## A passport that is visa free in the Schengen Area today.Read the 2028 EU warning first.

St Kitts and Nevis offers citizenship from a $250,000 contribution that covers a main applicant and family of up to four. The EU has asked the country to close the route by 1 June 2028, so we explain that risk before you decide.

- Official contribution of $250,000, with government background check fees of $10,000 for the main applicant
- Open for applications, with an official decision time of 120 to 180 days
- We never promise approval or future visa free access, which belong to the governments involved

Schengen visa free access is the main reason to buy this passport, and it is the part the EU has put at risk.

The EU asked St Kitts and Nevis to close its investor citizenship route by **1 June 2028**. There is **no confirmed residence requirement today**, but reforms planned for 2026 point to a physical presence rule. **We give our fee in writing** before you pay anything.

## The EU 2028 Warning You Should Know About

The European Union asked Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, St Kitts and Nevis and Saint Lucia to close their investor citizenship programmes by **1 June 2028**. If a country does not comply, the EU can use its visa suspension mechanism and end visa free Schengen access for that country passport holders.

Vanuatu is the precedent. Its citizens kept their passports, but the EU suspended their visa free entry to the Schengen Area in 2024. The same outcome is possible for St Kitts and Nevis. Citizenship that has already been granted would not be removed, but the main reason many clients buy this passport, Schengen visa free access, could be.

Nobody can promise what will happen. If Schengen access is essential to you, compare the [Argentina](/argentina-citizenship-by-investment/) guide, because Argentina has no EU deadline.

## How the Application Works

- **Eligibility check.** We confirm you can pass the government background checks and gather identity, police and financial documents.
- **Choose the route.** The SISC contribution route is the one we prepare for clients.
- **Filing through an authorised agent.** St Kitts and Nevis accepts applications only through agents authorised by its government. We prepare and manage your file and the application is filed through an authorised agent.
- **Government background checks.** The Citizenship by Investment Unit checks every applicant and family member.
- **Approval and payment.** The contribution is paid to the government only after approval in principle.
- **Passport.** Once approved, you apply for the passport. The official decision time is 120 to 180 days.

## What It Costs

SISC contribution | $250,000 for the main applicant or a family of up to four |

Additional dependants | $25,000 for each dependant under 18 and $50,000 for each dependant aged 18 or over |

Government background check fee | $10,000 for the main applicant, $7,500 for each dependant aged 16 or over (paid to the government to check your background, not a Visa Doctor fee) |

Total, one adult | $260,000 |

Example: couple with two children under 16 | $267,500 ($250,000 contribution, $10,000 for the main applicant, $7,500 for the spouse) |

Visa Doctor service fee | Published in writing before we take any payment |

These are the figures on the official Citizenship by Investment Unit page. It lists no separate processing or passport fee, so we confirm the full fee table with the authorised agent before filing.

## Is the Money Refundable?

- **Contribution route:** the $250,000 Sustainable Island State Contribution is a payment to the government and is not an investment you get back.
- **Real estate route:** the Citizenship Unit lists a minimum of $325,000 paid to an approved developer, with the property held for at least seven years before it can be resold. You own the property, but resale value is not guaranteed, and purchase costs such as insurance fund contributions and conveyance fees apply.
- **Fees:** due diligence ($10,000 for the main applicant, $7,500 for each dependant aged 16 or over) and the other government fees are not refundable.

Official terms can change, and fees are not refundable. Confirm the current rules on the government site before you pay anything.

## Residence and Presence Rules

Today the programme does not require you to live in St Kitts and Nevis. The government has announced reforms for 2026 that include a **genuine link** requirement with structured physical presence. No day count has been confirmed.

If you want a passport that needs only a short stay each year, treat any future presence rule as an open question until the law is published. We will not promise a no presence outcome.

## What the Passport Gives

- **Schengen Area:** visa free for up to 90 days in any 180 days, for now.
- **United Kingdom:** an online ETA is required before travel.
- **United States:** a visa is required. There is no ESTA, but the country is not on the current US travel restriction list.
- **Destinations:** more than 150, depending on the index.
- **Dual citizenship:** permitted by St Kitts and Nevis.
- **Biometrics:** citizens must enrol their biometrics by 31 July 2027. Passports without enrolment are deactivated from August 2027.

## Risks to Weigh Before You Decide

- **EU 2028 deadline:** Schengen visa free access could be suspended after 1 June 2028.
- **Presence rules:** the planned genuine link reform may require time in the country.
- **Programme changes:** reforms planned for 2026 could change the contribution route. Nothing is confirmed.
- **US access:** a visitor visa is still required.
- **Background checks:** applications can be refused and no outcome is guaranteed.

### How much does St Kitts and Nevis citizenship by investment cost?

The Sustainable Island State Contribution is $250,000 for a main applicant or a family of up to four, and background check adds $10,000 for the main applicant, so one adult pays $260,000 to the government. Visa Doctor publishes its own fee in writing before taking any payment.

### Does a St Kitts and Nevis passport give visa free access to the Schengen Area?

Yes. Citizens can currently enter the Schengen Area without a visa for up to 90 days in any 180 day period. The EU has asked St Kitts and Nevis to close its investor citizenship route by 1 June 2028 and could suspend this access if it does not.

No. The EU can suspend visa free access for a country passport holders, but it cannot cancel citizenship granted by another state. In the Vanuatu case, citizens kept their passports but lost visa free Schengen entry in 2024.

### Do I have to live in St Kitts and Nevis?

There is no confirmed residence requirement today. Planned 2026 reforms include a genuine link rule with structured physical presence, but no day count has been confirmed.

### How long does the application take?

The official timeline is 120 to 180 days. Agents describe an accelerated route of about 60 days, which is not guaranteed.

### Can I keep my current citizenship?

St Kitts and Nevis allows dual citizenship. Your home country may not, so check its rules before applying.

### Is St Kitts and Nevis better than Argentina?

### Is Visa Doctor licensed to handle citizenship by investment applications?
