**Quick answer:** If you have a genuine emergency, you can ask the US Embassy Abu Dhabi or Consulate Dubai to move your visa interview earlier through the official expedite request process. You first book a regular appointment for the earliest date available, then sign into your visa scheduling account, select “Request Expedite,” and explain the date and purpose of your travel. It is free to submit, but approval is not guaranteed and depends on the strength of your reason. This is different from the separate paid $750 fast track pilot, which does not currently apply to applicants in the UAE.

## What an expedited appointment actually is

An expedited appointment is a request to move your visa interview earlier than the next available slot shown on the official booking system, because of a genuine emergency. It only changes when you are seen for your interview. It does not change how your case is reviewed once you are in front of a consular officer, and it does not improve your chances of approval. If your travel need is not urgent enough to qualify, the standard booking calendar is still the right route, which our [full guide to USA visa appointment and interview scheduling from Dubai](https://visadoctor.ae/country-post/united-states/) covers step by step. If you have not yet started your application, our overview of [applying for a US visa from the UAE](/can-i-apply-for-a-us-visa-from-the-uae/) is a good starting point.

## How to request an expedited appointment

The process is set out by the US Embassy Abu Dhabi and US Consulate General Dubai and works the same way for both posts.

- Book a regular non immigrant visa appointment for the closest available date, even if that date is weeks or months away. You cannot request an expedite without first having a scheduled appointment on the books.

- Sign into your visa scheduling account, click Continue, then select “Request Expedite” and follow the prompts.

- In the request, state the exact date and purpose of your travel, and explain clearly why the standard appointment date does not work.

- If your situation involves a denied ESTA or a US Customs and Border Protection message, attach a copy of that correspondence, since it directly supports certain expedite categories.

There is no separate fee to submit the request itself beyond the visa application fee you already pay to book the regular appointment.

## What counts as a genuine emergency

### Reasons that are usually considered

- A medical emergency involving the applicant or an immediate family member, particularly one requiring treatment in the United States.

- The death or funeral of an immediate family member in the United States.

- Urgent, time sensitive business travel where the date cannot reasonably be moved.

- A university or program start date that falls before the next available appointment slot.

### Reasons that are usually not accepted

- Holidays, tourism, weddings, or general family visits, even when flights or hotels are already booked.

- Wanting to travel sooner simply because the wait feels long.

- A trip planned around a date you have not yet purchased tickets for.

The distinction the consular section is drawing is between a trip that would be disappointing to postpone and one that is genuinely time critical. Framing a request honestly around the second category is what gives it a real chance of being reviewed favourably.

Reason for the request |
Supporting document to include |

Medical emergency |
Hospital or doctor’s letter confirming the condition and the need to travel |

Death or funeral of immediate family |
Death certificate or funeral notice, and proof of the family relationship |

Urgent business travel |
Employer letter stating the fixed date and business reason for travel |

Study program start date |
Enrolment letter or I-20 showing the program start date |

Denied ESTA, now applying for a visa |
Copy of the US Customs and Border Protection denial message |

## How this differs from the $750 fast track pilot

The United States separately introduced a paid pilot that gives some B1/B2 applicants an interview in about ten business days for a $750 fee. As we cover in our guide to the [$750 US visa fast track and whether it is available in the UAE](/us-visa-750-fast-track-uae/), that pilot runs only at a limited number of posts and Abu Dhabi and Dubai are not currently among them. The free expedite request described on this page is the official free route for urgent travel and it depends on a genuine emergency rather than a payment. Our 7 working day appointment service is separate: we watch every appointment release, book the earliest confirmed slot we can reach, agree the timeframe with you in writing and refund our service fee if we do not secure it.

## What happens after you submit the request

The consular section reviews expedite requests on a case by case basis and there is no published turnaround time for a decision, so it is worth submitting as early as your emergency is known rather than waiting. If the request is approved, you will typically see an earlier date become available on your scheduling account. Our guide to [rescheduling a US visa appointment in Dubai](https://visadoctor.ae/us-visa-appointment-reschedule-dubai/) explains how to move to that date. If it is not approved, your original appointment date remains in place and you can still travel to that appointment as scheduled. You can check the status of an existing case or follow up with a consular section representative through the Global Support Services contact channels listed on the [official appointment scheduling site](https://visadoctor.ae/country-post/united-states/).

## Common mistakes that get expedite requests denied

The most frequent mistake is submitting a request before a regular appointment has actually been booked, since the system requires an existing appointment to attach the expedite request to. The second is vague wording that does not state a specific date and a specific reason, which gives the reviewing officer nothing concrete to assess. The third is attaching no supporting document at all, or a document that does not clearly connect to the applicant, such as a family member’s medical letter with no explanation of the relationship. And a fair number of requests are simply the wrong category: tourism or a family celebration, however meaningful, is not treated as an emergency under the current guidance.

## How Visa Doctor helps

We help applicants put together an expedite request that states the case clearly and attaches the right supporting document for the specific category being claimed, which is often the difference between a request that gets a proper look and one that is filtered out early. We also prepare the underlying [B1/B2 visa application](https://visadoctor.ae/country-post/united-states/) itself, so the regular appointment behind the expedite request is already in good shape, and if a previous application ran into a [214b](/us-visa-214b-refusal-explained-dubai/) or [221g](/us-221g-refusal-explained-dubai/) issue, we can help you address it before you reapply. Try our [document checklist generator](/visa-document-checklist-generator/) and [visa approval chance calculator](/visa-approval-chance-calculator/) to prepare your file. If you are ever offered a paid service that claims to guarantee a faster US visa appointment, be cautious of anyone who promises the visa decision or a special paid route inside the consulate, because no agent can. What a reputable agent can do is monitor appointment releases, secure the earliest slot available, agree the timeframe in writing and refund the fee if it is missed. And our guide on [spotting a fake visa agent in Dubai](/how-to-spot-fake-visa-agent-dubai/) covers the warning signs.

## Frequently asked questions

### Does an expedited appointment cost extra?

No. Submitting the expedite request itself has no separate fee beyond the standard visa application fee you already paid to book the regular appointment.

### Can I request an expedite before I have a regular appointment booked?

No. You must first book a regular appointment for the earliest available date, then submit the expedite request against that booking.

### Is an expedited appointment the same as the $750 fast track?

No. The $750 option is a separate paid pilot that does not currently include Abu Dhabi or Dubai. The expedite request described here is free and is separate from the paid expedited pilot for B visa applicants.

### Will an expedited appointment improve my chances of visa approval?

No. It only affects when you are seen for your interview, not how the consular officer evaluates your application on the day.

### What if my expedite request is refused?

Your original appointment date stays in place and you can attend that appointment as normal. There is no penalty for having submitted a request that was not approved.
