Every provider and rule below was checked on the official visa centre or embassy website that day. **Short answer:** A Schengen visa appointment in Dubai is booked on the official website of the visa centre that works for your main destination: VFS Global for most Schengen countries, BLS International for Spain, VFS Global in Dubai or BLS in Abu Dhabi for Italy depending on your residence visa, and VFS Global in Abu Dhabi only for France. Booking itself is free on the official sites; you pay a service fee to the centre and the visa fee of EUR 90 at or before the appointment. You can book up to 6 months before travel, and several countries release slots through a waitlist rather than an open calendar, so the earlier you register the better your chances. See [the main destination rule](https://visadoctor.ae/schengen-main-destination-rule-dubai/). - **Find its provider and centre** in the table below, and check which centre covers the emirate on your residence visa. - **Complete the application form** that country uses. Some require the online form before booking: France (France-Visas), Germany (Videx), the Netherlands (the Dutch consular portal) and Switzerland (the SEM form). - **Create an account on the official booking site** and book one appointment per person, under the correct visa category. In summer, around Eid and during school holidays, demand runs far ahead of the slots released. These are the options that genuinely work, in order of how often they help. - **Book earlier.** Use the full 6-month window. Most people who get stuck started six to eight weeks before travel. - **Register on the waitlist** where the country runs one, on the day your dates are fixed. Germany and Italy do not: they tie you to the centre for your emirate. - **Ask the consulate about urgency** if you have a genuine emergency. Under Article 9(3) of the Visa Code a consulate can accept an application without an appointment, or give one immediately, in justified cases of urgency. - **Change the dates or the itinerary** honestly, if another country is really where you will spend most of the trip. Never apply to a country only because it has slots. Never buy an appointment from a third party. BLS warns that its staff never ask for payment to obtain or expedite an appointment, and the Swiss Embassy states that appointment bookings are free and that it has no agreement with any agency for lodging applications. ## Premium lounge, Prime Time and doorstep services: what they do and do not do Option | What it gives you | What it does not do | Prime Time | Submission outside normal hours. No. You can book a Schengen appointment yourself on the official VFS Global or BLS International website for your main destination, and booking there is free. What an agency adds is a checked file and someone who manages the booking for you. It cannot create slots the consulate has not released. On the official website of the visa centre for your main destination: VFS Global for most countries, BLS International for Spain and for Italy in Abu Dhabi, and VFS Global Abu Dhabi for France. The table on this page links to each one. ### Is booking a Schengen appointment free? Booking on the official sites is free, but the centre charges a service fee per applicant, often paid online when you book, and the visa fee is paid separately. Never pay a third party for a slot. ### How early can I book a Schengen appointment from the UAE? Up to 6 months before travel. As a rule you must apply at least 15 calendar days before the trip, and France asks for the appointment at least 3 months before departure. ### Why are there no Schengen appointments in Dubai? Each consulate decides how many appointments to release, and demand in summer and holidays exceeds supply. Several countries release slots through waitlists first, so register early and check for cancellations. ### Which Schengen countries use a waitlist in the UAE? VFS runs waitlists for Germany, the Netherlands and Switzerland. Germany sends an email invitation valid for 24 hours, and waitlist bookings for Germany and the Netherlands cannot be rescheduled. ### Can I book my Schengen appointment in Abu Dhabi if I live in Dubai? It depends on the country. Germany and Italy tie you to the centre for your emirate. France has only one centre, in Abu Dhabi. Check the country’s rules before you book. ### Do I have to attend the Schengen appointment in person? Yes, as a rule every applicant attends to give fingerprints and a photo. Children under 12 are exempt from fingerprints, and applicants whose fingerprints were taken within the last 59 months may not need to give them again. ### Can I reschedule a Schengen appointment? VFS France and VFS Italy Dubai allow one reschedule up to 2 days before. Waitlist bookings for Germany and the Netherlands cannot be rescheduled, and BLS Spain requires you to cancel and book again. ### Does the premium lounge get me an earlier appointment? No. Paid options change comfort or timing on the day. BLS Spain states its Premium Lounge does not mean an earlier appointment, and VFS Switzerland does not offer separate appointments to buyers of paid services. ### Can a visa agency book my Schengen appointment? For most VFS countries an agency can book in the official system on your behalf. For Spain, BLS requires applicants to book their own appointments.
