Quick answer: Lebanese citizens living in the UAE are not visa exempt for the Schengen area or the United Kingdom. You apply from Dubai or Abu Dhabi through the relevant visa application centre, using your UAE residence visa as the basis for applying here rather than in Lebanon. You will need the standard financial, employment and travel documents, and some Schengen countries carry out an extra background check for Lebanese applicants that can add time to processing, so applying early matters more than for most nationalities.

Lebanon has one of the largest expatriate communities in the UAE, and a large share of that community travels regularly to Europe and the UK for holidays, family visits and business. Because Lebanon is not on the Schengen or UK visa waiver list, every trip needs a visa applied for in advance. The good news is that applying from the UAE, on a valid UAE residence visa, is usually more straightforward and often faster than applying from Lebanon itself.

Do Lebanese citizens need a visa for Schengen countries?

Yes. Lebanon is not part of the EU’s visa exempt list, so a Lebanese passport holder needs a short stay Schengen visa for tourism, family visits, business trips or transit through the Schengen area, regardless of how long the trip is. This applies whether you are travelling from Beirut or from the UAE.

What changes when you live in the UAE is where you apply. Because you hold a valid UAE residence visa, you can usually submit your Schengen application through the visa application centre in Dubai or Abu Dhabi for the country you are visiting, rather than needing to fly back to Lebanon. Each Schengen country still decides its own centre, so check the specific requirements: Spain applications go through BLS International at I Rise Tower in Barsha Heights (Tecom) or at Tamouh Tower on Al Reem Island in Abu Dhabi, while Italy’s Dubai centre serves Dubai and the Northern Emirates only, and Germany runs a waitlist system that splits Dubai and Northern Emirates applicants from Abu Dhabi and Al Ain applicants.

Do Lebanese citizens need a visa for the UK?

Yes, a UK Standard Visitor visa is required. Lebanese nationals apply online and then attend an appointment at a UK visa application centre in the UAE to give biometrics. As with Schengen applications, applying from the UAE on a valid residence visa is generally accepted and is the normal route for the large Lebanese community based here.

Extra checks some Lebanese applicants face

Because of the security situation in the region, some Schengen consulates run an additional background consultation for applicants of certain nationalities, including Lebanese nationals in some cases, before a visa is issued. This is not a refusal and does not mean anything is wrong with your file. It simply means the consulate has to wait for a response from other member states before it can decide, and this can add one to three weeks on top of normal processing. The practical takeaway is to apply well ahead of your travel date and to avoid booking non refundable flights until your visa is approved. Confirm current wait times directly with the consulate or visa centre for your destination, since they vary by country and change without notice.

Documents Lebanese citizens in the UAE typically need

DocumentNotes for UAE based applicants
PassportValid for at least 3 months beyond the return date, with blank pages
UAE residence visa copyShows you are applying correctly from the UAE rather than Lebanon
Bank statementsUsually the last 3 to 6 months, showing a stable balance
Employment letter or trade licenceConfirms your job, salary and approved leave, or your business if self employed
Travel insuranceMeeting the Schengen minimum medical coverage requirement
Accommodation and flight proofHotel booking or invitation letter, and a reserved but not necessarily paid flight

For a full breakdown by document type, our visa document checklist generator builds a personalised list based on your destination and situation. If you are self employed, our guide on Schengen visas for self employed and freelancers in Dubai covers what to submit instead of an employment letter.

How long should Lebanese applicants allow?

Standard Schengen processing is up to 15 calendar days, extendable to 30 or in some cases 60 days under EU rules, and the possible extra consultation for some nationalities sits on top of that. For UAE based Lebanese applicants, we generally recommend applying 6 to 8 weeks before travel where possible, and never later than 3 to 4 weeks before your trip. Our Schengen 90/180 day calculator helps you check how much of your allowance you have left if you travel to Europe frequently, and our guide to booking appointments early explains the booking side in more detail.

How Visa Doctor helps

We work with Lebanese residents across the UAE every week, and we know which consulates tend to run extra checks and how to prepare a file that avoids the most common causes of delay or refusal, such as weak proof of ties or an unclear travel purpose. We review your documents before submission, help you book the right appointment slot, and give you a realistic view of timing so you are not caught out close to a travel date. If a previous application was refused, our guide on how a refusal affects future applications is a useful starting point before you reapply.

Frequently asked questions

Can Lebanese citizens apply for a Schengen visa from Dubai instead of Beirut?

Yes, provided you hold a valid UAE residence visa. This is the normal route for Lebanese residents in the UAE and avoids the need to travel back to Lebanon to apply.

Is the UK visa process different for Lebanese citizens applying from the UAE?

The process itself is the same online application and biometric appointment used by other nationalities. What differs is that you apply using your UAE residence status rather than a Lebanese address, and you should be ready to show ties to both the UAE and Lebanon.

Why do some Lebanese applications take longer than others?

Some Schengen consulates carry out an additional background consultation for certain nationalities before issuing a visa, which is separate from your individual application and can add extra weeks. This is standard practice for some countries and is not a sign of a problem with your file.

Does a Lebanese passport affect approval chances compared to other nationalities?

Nationality is one factor consulates consider alongside your individual documents, ties and travel history. A complete, well prepared application with strong proof of ties generally has a materially better chance regardless of nationality. Our visa approval chance calculator can give you a general indication based on your profile.

Can Lebanese citizens use the UK eVisa system?

Since 25 February 2026 most UK visa holders have used digital eVisas as the default proof of status rather than a physical vignette. Our guide on the UK eVisa explained covers what this means in practice.
