**Quick answer:** bring your passport, signed I-20, DS-160 confirmation page, SEVIS I-901 payment receipt, visa fee receipt, appointment confirmation, photo, admission letter, academic records and proof you can pay for the first year of study. Add proof of ties to your home country if you have it.

The embassy and consulate in the UAE do not publish one fixed document list for every student, so the safest approach is to prepare the full set below and keep it in one folder in this order.

## Which documents are required?

- A passport valid for travel, plus any old passports with US visas.

- Your Form I-20, signed by you and by the school official.

- The DS-160 confirmation page with the barcode.

- The SEVIS I-901 payment receipt.

- The visa application fee payment receipt.

- Your appointment confirmation.

- One recent photo that meets the US requirements, in case it is needed.

- The school admission letter.

## Which academic documents should I bring?

Bring transcripts, certificates and the test scores used for admission, such as TOEFL, IELTS, SAT, GRE or GMAT, as they apply to your programme. They show you are a genuine student and support your answers about your course.

## How do I prove I can pay?

Show enough funds for at least the first year of study as listed on the I-20, and credible access to funds for the rest of the programme. Common evidence includes bank statements, a sponsor letter, proof of the sponsor’s employment and income, a scholarship or loan letter, and tax or salary documents. The key is clarity: the officer should be able to see who pays, how much, and where the money comes from.

## What shows ties to my home country?

There is no required paper for this, and you should never bring forged or unrelated documents. Genuine examples include family documents, evidence of property or a family business, and an offer or plan for work after your degree. Use them only to support what you tell the officer.

## Should I bring documents for F-2 dependants?

If your spouse or children apply, add the marriage certificate, birth certificates and each person’s dependant I-20. F-2 dependants do not pay the SEVIS fee, but each person pays their own visa application fee.

## Frequently asked questions

### Do I need original bank statements?

Bring recent statements, usually the last three to six months, from the account holders who are paying. Ask your bank for stamped copies if you want them available, and bring them to the interview even if you are not asked to show them.

### Can a scholarship letter replace bank statements?

A scholarship letter from the school or a funding body is strong evidence for the amount it covers. If it does not cover the whole first year, show how the rest will be paid.

### What if my sponsor is not a parent?

You can be sponsored by another relative or person, but be ready to explain the relationship and show their income and funds.
