JulFrom Barcelona’s Gaudí architecture to Madrid’s museums and the beaches of the Costa del Sol, Spain is one of the most booked Schengen destinations for UAE residents. As a Schengen member, Spain follows the same short-stay visa framework as the rest of the Schengen area, with applications submitted through the Spanish Embassy or Visa Application Centre in the UAE.
Do UAE Residents Need a Visa for Spain?
Yes, unless you hold a passport from a Schengen visa-exempt country. If Spain is your main destination or first point of entry into the Schengen area, you should apply through the Spanish visa application centre in Dubai or Abu Dhabi.
Where You Apply: BLS International, Not VFS
This is the single most common mistake UAE residents make when applying for Spain. Most Schengen countries in the UAE outsource to VFS Global, so applicants naturally go looking for a Spain counter at a VFS centre. There is not one. Spain works with BLS International, a completely separate outsourcing partner with its own centres, its own appointment system and its own website.
Booking on the wrong portal, or arriving at a VFS centre holding a Spain file, costs people days and occasionally their travel dates. If you have already been through a Schengen application for France or Italy from Dubai, expect a different process here.

Across all three centres, applications are submitted between 9:00 and 15:00, and passports are collected between 15:00 and 17:00. The centres close on Saturdays, Sundays and on holidays set by the Embassy of Spain in Abu Dhabi. Addresses do change, so confirm the current one on the official BLS Spain UAE website before you travel to a centre.

Documents Required
- ✅ Passport valid for at least three months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen area, with two blank pages
- ✅ Completed and signed Schengen visa application form
- ✅ Two recent passport-size photos
- ✅ Confirmed round-trip flight booking
- ✅ Confirmed hotel bookings for the full length of stay
- ✅ Travel medical insurance covering at least EUR 30,000, valid across the Schengen area
- ✅ Bank statements for the last 3 to 6 months
- ✅ Employment letter or trade license and company documents for business owners
- ✅ For business travel, an invitation letter from the Spanish host company
Visa Fees and Processing Time
Spain applies the standard Schengen short-stay visa fee, set centrally across all member states and periodically revised, so confirm the current amount with the visa application centre before paying. Standard processing takes around 15 calendar days from your appointment date, though this can extend during peak summer months, so we recommend applying 4 to 6 weeks before travel.
Tourist vs Business Visa Documents
Tourist applicants should prepare a clear day-by-day itinerary, confirmed accommodation, and proof of funds. Business applicants additionally need an official invitation letter from the Spanish company detailing the meetings or event, along with a letter from their UAE employer confirming approved leave.

April to June and September to October offer pleasant weather and smaller crowds compared to the peak July, August summer season, when coastal cities can be extremely busy.
How to Apply for a Spain Visa from Dubai (Step by Step)
Spain is part of the Schengen area, so a Spanish visit or tourist visa is a short-stay Schengen visa (Type C). For UAE residents in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, the process is:
- Confirm Spain is the correct country to apply through. Apply via Spain when it is your main destination by number of nights, or your first point of entry into the Schengen area.
- Complete and sign the Schengen visa application form for Spain.
- Gather your documents: passport, Emirates ID, UAE residence visa, photographs, bank statements, employer NOC or trade licence, return flights, accommodation and Schengen travel insurance of at least 30,000 euros.
- Book your appointment at BLS International in the UAE, the centre appointed by the Spanish consulate, and attend to give your biometrics. Note this is different from most Schengen countries, which use VFS Global.
- Submit and collect. Your passport stays at BLS until the decision is made, then you collect it or receive it by courier.
