# Switzerland Visa from Dubai (2026): VFS Appointment, Fees and Documents

**UAE residents apply for a Switzerland Schengen visa at VFS Global, which runs Swiss visa application centres in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. You complete the visa application form online, book an appointment on the VFS Global Switzerland UAE website, then submit your documents and fingerprints in person. The Embassy of Switzerland in Abu Dhabi decides the application, and its published processing time is 15 calendar days.** The visa fee is EUR 90 for adults and EUR 45 for children aged 6 to 12, payable in the dirham equivalent, plus the VFS service fee. You can apply no earlier than 6 months and no later than 15 days before departure, and without a booked appointment neither VFS nor the Embassy will accept your application.

The same Embassy handles applications for Liechtenstein when it is the main destination. Everything on this page was checked on the Swiss Embassy and VFS Global pages on 25 September 2026.

## How to book a Switzerland visa appointment in the UAE, step by step

- **Confirm Switzerland (or Liechtenstein) is your main destination.** The Embassy states that applications with a different Schengen country as the main destination are not accepted.

- **Complete the visa application form online.** Since the new VFS contract started on 1 July 2025, the Embassy requires the online form to be completed before you schedule an appointment. The Embassy links to the [SEM visa application form](https://www.sem.admin.ch/sem/en/home/themen/einreise/visumantragsformular.html) of the State Secretariat for Migration.

- **Book on the [VFS Global Switzerland UAE booking page](https://visa.vfsglobal.com/are/en/che/book-an-appointment)** under the correct visa category, with details that match your passport exactly. VFS warns that errors can stop you submitting or entering the centre. If no slots show, VFS publishes a step-by-step guide to registering on its waitlist.

- **Attend in person** at the centre you booked with the documents on the Embassy checklist for your purpose (tourist, visit or business). If your fingerprints were collected in the last 59 months you do not need to give them again, but you must bring a copy of the earlier Schengen visa; if you are unsure, attend. Children under 12 do not give fingerprints.

- **Pay the visa fee and VFS service fee** at submission.

- **Collect the passport** from the same VFS office where you submitted it.

VFS Global does not offer separate appointments for people who buy Premium Lounge, Prime Time or any other optional service: the appointment comes from the same calendar. The Embassy also warns that it has no agreement with travel agencies or visa service providers for lodging applications, and that appointment bookings are free.

## No Switzerland appointments? What you can do

- **Join the VFS waitlist.** VFS Switzerland UAE publishes a step-by-step guide for registering on its waitlist when the calendar is full.

- **Apply early in the 6-month window,** especially for summer and the winter ski season, when Swiss demand peaks.

- **Check both centres** if you can travel to either, and keep your file ready for short-notice slots.

- **Urgent medical or humanitarian cases.** The Embassy runs a fast-track procedure for serious and urgent medical reasons, a serious accident or a death in the family: you contact the representation with the reason and your desired departure date, and it tells you how to apply. Otherwise, urgent processing is only done for high Swiss interests. More in [urgent Schengen visa appointments from Dubai](https://visadoctor.ae/country-post/urgent-schengen-visa/).

- **Cabin crew and airline crew** who need their passport back during processing should email the Embassy visa section before booking with VFS.

- **Family members of Swiss, EU or EFTA citizens** can submit directly at the Embassy visa section, by prior appointment only.

## Do UAE residents need a visa for Switzerland?

UAE citizens do not need a visa for short stays in the Schengen area. Most expatriate residents of the UAE do, depending on nationality, and the Embassy notes that holders of residence permits issued by certain countries are exempt. A Switzerland Schengen visa (types A and C) covers stays of up to 90 days in any 180-day period for tourism, visiting relatives or friends, short language courses, conferences and sporting or cultural events. Stays over 90 days need a national visa approved by the cantonal migration authority, lodged in person at the Embassy in Abu Dhabi.

Working in Switzerland on a Schengen visa is strictly prohibited, and no vaccination certificate is required.

## Switzerland visa documents checklist for UAE residents, by profile

The Embassy publishes separate checklists for business, visit and tourist applications (including household employees), last updated 14 April 2026. The Schengen embassies in the UAE use unified lists, with small differences. This is the standard file arranged by profile.

Your profile |
What to prepare |

Every applicant |
Passport issued in the last 10 years, valid at least 3 months after you leave the Schengen area, with 2 blank pages; the online visa application form, printed and signed; one recent ICAO standard photo; UAE residence visa and Emirates ID; travel medical insurance of at least EUR 30,000 valid for the whole Schengen area and the whole trip; flight reservation and hotel booking (or an invitation letter); personal bank statements for the period your checklist states, stamped by the bank; a cover letter explaining the trip. |

Employed |
Employer NOC or salary certificate on company letterhead stating your position, salary, start date and approved leave dates, signed with the signatory’s full name and position; recent payslips if your checklist asks for them; the bank statement should show the salary arriving each month. |

Business owner or self-employed |
UAE trade licence, proof that you own or partly own the company (for example the memorandum of association or partner list), company bank statements and your personal bank statements; a letter on company letterhead explaining the trip. |

Dependant spouse or child (sponsored) |
Sponsor’s NOC with a copy of the sponsor’s passport and UAE residence visa, the sponsor’s employment letter or trade licence, the sponsor’s bank statements, and the marriage or birth certificate. Children under 18 need consent from both parents, and a parent who is not travelling signs an authorisation. |

UAE residency |
Residence visa and Emirates ID valid for at least one month beyond your planned return from the Schengen area, or proof that you have applied to renew it. The Schengen missions in the UAE use a unified document list, so the Swiss checklist will look familiar if you have applied elsewhere. |

## Switzerland visa processing time and fees

The Embassy gives the processing time for Schengen applications (types A and C) as 15 calendar days, and says a decision is generally taken within 15 days but can be extended in individual cases. Some Schengen states must be consulted about applicants of certain nationalities, which can take up to 14 calendar days, and in certain cases the file goes to the authorities in Switzerland, when a decision can take up to 12 weeks. That is why the Embassy recommends applying early.

