# US Visa for Egyptians in the UAE: Apply in Cairo (2026) Source: https://visadoctor.ae/egyptian-citizens-us-visa-from-dubai/ Last updated: 2026-09-24 Publisher: Visa Doctor FZC, licensed visa documentation agency in Dubai (SPC Free Zone licence 4417571.01) Egyptian citizens need a visa to visit the United States, and Egyptians living in the UAE should currently plan to apply at the US Embassy in Cairo, because routine visa processing is not available in the UAE. Egypt is not on the Presidential Proclamation 10998 list, so Egyptian applicants are assessed under the normal rules. The reciprocity schedule allows a multiple-entry B1/B2 visa of up to 60 months, with no reciprocity fee on top of the $185 application fee. Last checked 24 September 2026. ## UAE or Cairo: where Egyptians can apply now The State Department asks nonimmigrant applicants to book in their country of residence or nationality. For an Egyptian living in Dubai or Abu Dhabi, that would normally mean a choice. On 24 September 2026, however, the US Embassy’s UAE visas page said “routine visa processing is not available in the United Arab Emirates at this time”, and a Mission notice of 1 March 2026 says routine US visa services in the UAE are suspended. The US Embassy in Cairo’s visas page carried no equivalent suspension notice when we checked the same day. What matters is that the officer can see a settled life to return to, so lead with your UAE employment, residence and family evidence. Plan your leave so you are in Egypt for the interview and for the passport return. ## Presidential Proclamation 10998: is Egypt on the list? No. Proclamation 10998, published in the Federal Register on 19 December 2025 (90 FR 59717) and in force since 1 January 2026, suspends or limits visa issuance for nationals of 39 countries and for Palestinian Authority travel documents. We checked the proclamation text and the State Department’s implementation notice on 24 September 2026, and Egypt is not named in either the full or partial suspension lists. Dual nationals should note that the proclamation follows the passport you apply on. ## What an Egyptian passport holder can receive Visa | Maximum validity | Entries | Reciprocity fee | B1, B2 or combined B1/B2 | 60 months | Multiple | None | C-1 transit | 60 months | Multiple | None | F-1 student | 60 months | Multiple | None | These are maximums set by the State Department’s reciprocity schedule for Egypt. The officer may issue a shorter or single-entry visa, and the length of each stay is decided by the US border officer on arrival. Egypt is not in the Visa Waiver Program, so ESTA is not an option. ## Step by step: applying from the UAE through Cairo - **Check the Cairo wait.** Use the State Department’s wait-time tool; it says the figure is only an estimate. - **Complete the DS-160.** Select Cairo as the interview location and give your UAE address, employer and residence details. - **Pay the $185 fee and book** through the appointment system linked from the US Embassy in Egypt’s visas page. - **Prepare your file** using the document list below, with Arabic documents translated into English. - **Attend the interview** in Cairo with your passport, DS-160 confirmation and supporting documents. - **After the interview.** If approved, the visa is printed in your passport. A 221(g) letter means more information or processing is needed; a 214(b) refusal means a new application and a new fee. ## Documents for Egyptian applicants living in the UAE - Egyptian passport valid for at least six months beyond the planned stay, plus any old passports with US or other visas. - DS-160 confirmation page and the fee receipt. - UAE residence visa and Emirates ID. - Salary certificate or employment letter stating role, start date, salary and approved leave. - Six months of UAE bank statements, with any large deposits explained. - For business owners, the trade licence and proof of ownership. - Evidence of family in the UAE, such as dependants’ residence visas and school enrolment. - Trip purpose documents: conference registration, invitation letter, or an outline itinerary. The State Department says an invitation letter or affidavit of support is not needed for a visitor visa, although it can help explain the trip. For Egyptian visitors living in the UAE, three matter most: - **214(b), ties not shown.** The officer is not persuaded the trip is temporary. A short UAE residence history, unexplained funds or a vague trip plan are the usual triggers. - **221(g), incomplete or under processing.** You have one year to provide what is asked before you must reapply and pay again. - **212(a)(6)(C)(i), misrepresentation.** Inconsistent answers or undisclosed refusals can lead to a permanent ineligibility, so keep the DS-160 and your answers consistent. Egypt is not a Visa Waiver Program country, so Egyptian citizens need a visa for tourism, business, study or a US connection. ### Can an Egyptian living in Dubai apply for a US visa in Dubai? Not for a routine appointment at the moment. On 24 September 2026 the US Embassy said routine visa processing is not available in the UAE. Egyptians can apply in Cairo, their country of nationality. ### Is Egypt affected by the US travel ban in 2026? No. Egypt is not listed in Presidential Proclamation 10998. Egyptian applicants face the normal eligibility rules. ### How long is a US tourist visa for Egyptians? Up to 60 months with multiple entries under the reciprocity schedule. The officer can issue less. ### Will applying in Cairo count against me as a UAE resident? Not by itself, because the rule allows your country of nationality. Bring clear UAE evidence of work, residence and family so the officer sees why you will return. ### Does a previous refusal stop me applying again?
