa | 2, 5 or 10 years | Frequent visitors (each stay max 6 months) |
| Direct Airside Transit Visa | Transit | Changing flights through a UK airport |

No — and this causes real confusion. The UK Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) is a cheap digital permission used by visa-exempt nationalities, including GCC nationals (UAE, Saudi, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman). Because Jordanian nationals are no longer visa-exempt, they cannot use the ETA for visits. A full Standard Visitor Visa is required.
The 2024 change also affects transit. Jordanian nationals now generally need a transit visa even when only changing flights at a UK airport. If you pass through UK immigration or re-check luggage, a Visitor in Transit Visa applies; if you stay airside, a Direct Airside Transit Visa is the relevant category. Check your specific routing before booking.
UK caseworkers weigh two things heavily: your finances and your ties (reasons to return). As a UAE resident, your Emirates ID, residence visa, stable job and family in the UAE are powerful evidence you will not overstay. Keep every document consistent, add a clear cover letter, and apply 4–6 weeks before travel. Not sure how strong your case is? Try our approval-chance estimator.