The fee is EUR 90 for adults and EUR 45 for children between 6 and 12, collected in the dirham equivalent at submission and not refunded if the application is withdrawn or refused. Visas for family members of EU and EFTA citizens are free.

## Common Switzerland visa refusal reasons and how to fix them

The grounds for refusing a Schengen visa are the same for every member state and are listed in Article 32 of the EU Visa Code. The refusal letter ticks the ground that applied and explains how to appeal. These are the ones we see most often in UAE files, and what prevents each one.

Refusal ground |
What usually causes it |
How to fix it before you apply |

The purpose and conditions of the trip were not justified |
Dates, bookings, leave letter and cover letter tell different stories, or the itinerary is vague. |
Make every document show the same dates and the same route, and explain the trip in a short cover letter. |

Not enough means of subsistence |
Low balance, or a large unexplained deposit just before applying. |
Show a steady balance built from salary or business income over several months, and explain any large transfer. |

Doubts about your intention to leave before the visa expires |
Weak ties to the UAE: short residence validity, no job letter, no approved leave. |
Include the employer letter with approved leave, a residence visa valid well beyond your return, and proof of family or property ties. |

Doubts about documents or statements |
A reservation that cannot be verified, a statement that does not match the salary letter. |
Submit genuine, checkable documents and keep figures consistent across every page. |

No adequate travel medical insurance |
Cover below EUR 30,000, not valid across the Schengen area, or shorter than the trip. |
Buy a policy that meets the EU minimum and covers every day of the stay. |

You have already used 90 days in the current 180-day period |
Previous trips add up to the limit. |
Count your days with our [90/180 calculator](https://visadoctor.ae/schengen-90-180-day-calculator/) before you choose dates. |

A Swiss refusal comes on a standard form with the reasons and the appeal process. Appeals must be lodged within 30 days of receiving the refusal, in writing, in German, French or Italian (or in English with a translation into one of them), to the Embassy or to the State Secretariat for Migration in Bern-Wabern. The SEM asks for an advance administrative fee of CHF 200, payable in dirhams, refunded only if the appeal succeeds, and the process can take up to 12 weeks.

Applying to the wrong country is a separate problem: you must apply to your main destination, the country where you spend the most nights, or the country you enter first if the nights are equal. See [the main destination rule](https://visadoctor.ae/schengen-main-destination-rule-dubai/). If you have already been refused, read [appeal or reapply after a Schengen refusal](https://visadoctor.ae/schengen-visa-refused-appeal-or-reapply-dubai/).

## How Visa Doctor helps with your Switzerland visa

- **Right country, right centre.** We confirm that Switzerland is genuinely your main destination and that you are booking the centre that covers the emirate on your residence visa.

- **Documents selected and reviewed.** We build your file against the current checklist for your profile, check every date and figure for consistency, and flag gaps before the appointment, not at the counter.

- **Forms completed.** We fill the online application form with you and prepare the printed copy you take to the centre.

- **Appointment booked.** We book the appointment in the official system and keep watching for earlier slots that fit your dates.

- **Cover letter written.** A short, specific letter that explains who you are, why you are travelling and why you will return.

- **Flight and hotel reservations** for the visa file, matched to your itinerary.

- **Briefing before the appointment,** so you know what to bring and what happens at the centre.

What we do not do: we do not sell appointments, we do not influence the decision, and we never promise approval. The consulate decides every application. Your first consultation is free, and we tell you honestly whether your travel date is realistic before you pay anything.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I applied for shengen visa in April 2026. Working with Barlas was a big pleasure and absence of any issues or problems. He prepared all documents and answered millions of my questions. He recommended me Swiss embassy instead of Italy showing that he has a deep understanding of the situation now. Got my visa in 2 weeks, unfortunately for 1 entry only but it’s something the company can’t influence. Fully recommend

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Bar, I honestly don’t even know where to start — this was such a different experience from anything I’ve had before with visa agencies.

From the very first moment, you were there. I called, you picked up immediately, and within minutes after our conversation you had already sent me all the available appointment slots and clearly explained which country would give me the best chances. Everything felt structured, transparent, and under control — no stress, no anxiety on my side at all.

You handled the entire process end-to-end: guided me through every document, helped me prepare everything properly, and even wrote incredibly strong cover letters that made a real difference. I truly felt that you did everything possible to maximize my chances of getting a one-year visa.

But beyond the professionalism, what really stood out is how easy it was to communicate with you. You’re positive, responsive, and genuinely supportive. You were always available, even outside working hours — which I really appreciate (and sorry for messaging you then 🙈).

I’ve worked with visa agencies many times before, and honestly, most of the experiences were frustrating — agents disappearing, not replying for days, leaving me stressed and unsure. This is the first time I’ve had such a smooth, reliable, and genuinely positive experience.

I know my profile and documents were strong, but I’m absolutely sure that without your help, my chances of getting a one-year Schengen visa — especially on my first application from the UAE — would have been much lower.

Thank you so much, Bar. I truly appreciate your work and your attitude. I will wholeheartedly recommend you to anyone who needs help with a visa.
