**Quick answer:** You apply for a New Zealand visa from Dubai online with Immigration New Zealand, not at an embassy. The New Zealand Embassy is in Abu Dhabi and there is a Consulate General at Emirates Towers in Dubai, but neither processes visas. They offer notarial and consular services. From 1 October 2026 Immigration New Zealand says applications for the Visitor Visa must be made online. Citizens of visa waiver countries may use an NZeTA instead of a visa, and your nationality, not your UAE residence, decides which one you need. Visa Doctor helps you prepare and check your documents, but we are not Immigration New Zealand or an embassy and cannot promise a decision.

## New Zealand visa from Dubai: who actually handles it

Searches such as “NZ visa Dubai” usually mean one of two things: where do I go, and what do I submit. The answer to the first is that you do not go anywhere in the first instance. Visa decisions are made by Immigration New Zealand (INZ), the immigration arm of the New Zealand government, and the usual route for visitor visas is an online application.

## New Zealand embassy and consulate in the UAE

### New Zealand Embassy, Abu Dhabi

The New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade lists the embassy at International Tower, Level 25, Suite 2503, Capital Centre, Abu Dhabi (PO Box 62292), telephone +971 2 496 3333. Hours listed are Monday to Thursday 8:30 to 16:00, and Friday 10:00 to 12:00 by appointment only. The embassy is accredited to both the UAE and Qatar. Its listed services are notarial and consular, such as certified copies, signature witnessing, affidavits and consular letters. It does not process visas according to the page we checked.

### New Zealand Consulate General, Dubai

The consulate general is at Office 6A, 6th Floor, Emirates Towers, Trade Centre, Dubai, telephone +971 4 270 0100. The ministry page lists notarial services on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:15 to 13:00, by appointment only. Again, this is not a visa counter.

## How to apply for a New Zealand Visitor Visa from the UAE

The Immigration New Zealand Visitor Visa page says that from 1 October 2026, applications for this visa must be made online. A typical online process runs like this:

- **Choose the right visa.** Use the INZ visa tool to check whether you need a Visitor Visa or can apply for an NZeTA. Australian citizens travelling on an Australian passport need neither.

- **Prepare your documents.** INZ lists passport copies, a photo that meets its rules, proof of funds, travel plans, onward travel and, if required, police and medical certificates. Documents that are not in English need translations.

- **Create a RealMe account.** INZ says most visas need a RealMe account before you can open the online form.

- **Upload and pay.** You upload your documents and photograph and pay online. INZ says you can pay by Mastercard, Visa or UnionPay.

- **Wait for INZ to contact you.** INZ says it will get in touch if it needs more information. INZ also warns that it receives a high volume of applications between November and March, so apply early for summer travel.

## NZeTA: when you do not need a visa

An NZeTA (New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority) is for citizens of visa waiver countries and a few other groups, such as transit and cruise passengers. INZ says an NZeTA lets you stay up to three months at a time (six months for UK citizens) and is valid for two years for travellers, and that applicants must be in good health, be of good character, have a genuine reason to visit, have sufficient funds and show plans to leave. INZ publishes the visa waiver country list and a comparison tool on its website. If your passport is not on the list, apply for a Visitor Visa. Do not rely on a travel blog or an agency page for this: use the INZ tool.

## VFS Global, biometrics and the Middle East

Immigration New Zealand’s page on offices outside New Zealand says that where it uses Visa Application Centres, appointments are required and are booked through the VFS Global website. VFS Global’s New Zealand page has a UAE entry, and the WAFI City website lists a VFS Global centre in Dubai as serving New Zealand. INZ’s own visitor visa page does not describe UAE centre services, and we could not confirm from INZ what VFS does for New Zealand visas in the UAE. Check the UAE page on the VFS site, and treat any request to attend a centre as valid only if it comes from INZ or the official VFS page. INZ also says it may ask for biometrics, such as photos, fingerprints or an iris scan, when you arrive in New Zealand.

## Do the embassy or consulate matter at all?

- For a **visa**: no. Apply online with INZ.

- For an **NZeTA**: no. It is an online authorisation.

- For **notarial or consular services**, such as certifying documents for use in New Zealand: yes, by appointment at the embassy or the Dubai consulate general.

- For **status of an INZ application**: use your online INZ account, not the embassy.

## Documents UAE residents typically prepare

- A passport with sufficient validity for the trip, plus copies of previous visas.

- Your UAE residence visa and Emirates ID, to show you will return.

- Bank statements and a salary certificate or employer letter showing you can fund the visit. INZ’s NZeTA page quotes at least NZD 1,000 a month, or NZD 400 a month if your accommodation is already paid for, as the funds benchmark. Check the visitor visa page for the current wording.

- Flights, an itinerary and accommodation, including onward travel proof.

- If you are visiting family or friends, an invitation and proof of the relationship.

- Police or medical certificates only if INZ says your case requires them.

- Translations for any document not in English.

## Common mistakes

- Looking for a New Zealand embassy visa counter in Dubai. There is none for visitor visas.

- Using a lookalike website instead of the INZ site, or paying a website to “book an NZ embassy appointment”.

- Applying for an NZeTA when your passport requires a visa, or the other way round.

- Uploading blurred scans, missing translations or photos that do not meet the INZ rules.

- Leaving the application late in the November to March peak.

- Ignoring a request from INZ for more information. The case can stall until you respond.
