Not all embassies are equal. For the same traveller, one consulate may approve quickly while another is slow or strict. If you have genuine flexibility in where you apply, understanding these differences can make your visa easier to get — here is how it works for UAE residents.
For a Schengen visa you must apply to the country that is your main destination — where you will spend the most nights — or, if nights are equal, your point of entry. You cannot simply pick the “easiest” embassy; doing so is itself a common refusal reason. Flexibility only exists when your itinerary genuinely allows a choice (for example, an equal multi-country trip), or when deciding which country to build your trip around in the first place.
Four things differ from one consulate to another, and all of them affect your experience:
Among Schengen states, the high-volume tourist consulates in the UAE — such as those handling large Gulf traveller numbers — are geared for efficient processing of straightforward tourist files, while some northern European posts are known for stricter documentation and longer waits. However, these tendencies shift each year with policy and staffing, so treat them as a starting point, not a guarantee. The single most reliable move is to apply to your true main destination with a complete, consistent file.
The same logic applies elsewhere. US visitor visas hinge on interview wait times and your ties to the UAE; UK decisions weigh finances and ties heavily but are usually fast; Canada is document-driven and online. For each, the “better” route is the one that matches your profile and timeline.
Decide your genuine main destination, check that consulate current appointment availability and published refusal rate, and then build the strongest possible file. Use our approval-chance estimator to find your weak spots, the timeline planner to book in time, and the document checklist to complete your file. If you are unsure which country or consulate best fits your plans, Visa Doctor can advise based on your itinerary and profile.
Only if your itinerary genuinely makes that country your main destination. Applying to the wrong consulate to chase a better rate is a refusal risk in itself.
There is no fixed answer — it changes yearly and depends on your profile. Approval comes down to a complete, consistent file at your correct main-destination consulate far more than the flag on the visa.

This is the question we get asked most: ‘which country is easiest?’ Honestly it changes every year and depends on your profile – apply to your real main destination with a clean, consistent file and you’ll do better than chasing a flag. Happy to look at your specific case if you’re unsure.
Thanks for reading! One thing we’d add: a great approval rate is no help if you can’t get an appointment before your trip. Book the slot early – message us if you’re stuck.
