**Quick answer:** If you live in the UAE and need a Swiss short stay visa, the application is lodged with VFS Global in Dubai or Abu Dhabi, and the visa section of the Embassy of Switzerland in Abu Dhabi decides it. You cannot submit without first registering and booking an appointment on the VFS Global website. Switzerland also has a Consulate General in Dubai, but it is not where visa applications are lodged. Visa Doctor is not an embassy, consulate or visa centre, so we prepare your file and help with the booking, and the Swiss authorities make the decision.

## Switzerland embassy Dubai: which office does what

The phrase “Switzerland embassy Dubai” mixes up three separate bodies, so it helps to keep them apart.

- **Embassy of Switzerland in Abu Dhabi:** serves the UAE and Bahrain. Its visa section processes applications from permanent residents of the UAE or Bahrain who intend to travel to Switzerland or Liechtenstein. Long stay visa applications (study, employment, retirement, family reunification) are also made directly at this embassy.

- **Consulate General of Switzerland in Dubai:** described on the official Swiss site as the official representation on the ground, focused on Switzerland’s economic interests. It states that Schengen visa applications go through VFS Global and that all consular services for Swiss nationals in the UAE are provided exclusively by the embassy in Abu Dhabi.

- **VFS Global:** the external service provider with application centres in Abu Dhabi and Dubai (and Manama for Bahrain). It receives your file and biometrics but does not decide the visa.

We could not verify the street addresses or public opening hours of the Swiss embassy and consulate from an official source, so we do not quote them here. Use the “Addresses and opening hours” section of the official Swiss representations website for the UAE, linked in our sources note at the end. The same applies to the VFS Global centre addresses: take them from the Switzerland page on the official VFS Global site when you book.

## How to apply for a Swiss visa from the UAE

- **Step 1.** Confirm you need a visa. Entry requirements by nationality are published on the Swiss government site, and some passports are exempt for short stays.

- **Step 2.** Check the timing. The embassy states applications are accepted from six months to 15 days before travel.

- **Step 3.** Register and book on the VFS Global Switzerland page for the UAE. The embassy’s page says submission is only possible after prior registration and appointment booking there.

- **Step 4.** Complete the form and gather the documents for your visa category. VFS Global publishes separate checklists for business, visit, and tourist and private household employee visas.

- **Step 5.** Attend the appointment with your original passport and documents, pay the fees and give your biometrics.

- **Step 6.** Wait for the decision. The checklist notes that no passport withdrawal is possible while the file is being processed, so do not plan other travel on that passport.

The VFS Global helpline listed by the embassy is +971 4 205 58 88, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm Gulf time, with email info.swissuae@vfshelpline.com.

## Fees

The Swiss embassy page lists the standard visa fee as EUR 90 for adults and EUR 45 for children aged 6 to 12, with a reduced rate of EUR 35 for selected nationalities. VFS Global’s UAE page prices the visa in dirhams: AED 395 for the standard category, AED 200 for children aged 6 to 12, free for children under 6, and AED 155 for visa facilitation countries. It adds a service charge of AED 112.58 per application. VFS says all fees are non-refundable and can move with exchange rates. These are government and provider charges. Visa Doctor’s own fees are separate and are not part of these figures.

## Documents for a tourist visa

The official VFS Global checklist for tourist visas lists the following. Always download the current version, because a document missing at the counter is the most common reason people lose a slot.

- **Application form:** completed, dated and signed. Documents must be in English or an official Swiss language, or translated.

- **Photograph:** one recent passport photo, not older than six months, 3.5 by 4.5 cm on a light background, glued to the form.

- **Passport:** original plus a copy of the data page and pages showing previous Schengen visas and your UAE residence permit. It must carry your signature, have at least two consecutive empty pages, be issued within the last 10 years and be valid for at least three months beyond your intended departure from Schengen.

- **UAE residence permit:** valid for at least three months after your intended departure from the Schengen states.

- **Accommodation:** proof for each night of the trip.

- **Flights:** a reservation including the return.

- **Travel insurance:** medical cover for emergencies, hospitalisation and repatriation, minimum 30,000 euros, valid across the Schengen area for the whole stay.

- **Funds:** bank statements showing movements for the last three months, or other verifiable evidence.

- **Employment evidence:** a company letter on letterhead, in original, stamped, with the signatory’s name and position. Scanned or electronic signatures are not accepted. It should state your position, joining date, salary and the dates of your approved leave, and confirm that your job continues after the trip. Business owners need a valid trade licence, and dependants need an NOC from the sponsor.

The checklist adds that the embassy reserves the right to ask for more documents or a personal interview. Minors, household employees and spouses of Swiss or EU/EFTA nationals have their own rules on the checklist.

## Timing and decisions

The Swiss embassy page says standard processing is 15 calendar days, that consultation with other Schengen states may add up to 14 days, and that complex cases may take up to 12 weeks. Treat those as the authority’s own statements, not promises from anyone else, and file early. If you are visiting more than one Schengen country, check which state you should apply to first, using our guide to the [Schengen main destination rule](/schengen-main-destination-rule-dubai/). You can also read our guides on [UAE residence visa validity for Schengen](/uae-residence-visa-validity-schengen-visa/) and the [Schengen refusal codes](/schengen-visa-refusal-codes-explained-dubai/).

## Common mistakes

- **Going to the Dubai consulate to lodge a visa.** Applications are lodged through VFS Global.

- **Skipping registration.** Submission is only possible after registration and an appointment.

- **An employer letter with an electronic signature.** The checklist does not accept scanned or electronic signatures.

- **A residence permit that is too close to expiry.** It must cover three months beyond your departure from Schengen.

- **Using unofficial helpers outside the centre.** The embassy warns that people offering insurance, translations or other services outside official premises do not work for the embassy or VFS Global.

## How Visa Doctor helps

Visa Doctor is a licensed Dubai visa documentation and appointment agency. We are not an embassy, consulate or visa centre. For Switzerland we check your category, prepare and review the file against the current VFS checklist, and arrange your VFS Global appointment where one is needed. We cannot promise an outcome. The Swiss authorities decide every application. See our [Switzerland visa from Dubai](/country-post/switzerland/) page, our [Schengen appointment guide](/schengen-visa-appointment-dubai/) and our [appointment booking service](/visa-appointment-booking-dubai/).

## Sources and last checked

Last checked: October 2026, against the Embassy of Switzerland’s Schengen visa procedure page for the UAE and Bahrain, the Consulate General of Switzerland in Dubai page, the VFS Global Switzerland UAE visa information page and the VFS Global tourist visa checklist. Street addresses and hours for the Swiss offices and the VFS centres could not be verified, so confirm them on the official Swiss representations site and the VFS Global Switzerland page.

This guide is part of our [embassies, consulates and visa centres in Dubai and Abu Dhabi hub](/embassies-consulates-visa-centres-dubai-abu-dhabi-guide/), which lists every country guide in one place.
